1077.0. "Load/Unload Accessories with re-boot?" by RUTILE::BISHOP () Thu Feb 21 1991 14:09

    Hi there,

    I have a little question, that is hopefully not too much of a silly
    one!

    I have more than enough accessories, and sometimes i like to use them
    and sometimes i don't. "Fine" i hear you all say.

    I would like to load different ones at different times. I know there
    are programs to do this on a boot... but can you load ACC's without
    re-booting (cold/warm start) the Atari?

    Is there a program to do this? Is it on the Net?

    Many thanks in advance,

    				Lewis.

1077.1how about these?DECWIN::GILLIAMThu Feb 21 1991 16:355
    Yes, there's a commercial program called Multidesk by Codehead Software
    (Los Angeles) that allows you to load and unload accessories without
    rebooting.

    I think a PD program named Chameleon does something similar.

    However... neither of these work with an STe!. I'd love to have
    something that does though.

    Hmmm... I'd take the STE compatible or not! Wanna do a swap Richard ?
    ;-)

    maybe you missunderstand my meaning. I'm happy with the STe (No I don't
    want to swap) but I'd love to have an STe compatible accessory swapper.

    No, I didn't misunderstand you; I was just dreaming ;-)
1077.7Thanks...RUTILE::BISHOPFri Mar 01 1991 05:5916
    Don't we all dream! ;-) but back to the main question again!

    Thanks for the pointers. I have d/l CHMELEON.ARC and un-arced it. Now
    i have it up and ``running''. It's just what i wanted! Just one small
    question though. Not being a member of the German speaking community
    and not having a German-English dictionary, i was wondering if anyone
    who has it could give me some brief details. Is it possible to unload
    and then to reload another different accessory? If so, how? Which key
    sequence's to exit the current loaded accessory back to the desktop?
    Can you have more than 1 accessory selected thorugh CHAMELEON?

    Thanks in advance for all the answers,

    Regards,

    				Lewis.

    This is from memory, but here goes. Load CHAMELEON as a normal D.A.
    Click on it and you get a file selector. Choose the new D.A you wish to
    load and it will load and be activated at once. If you hold down the
    shift key while selecting the new D.A it will be load but not be
    immediately made active. To unload the selected D.A (indicated in the
    D.A drop down menu by its name preceded by an arrow (->) ) hold down
    the ALT and LEFT_SHIFT keys and then click on the D.A name. CHAMELEON
    will be reloaded and ready for new use. There are occasions when
    CHAMELEON is unable to unload a D.A it has loaded though this only
    happens in a minority of cases.

    Hope this helps,
