784.0. "MFPS doesn't print text ?!" by HLFS00::FLORIS (Floris van den Dool, (838)2618 -- IS Holland) Tue Feb 27 1990 06:04

Trying to make some slides at home and print them on a postscript
printer at the office I tried to convert the EASYDRAW GEM-files to
postscript using MFPS.

At first I had a slide with some graphics and text (bold, outlined,
italic). Only the graphics would print (almost correct).

Then I removed the graphics from the slide, and tried again. Looking
into the postscript file I couldn't find any text. Again there were
bold, outline and italic lines. Since I've only the SWISS font, I was
only using one font. (The postscript file mentioned however TIMES and
HELVETICA.)

Did I miss something somewhere ??

I would be very glad to get it working, it would make live a lot
easyier... (using EASYdraw :-)

thanks for any help,

Floris

    Hi Floris,

I have used MFPS several times, but I have never tried BOLD OUTLINED
    ITALIC. as a combination.!!!

I think that if there isnt an equivalent POSTSCRIPT font then MFPS
CANNOT turn an EASYDRAW Bitmapped font into a non existing Postscript
one. (It doesnt convert easydraw fonts to graphics, only graphics to
graphics, if you see what I am trying to say!)

    Cheers

I see what you mean Pat, but I'm afraid you missunderstood me.

I wasn't trying to print whith outlined, bold and italics enabled at on
time; but I mixed them in one document. I seem to remember that
somewhere in this conference someone made a remark about MFPS not
being able to handle different fonts in one document. (I'am gone try
it with one font, let you know tommorow)

thanks for responding anyway !!

(I'll keep on trying: I've got to do a presentation in four weeks at a
DECUS meeting and I've got those great slides....at my ST....and
worse: I'm going on hollidays for two weeks next saturday :^o)

another strange thing: I tried to convert a demo that came with
EASYDRAW. It worked, but only after I'd removed a couple off
strange (VMS a-like) statements with '$Flags: '

I atached it below.

Furthermore the printing of plain EASYDRAW text didn't work either (no
specials this time straight text). Only the initializing part is there,
after '%%EndProlog' there are a few more lines but no text is
included.

I'm desparate.

I know Migraph has a postscript driver, it just doesn't handle all the
formats they wanted it to. As a result they haven't released it yet.
They had some higher priority projects so they shelved it when they lost
the person who was doing the work.

The reason I say all this is that if you were to call them, and ask them
nicely after explaining your situation, you might get them to release
a version to you. I have thought of trying to get the current version,
but haven't really had a need. All they can say is no, it is probably
worth a phone call.

p.s. It supposedly works for 300 dpi, but not 1200 dpi Linotypes.
