291.0. "VMS to TOS connection" by BRSIS0::LESER () Thu Nov 10 1988 07:24

     Hi,

    One of me prospect use ATARIST's as Station for the moment and is
    willing to buy a VAX.

    Does anyone know if :

    - some soft other than KERMIT exist to connect ATARI's on VAX,
      any DECnet support??

    - is it possible to connect ATARI's on ETHERNET

    - any other way to get TOS and VMS talking together

    Thanks for you answers

    hi,

    See topic 275 et al.

    There is no decnet support.

    There is no Ethernet support

    You can Kermit or X/Y modem, files across, but the only thing thats
    compatible is ASCI files.

    There is no relationship between TOS and VMS, although Tos programs
    and resources can be filed on a VMS disk.

    Sorry !!

    Pat K.

291.2ethernet is availableKBOMFG::HEIDENTue Nov 15 1988 09:025
    There is a Ethernet controller board available for the ST.
    Some months ago this item was discussed on USENET.
    Unfortunately I don't have any address right now, but I know
    somebody who knows somebody ...

291.3Ethernet, I hope so!RDGENG::KEANETue Nov 15 1988 10:4113
    hi ,

    Re 291.2, I am willing to stand corrected on the Ethernet Connection
    I saw the Usenet articles, I must have wrongly remembered, I thought
    the device was in design stage, not in hardware! If you or anyone
    has any further info please post it, I would like to be able to
    net my ST to our LAN and fast file transfer to it!!!!!! Our network
    security watchdogs would go ape !!
    P.s. who is going to write DECNET-TOS?
    Cheers

    Pat K.

291.4I saw it workingKBOMFG::HEIDENTue Nov 15 1988 18:083
    I have seen the Ethernet adapter about 2 years ago. It was working,
    however with a couple of anyoing bugs. I'll ask the person who knows
    the person ... I'll post the answer as soon as I get it.

    Yes we just received the first 8 prototype boards of our TAXI controller
board. TAXI stands for The Atari eXtended Interface. The TAXI board
will plug into the Mega's expansion slot, or be driven through the
Atari ACSI interface. Some of the features are:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 Full Ethernet interface (thin is builtin, thick requires a transceiver
  box)
1 Full (true) SCSI interface independent of the Atari ACSI interface.
8 Full duplex serial lines (RS232-C compatible)
2 Centronics/parallel printer interface
1 MC68000 processor (when used as standalone configuration).
128K dual ported DRAM + 64/128K EPROM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This board can be incrementally configured as an Ethernet controller,
2-8 channels serial cross point switch; with or without parallel or
SCSI interface.
