1104.0. "VR241 picture size" by IOSG::MULLEN () Thu Apr 04 1991 11:10

Hi All,

Having done a search I have found various references to using VR241's - but
has anyone ever found a way to get the monitor to use the whole screen for the
picture rather than just the bit in the middle?

Thanks for any help,

Sue

1104.1Wind up the width and height!UKCSSE::KEANEFri Apr 05 1991 11:0028

    Hi Sue,

    I used to have a VT240 on my ST, There was always a border around the
    picture rectangle, this was about 2inch across. I also thought the image
    was too small, so I attempted to make it larger. I first tried the
    crude way, by winding up the width and height controls on the monitor.
    Some people claim they can loose the border completely doing this, but
    I ran out of adjustment before I got rid of the border completely.

    One of the things that makes it worse is that the normal Vt240 scan
    area is restricted quite severely by intent, to keep the deflection
    angles low, so as to avoid spot defocusing and convegence problems at
    the edge of the screen. This means that there is already a border on
    the monitor, before the ST enforces its border as well.

    I next tried a super German idea, Hyperscan, this involves modifying
    the video circuits inside the ST and also running a program in the
    Auto folder on swich on. This increases the usable screen area by
    30-40%, (out of the border area), unfortunately it only works with well
    behaved GEM programs. It wont work with games for example!

    regards

    Pat K.

    If you wind up the X and Y deflection, then you will lose some
    definition at the edges, but normally it is not noticable.
1104.2Where are the controlsBAHTAT::REIDFri Apr 05 1991 14:087
    Pat, I have a VR240 and was under the impression that I couldn't wind
    up the Height and Width easily. Are there controls to achieve this and
    how are they accessed.

    Regards

    Yes but they are inside. Unless you are used to working on EHT
    equipment, and are aware of the dangers, I would recommend that you
    leave well alone. Have a look at the FS RED FICHE VR241A mini ref
    service guide. The Vertical Size and Horizontal size controls are
    located on the let hand side of the monitor (looking from the front).
    It may be neccessary to tweak the Vlin (on the rear) after changing
    size. You cannot adjust Hlin.

    Cheers

    Pat.
