741.0. "TeX and Star LC24-10 printer-drivers" by BERN02::NIGL (Franc Nigl/DTN: 761-4764) Thu Jan 18 1990 08:53

Hi there,

    Small question concerning TeX... As I noticed several times, there
    are a lot of TeX-implementations at this moment. I decided to buy
    the implementation from TeXSYS (a German Firm). They really did
    a good job (you can mail me for details if you're interested). My
    question is about those printer-drivers delivered with all kind
    of implementations.

    Does Anybody of you know if there is a STAR LC24-10 printer-driver
    available, because till January, none of the implementations could
    me deliver a STAR LC24-10 driver. The Star gives some vertical pitch
    problems if it uses the NEC P6 driver (compatibility problems).
    At this moment it is not on the PRI-1 list of TeXsys.

    My configuration is following:
    MEGA ST4
    TOS 1.4
    MEGAFILE 30
    TeXSYS
    STAR LC24-10

    Thanks in advance

741.2NEC DVI-driver as sharewareCOL01::SELLWed Jan 31 1990 06:3033
I tried a german TeX version (transfered from PASCAL to C). I like the
speed and the organisation in subdirectories. A GEM-shell controls the
access. There are drivers for screen, 9/24 needle printers and
ATARI-laser. It has a DVI-driver for NEC (P6, P7) in low and high
resolution (180/360dpi). You get drivers and fonts arced on two
doublesided disks (about 2.5 MByte). A METAFONT program allows you to
create missing fonts.

The fonts are in GF to PK format. The directory structure is:
	o RES360.NEC
	   o MAG____0.900
	      	CMCSC10.PK
		CMR10.PK
	   o MAG____1.000
		CMCSC10.PK
		CMR10.PK
		 ...

The software is distributed like shareware. You pay 60 DM for the last
version and get 15 DM back for each copy you distribute to your
friends. You can get the driver from the author or from me, then I get
15 DM :-). I use the NL10 driver with my EPSON. The width seems to be
restricted here to 8.5 inch, maybe the NEC P7 driver can print wider.
I havn't used the NEC driver.

741.3So...I'm not the only one using TeX on the ST...BERN02::NIGLFranc Nigl/DTN: 761-4764Wed Jan 31 1990 11:2118
    Thanks for your response Reiner,

      I tried a couple of drivers already; like the Epson compatible
    and the NEC (360's). I don't have any problems with the Epsons but
    the quality is not good enough.

    The 360's (Btw: 360's ==> 360*360dpi) seem to be incompatible with
    my STAR. The incompatibility is in the Line Feed somewhere. The
    Star is able to handle this kind of line feed (1/218 I thought)
    but uses another [ESC] as the P6.

    Soon I'll receive another EPSON driver which I found last week; It is
    a driver with a 360*360 resolution. Maybe that's the one I need.
    If not than I'll try to code something.

741.4Tex -> VAX DOCUMENT font conversions neededCHEFS::GOSSADON'T PANIC!!..Drink more tea!Thu Feb 01 1990 08:539
Hi there,
	 Sorry to interupt the flow, but can someone post a list giving
the corispondance between the Tex fonts (i.e CMR10,CMTI10,CMSL10...) and
their nearest equivalents under Vax Document (for LN03 and PS). I also
wondered in there is any in-DEC documentation of the Tex Language available.

	Many Thanks

741.5Palatino and Century SchoolbookIJSAPL::KLERKT.T.F.N. - Ta Ta For Now!Sat Feb 17 1990 18:0812
    The DOCUMENT fonts are all properly scaled pixel fonts (.TFM/.NFT
    files) - no enlargements.

    They use Compugraphic's Palatino and Triumphate fonts for roman and
    sans serif on LN03, and use Centry Schoolbook and Helvetia for the
    PostScript equivalents.

    Only the math fonts are taken from the PD TeX world.
