1021.0. "Super Breakout (SBREAK) is Totally RAD!" by CARWSH::MURRAY () Mon Nov 26 1990 17:50

Fellow Atarians!

I come in peace.

For anyone who has not yet tried it, the Super Breakout program, SBREAK,
recently posted by Ray(?) Wallace, is EXCELLENT! I cannot believe the
professional level of this program. I must admit that I haven't played any
Breakout-type games since I had an Atari 2600 many years ago but I don't
remember anything quite this good. My wife and 2 kids agree.

It even has an editor that lets you program your own levels and instructions
tell you how. You can also change the sounds!

I guess the biggest disadvantage is that it's mono-only but I can live with
that since I'm basically a mono-only kinda guy.

Kudos to author Mark Overmars! And thanks to Ray Wallace for posting it.

    Also being only black and white a game to play that doesn't rely on
    colour might be fun. Where can i get a copy?

You can find the ZOO file (if it hasn't strayed) at OLDTMR::$1$DUA8:[WALLACE.PUBLIC.ST]SBREAK.ZOO.

Happy breaking!

1021.3I may sound foolish, still...HLFS00::FLORISNever say never! Shout it !Fri Nov 30 1990 12:0513

     ...excuse me for sounding silly but.....

How can I 'de-arc' this .ZOO file, both VMSSWEEP and ARC.EXE complain
about it. Bet that there is a ZOO.EXE as well....

Where can I get that ?

thanks,

I agree with .0 - this game is great!!!! I've already played for hours on end,
getting up to level 60 by 'Continuing' after losing all of my lives and will
admit that I'm somewhat addicted.

This game, along with STETRIS, KRABAT2, and RISKY make owning a monochrome-only
system quite bearable.
1021.5Yes there is a ZOO.EXEYNOTME::WALLACEFri Nov 30 1990 14:275
there is also ZOO for the ST. ZOO.EXE can be copied from:

    Is there a mono emulator that makes playing Risky reasonable ? I've
    only come across poor and extremely slow mono emulators. Monoware just
    goes too slowly and (if I remember correctly) utilises only a part of
    the screen.

    Hi, I copied over and tried RISKY. Excellent game. Great
    implementation. Why are there not more games like this on the ST?

1021.13It does exist, really...MIDI::DANDan Gosselin, CUIP EngineeringThu Dec 13 1990 19:265
    It's there - are you sure you spelled it exactly? Maybe you have the
    wrong definition for MIDI. Try the following instead (and then update
    your network database):

    2113::A$:[DAN.PUBLIC]

1021.16I won !!!!HLFS00::FLORISThe run-a-way o^oTue Jan 29 1991 13:5316

	Finaly last night I finished SBREAK !!!!

The statistics showed that I had played for 24 hours (ouch that was a
shock). I had an average of 40,000 points (I believe), and worst of
all my mouse started to make funny noises and now and then hesitates
to move...

Did anyone else finish it ?

(My wife did: 30 hours of playing time ;-))

Where did you find the time to run 148 screens of SBREAK! I'm up about 5.

Of course, I'm trying to play it on the Stacy, and you can't see the
balls when they are moving.

After waking up around midnight, I play SBREAK for a while as a sort of
warm-up/wake-up before switching to WHACK for a middle of the night login
session. I do my best thinking between 1 and 3 AM. Network and CPU bandwidth
are good then too. 191&192 were tough. Best strategy there is to get enough
lives in 190 to skip them both!

re: "stacy" -How can you stand the frustration? No wonder you're only up to 5!

 	Nope. (there was one screen with invisible stones though)
