    There is a very interesting topic in the DNEAST::COMMUSIC notes file
    for all us MIDI musicians out there in ATARI-land concerning a s/w
    product called Band-In-A-Box. (see note 2448).
    
    Basically you give it a chord progression and it works out drum bits,
    piano, bass etc. You just jam along with it. It sounds great and I am
    sure I once saw it advertised in the UK in either an ATARI mag or else
    perhaps Sound On Sound (I can't really remember).
    
    Does anyone have it or know where I can get it ??????

According to my friends at the Bit Bucket, it's published by "PG Music".
Bit Bucket usually stocks it, they're out now, but expect it soon.  THey
are in Newton, MA (USA) (617) 964-3080, and they will ship overseas if
you pay the postage.  I'm sorry, but I didn't get the price.

You *should* be able to find it locally.

        Band In A Box is advertised in the U.K. in Sound On Sound Magazine,
    by Zone Distribution, 5 Abbeyville Road, London SW4, who are selling it
    at 45 pounds incl. Vat, or a package containing Band In A Box plus the
    two "Midi Fake Book" song file disks for 69 pounds, and also invite you
    to call for a leaflet on 081-766-6564. Credit card orders can also be
    placed on this number, and the advert also says to ask about their
    24 hour demo line.

    Well, I just got my copy of Band in a Box and it is great. I sent away
    for it together with the fakebooks and they sent me two versions of the
    program. version 2 will run on a 520, but version 3 requires a 1040 and
    has a number of enhancements. These include a total of 255 bars (64 on
    v2) and some additional styles to choose from. It really is a very
    worthwhile program and I do hope they continue to enhance it with new
    versions.
    
    Whilst I am still getting to grips with its ins and outs it provides
    such a great practice mechanism. Ie you quickly enter a chord sequence
    and without further fuss you have a full piece of music to jam to etc.
    
    The program has no copy protection and so I tried loading it onto my
    HD, but here I ran into a few problems. It copied okay, but when I
    tried to run it the screen switched to a black background making menu
    items etc invisible. This may be something to do with the fact that I
    had Neodesk running at the same time so I will just play around a bit
    more.
    
    Anyway, I highly recommend it for jamming practice and as a useful
    creative tool.
