552.0. "GFA BASIC V2 for three quid" by MOVIES::FORSTER () Mon Jul 31 1989 15:35

    In case anyone's interested, the latest copy of the UK magazine ST FORMAT
    has a fully-working copy of GFA BASIC V2 on it's enclosed disk (plus very
    basic reference manual). I can't see any copyright notices on the disk or
    in the magazine so I wonder If GFA have put it in the public domain ?
    Anyway, for 2.95 pounds it amounts to very much the same thing.

552.1It's easily available in U.S., too!CADSYS::DALTONCereal Killer.Mon Jul 31 1989 16:1814

    GFA V2 was given away on STart's disk magazine (for around $12-$14)
    here in the U.S., I know Antic (who owns STart) are the U.S. distributers
    for GFA now, which is probably why they were able to offer it. They
    sell the manual seperately for $10.

    This sort of thing goes a long way toward establishing GFA as the
    standard BASIC for the ST, I think its great considering how bad ST
    BASIC is... GFA is probably behind this stuff so they can get people
    hooked on V2 and sell 'em V3 when they start hungering for more...
    Also it increases the sales of their GFA BASIC add on utilities,
    Companion, Vector, etc, I'll bet.

552.2Tough time justifying spending the $$$DWEEZL::HEARNTime will tell...Mon Apr 29 1991 12:4217

    	Rather than start a new note...

    	I've got (apparently) GFA-Basic 2.0 (Run-Only I'm assuming) since
    	I can't seem to find a way to "compile" any code. I bought my ST
    	used and this came with it.

    	Is the best way to get a v2.0 compiler thru STart? or is v3.x really
    	worth ~$125.00 for very little coding?

    	I'm wanting to re-compile 1 piece of code (John Logajan's UUCICO.LST)
    	so it seems ridiculous to spend $$$ for v3.x Anybody want to re-
    	compile it for me?  :^)

    						Thoughts appreciated,

552.3GFA not avail thru StartOPS5::HUTCHINSONHutchMon Apr 29 1991 13:1730
Re .2

GFA Products are no longer available through Antic Publishing (Start). That
deal went sour some time ago.

The good news is that GFA has just opened up their own distribution house here
in the U.S.:
	GFA Software Technologies
	27 Congress Street
	Salem, MA  01970

	Tel: (508) 744-0201
	FAX: (508) 744-8041

You can order any and all GFA products direct through them or any number of
discount mail order houses (JOPPPA @ (800)876-6040 sells the GFA BASIC 3.5e
interpretor AND compiler package for $88.00). GFA is also offering their new
IBM version of GFA BASIC for 50% off to current GFA users, if interested.

If you use v2.0 at all, you should *definitely* upgrade to v3.5e. It is WELL
worth the price and is a tremendous improvement in the language. It comes with
more than 300 NEW commands, improved editor, a decent manual, and the compiler
plus it is a LOT faster! I'm sold on it.

On the other hand, if you just want your code compiled, I can do that for you.
You'll have to send me a floppy with the *.LST code on it (I have no way to
download ST files). I'm in Marlboro, MA so send e-mail if I can help.

    I have the V2 compiler and can down/upload. Just point me to the code
    somewhere on the net.

552.5Yet another offer!BHAJEE::SURAUFMon Apr 29 1991 17:298
    RE: .0
    I can compile it with Version 3.5.
    If you like, then send the Code (*.LST) to my account:

    	Buzz & Rolf,

    		Thank you both for the offer - I've sent a disk to
    	Hutch and he's going to do it for me. I do appreciate your
    	offers though.

    	Folks like the three of you really make computing enjoyable!

    						Tnx agn,

552.7GFA V2.0 Manual?KERNEL::BARTLEYTue Apr 06 1993 14:2410
    Hi,

    My ten-year old son is taking an interest in BASIC. I have V2.0 of GFA
    Basic, which is plenty adequate, but I don't have a manual and it's not
    in print any longer. Does anyone have a manual I can buy, beg, borrow
    or photocopy?

    Thanks,
