295.0. "Disk Drive" by OPG::CHRIS (Capacity! What Capacity ?) Fri Nov 11 1988 10:49

    Can anyone help ?

    	I have an ATARI 520 STFM which I bought a year ago.
    	The disk drive keeps making a screaming noise when the
    	heads are near the centre of disk. Can anyone give me
    	a cure.

    	Regards,

    	Chris

295.1Use better disksPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeff LomickaFri Nov 11 1988 13:572
My system does that on cheap disks, such as "Verbatim", which is
one of the worst offenders.
295.2More on noisy disk drivesSMAC10::NEALESteve Neale @ BSO (UK)Mon Apr 24 1989 14:348
On the subject of noise, when selected, my SF354 whirs loudly with or without
a disk in it. Sound like bearings to me. My other SF354 doesnt whir at all.
I know oil is probably not a nice thing to use but has anyone shut up a noisy
motor? I've been twitchy about disks ever since I caught an operator where I
used to work straightening an RP02 platter with pliers. Got the data off
though. The condition of the drives after was not reported.

    	I have a single sided internal drive and external and a double
    	sided external drive. I thought if I just daisy chained the
    	two external drives when I booted drive C would appear.

    	Is this not the case, or do I have to do something special?

295.4Only two, supported.KERNEL::ADAMSBrian Adams CSC-Viables '833-3026Sun Dec 04 1994 18:4213

    	Lee,

    	The WD1772 Floppy Disk Controller only supports two disk drives,
    	the Internal Drive and one External Drive (Drives 0 & 1)

    	Although there are two drive select lines on the floppy disk port
    	DIN 14S connector, they are 1 per drive, rather than a binary
    	selection.
