352.0. "WEFAX for the ST ?" by JIBARO::SANTIAGO (Certified Gremlin Instructor) Thu Dec 29 1988 10:31

    Saludos,

I am looking for a WEFAX (weather fax) program for my ST.
Do anyone knows about the availability of such for the ST ?
also, if there is, how about its performance (poor, good, high
    	resolution) ?

Any info. will be greatly appreciated.

A program and an interface to decode the signals was in
Antic about 2 years ago. They included some samples of
its output and it looked interesting. The pictures did
comtain a large amount of noise though.

In the latest issue of "ELEKTOR" (U.K.) there is a interface and
you send a blank formatted disk for the software. It's written in
fast basic. A PC board is available. I'll try it when I have time
but I think that won't be for a while.
What frequencies are used for FAX and WEFAX? I have a Amateur Bands
only setup so there may be more building!!!

I finally built the Elektor WEFAX decoder and with the software
available from Elektor received some WEFAX last night on about 140
Khz. It wasn't bad but I had a very poor aerial. It was a chart
of the North Atlantic showing N. Europe and Greenland with all its
isobars etc. It's very interesting and I look forward to getting
    a better receiving aerial.
      Now for the satellites....

Hi,

I've been thinking of doing this same project but am not sure
about the radio received needs......at one point MAPLIN had a complete
kit (also works with Atari I think) including satellite receiver. Total
cost was about 100 pounds I think (receiver, interface and software).

Is the Elector software copyrighted or is their service charge
just for copying onto your blank disk?

	Regards,
	Nigel
