649.0. "A good store in Boston area" by ANNECY::MERCIER () Mon Oct 30 1989 06:12

I would like to take the opportunity of a travel in USA next week to buy
some Atari 's stuff.
Where is the best place in Boston area to buy
	* SCSI adapter
	* SCSI to ST506 convertor board
	* utilities and games

BTW, is there any trouble to use these US board in France (power supply,
frequency ...).

The *best* place to buy the SCSI host adaptor or the SCSI to ST506
convertor is MAIL ORDER. My experience has been that the Boston area
stores do not stock host adaptors or Adaptek 4000's. It took me a
couple of weeks to get an ICD host adaptor from the Bit Bucket in
Sudbury (same as the one in Newton). I don't know of a local source
for the Adaptek 4000 or equivalent. I was once able to get three of
them from a surplus company in California.

If you were going to San Francisco, I think you would be able to find
these components more easily.

Internationalization should be no problem. These boards run on +5v and
+12v DC, so all you need to do is to obtain a power supply that can
provide these voltages, same as those needed by the hard drive, from
your local mains.

Which week will you be here? There's a user's group meeting tomorrow
in Acton, which is one town away from Maynard (MLO), and another one on
Nov 15th in Nashua (near ZKO). I'm sure that you would be a welcome
tourist at either one! There will be a lot of talk about building hard
disk drives on the 15th (if Don doesn't mind).

    Hi,

Just in the line of this note :

I will be in Nashua from the 19-27 January and would like to use this
opprtunity to get some cheaper SW over here. Can you point me to any
shops in the Boston or Nashua area ?

The last time I was there (2 years ago) I visited the White Mountain
Computers store. Is it still there or are there already new ones in the
    neighbourhood ?

I'm looking for games, utilities (Like G+plus DESKMANAGER, MULTIDESK)
and PCDITTO 2 which doesn't seem to be available in Europe.

    Thanks for any help,

    Cor

That's about the only ST store left in the Nashua area. They have very
little, if any, ST hardware and do not advertise it at all. But they do
have an excellent rack of ST software, including many popular European
titles (I've found software there I couldn't locate anywhere else).

There is also an ST shop in Salem, NH, which is about 25 minutes from
Nashua, but I've never been there.

Computer Bug in Hadley is pro-active on Atari, and generally has a lot
of stuff. It's a long drive from Nashua, but not so long if you are
coming from Europe, and probabally worth it. 113 Russel Street.
Hadley, MA phone (413) 584-7722. The owner's name is Mike Cohan. His
father used to be my supervisor at DEC, but he doesn't work here any more.

Bit Bucket in Sudbury MA is very near MLO (The Mill), and if you were
thinking about visiting the Digital corporate headquarters and seeing
the clock tower and all that, it would be worth the extra 10 minutes to
get to the Bit Bucket a well. This is a branch store to their main
store in Newton (a Boston suburb). I don't have numbers for their main
store, but the Sudbury store is at 621 Boston Post Road, Sudbury MA
phone (508) 443-9731. The manager's name is Joe Alieo. They carry
clones and Amiga as well as Atari, but Joe is very pro-Atari.

If you get a chance to talk to Joe or Mike, let them know I sent you.

Do you know the name of the store? I just picked up an Atari this past weekend
(for MIDI applications), and I'm looking for a good software dealer in either
Salem (NH) or Manchester (NH).

thanx,

Go to Nashua via Rt. 3. Get off Rt. 3 at exit 8 (you can only
go west on exit 8, so you can't mess up!)

Exit 8 puts you onto a new highway access road. Go through 2
traffic lights, staying to the right. At the third light
you'll be intersecting Amherst St. (101A), turn right and
stay in the rightmost lane. Don't pull out into the
main traffic flow. White Mountain Computer is the second
building on your right, the driveway entrance comes up
    fast so watch carefully.
