On reply 5 of note 812 (812.5) it says that the ST can run X-windows. If there is such a product, and someone is using it, could they please let me know were I can get my hands on it. Also, does anyone know if the tektonix mode of Uniterm works with Decwindows. Thanks in advance, Memnon Emmanuel Thessaloniki,Greece.

Re: tektronics mode of Uniterm. I don't uinderstand the question you are asking. Uniterm's tektronics mode does a good job of emulating a tektronics terminal. I have used it with a couple of Unix programs which product graphics in tek format. Could you please explain the decwindows reference?

What I meant was, is it possible to run Decwindows on the Atari with Uniterm in Tektronics mode? Memnon.

No. There is a BIG difference between a "graphics terminal" like Tektronix, and the workstation capability of DECwindows. Real big. The question is sort of like asking "Can a bicycle be made to fly across the Atlantic ocean at supersonic speeds carying a payload of sixteen tons?"

I finished going through all my reference material and I can't find the information for X-windows. All I remember was that it was associated with an Ethernet adaptor that cost $800. The closest I could come to the information is the following from the April 1989 issue of Start - TAXI ethernet controller by FutureDOS R&D 1207-120 Torresdale Ave North York Ontario M2R 3N7 (416) 736-0321

Thanks for the time and trouble Bob. Memnon.

Atari Germany has taken over distribution of X/ST/windows, the X server, for the ST. They just stated it would be available in June 1990 in system special shops. Dipl.-Inform.
