953.0. "DRAGONFLIGHT the game" by HAN01::SCHOLZ (They called him 'The Brain') Tue Sep 04 1990 11:27

I would like to discuss a little bit the game DRAGONFLIGHT from Thalion.
To me its one of the best AD&D (role playing) games I have ever played
and I have played a lot of them (Bard's Tale, Dungeon Master, Ultima III,IV
and V, Questron, etc.).

Now I have some problems and surely some hints I would like to discuss
if someone else is playing or has played DRAGONFLIGHT.

953.1This one is the Best!SCAACT::BROWNLMon Oct 22 1990 12:4416
    This is definitely one to get!!!!!!!

    I got it yesterday. I read the instruction book and went to town...
    so to speak. It is MUCH better than any of the Ultima series. I think
    that THALION must be related to Lord British though, the control screen
    has ULTIMA code symbols on the left and right sides which once decoded
    give the names of the developers (Those sneaky devils....) and in one
    of the towns there is a statue "In Memory of Lord British...".

    I haven't played much, but already it's obvious that this will be my
    favorite. The animation and fight sequences are the Best I have ever
    seen!

    I will watch this note.

953.2SIEVAX::JAMIEUse me, Use me... Ooops! Excuse me!Mon Oct 22 1990 14:1616
    I've just got this game and while I think the graphics are good, the
    gameplay, to my mind, lacks somewhat...

    The battle screens are poor; for good battle screens, see Pool of
    Radiance etc.

    Interaction with characters in the game isn't very well implemented.
    It'd be nice to actually converse with them...

    I've had a lot of trouble finding some bloke in the Watchtower in the
    Dwarven city (Brindel-bun ???). I've visited every house (whether it
    looked like a watch-tower or not!) and had no luck... any ideas ?

    I suppose my gripes may be a bit biased since I'm sick and tired
    of all the disk accessing. With a 1 meg system this may not happen
    of course, but on a 1/2 meg system it makes the game really tedious...
953.3Potions and secret panels?SCAACT::BROWNLThu Nov 15 1990 18:5020

    Two questions;

    I have explored all sorts of dungeons, but I have never found a secret
    door or panel. Is there some trick, besides using the examine Icon?

    Also, how do I use potions? I sure have enough to become a fearsome
    healer, but alas I got no Info.

    Thanks Len,

    In answer to .-1

    Spoiler to follow:

	To find the guy in the tower in Brindel-bun go to the door on the
    front left portion of the castle wall (It looks like a tower). And
    Knock. I had to knock twice before he answered.
953.4Potions and wallsHAN01::SCHOLZThey called him 'The Brain'Mon Nov 19 1990 07:1629

    Len,

    I have finished Dragonflight about two month ago and I can tell you
    that even the final sceene is worth playing the whole game. It is
    great.

    Secret doors:
    There are no secret doors which appear when you search around (like
    in Ultima V), you only can pass the walls at certain places when you
    use th examine icon. I often found these special walls. I think they
    are part of every dungeon except No I, II and III, but I am not sure.

    Potions:
    For example, Bladus can drink potions by taking a potion from his (!!)
    inventory (then the mouse icon becomes a small potion) and clicking
    on the Bladus icon.
    When using the 'use' icon (I hope its called so in english, I have
    played it in german) a very nice mix option appears, but I have tried
    at lot of mixtures which nover seems to have any effect.
    I have never found any person or book to tell me anything about mixing
    potions.

    I finished the game without ever using the mix-option, but with drinking
    a lot potions as they are.

    Hope this helps,
    Joey

953.5Please have mercy. HELP!!!!SCAACT::BROWNLTue Feb 12 1991 14:4426
    Well, I have been playing for a couple of weeks without getting
    anywhere.

    I am stuck on a couple of things:

    	1) What do I do with the phial of mushrooms?

    	2) who tells me the name of the temple on Dorithinon ( i assume
    		that's the only way I am going to get over there.)

    	3) Where do I find the last piece of the map (The one right over
    		head of the dragon?) ANd is there a dungeon in that area?

    I did the dungeons out of order, and ended up in the room where the
    magic book had to be, without a way to defeat the gaurdians.
    I had a dragon ring on, so one of my characters wasn't killed, but this
    is getting dumb. I've spoken with everyone in all of the towns. I've
    showed them everything, and still I am lacking. I am about to re-enter
    the dungeon in the tail (The hidden one) in hopes of finding something
    there (Even though I don't have the etlam, and there are statues. I'm
    going to try and go down (or rather FALL down) again.

    Any Helpful hints would be appreciated.

953.6Someone please Spoil this one for me....SCAACT::BROWNLMon Jun 03 1991 19:1320
    Time for my quarterly request for help on this game.....

    How do I get into the southern dungeon on Dorithinon?

    I have the magic book of knowlege, but the supposed spell I have to
    open doors just won't help. If I have the open spell, and don't know it
    how do I use it........

    The note I got from the Queen said the entry work was MORTYK, but that
    won't work. I keep getting "not THAT easy adventurer...." So what do
    I do. I just want to get to the end of the game, now.

    OR do I have a bad game disk? Should MORTYK get me in, or the presence
    of the magic book?

    Someone Please HELP!!!!!!!

    Len

953.7Hope this helpsHAN01::SCHOLZThey called him 'The Brain'Tue Jun 25 1991 05:3214
    Len,

    as far as I remember, there is nothing special in entering this
    dungeon. One on Dorithanon is entered by using MASTYK and one
    by using MORTYK as the password.
    If you have the book with the list of the keywords, you should
    get into that dungeon.
    I have never found such a curious remark as 'It's not not easy,
    Adventurer' in the game. Perhaps its a special feature in the
    english version. I have finished the german one.

    Sorry, but that all I can tell you.
