235.0. "Ferguson MC01 TV monitor" by MINDER::GILBERT (North UK Region Appl'n Centre @MCO) Mon Sep 19 1988 14:09

    I am using a Ferguson MC01 TV/monitor with my 520STFM. I made a
    signal cable up myself to use the RGB signals. After putting 1K
    ohm resistors in series with each of the R, G, and B wires to stop
    the 'white-out' effect, the results are very good - better than yer
    average Amstrad 1512 (admittedly not difficult to beat).

    Fine. Except...

    There's a buzz on the sound. Not very loud, but just enough to be
    unacceptable. It REDUCES in volume if you INCREASE the volume of
    the MC01!

    The cable is a 6-core screened, with the ground pin of both the
    ST(pin 13) and MC01(pin 1) plugs connected to the screen.

    Any ideas, please?

235.1Video on Sound ???SEDOAS::WATTIt's Life Jim but not as we know itMon Sep 19 1988 15:026

    Run a separate wire from the sound output to the input and see if
    you still get it. I made my own cable as well but it has seperate
    shielding for the video wires and the sound.

    Regards Peter.

    Does the sound change with differant pictures on the screen ? If
    it does then it is Video on sound, other than that it could be produced
    in the monitor itself or even by the Atari. I use the same monitor
    and don't have any problems.

235.4Still investigating...MINDER::GILBERTNorth UK Region Appl'n Centre @MCOWed Sep 21 1988 16:0012
    Don't recall any change with picture content, but I do know that there is
    also a buzz when I connect my Acorn Beeb.

    Another factor which leads me to suspect the MC01 internal wiring.

    Seems OK when using RF (aerial) input, - except the picture quality
    of course.

    The hunt continues...
