179.0. "OLD_ATARIST Incomplete" by STOPIT::BADMAN (Well Crucial guy! Younartmean?) Tue Aug 02 1988 12:55

Whilst trying to find an article in OLD_ATARIST, I noticed that
    the old conference and the list of topics in note 2 do not correspond;
the list of topics includes about another 50 notes. The last note
in OLD_ATARIST was entered on 1-FEB and this conference was created
on the 4-APR. Does anyone know where the missing notes have gone?

    		Thanks,

    				Jamie.

179.1Have you ever heard of the bit bucket?MILRAT::WALLACETue Aug 02 1988 17:148
To try to keep a long story short... When this notes file originaly
left SPHINX it went to a system outside of the USA (don't recall the
system name) when it was on that system the notes file became
corrupted. So the old file we have that is intact and won't hang notes
is from SPHINX archives/backups and is indeed missing a segment of
    time.

179.2Which way did it go?SMURF::COUTUHe who will not risk, cannot win.Tue Nov 23 1993 15:2010
Is the OLD_ATARIST file around anywhere? I tried to lookup some
info in this file and found nothing. I suspect that what I'm looking
for is probably in the old file since it pertains to one of the
    original ST games (Sundog).

Any pointers? Or any tips on Sundog?

    Thanks,

    Dan

What did you want to know about Sundog. Both me and my wife have made
it through that game a few times now...it's been a few years but I
think I still remember most of it.

I wanted to know of any and all tips on playing I could find. I seem
to be losing points trying to trade enough goods to afford fuel and
parts for my ship. I seem to have not hit on the best way to make
big profits. I've just suspected that I might make more money trading
repair parts and black market items than I can make by trading in the
exchanges. It also seems that pirates will attack only if I have
    cargo. True?

Is there any way to enhance your ship's capabilities? Better shields,
guns, engines, etc.? Is there any way to land on a planet in a city
that isn't a starport? There seems to be a hint about better scanners
existing and I suspect having those might allow landing anywhere but I
can't find these better scanners anywhere.

If I land on a planet whose cities are separated by water then I can't
get the cargo transport to those cities. How do I pick up cryogens
    from those warehouses?

Any tips on strategy would also be helpful. Learning the hard way
    takes a lot of time...

    Thanks,

    Dan

Let me see if I can answer all your questions in order. As for
trading, we found that it was best to trade energy pods and the really
powerful guns. I'll have to wait til I get home to figure out the best
planets to trade between but a hint for you...we did ALL our trading in
the restaurants on the different planets. Just go up to a bartender and
tell him what you want to sell (control pods are a good bet) and then
go sit at a table and wait for someone to show up...then dicker with
    them.
As for fancy stuff for your ship, most of it will be found in the
settlement you're providing cryogens for...as you progress through the
levels (10 levels I think...) the city gets bigger and you can buy
better and better stuff for your ship. It's true that pirates only
attack when you have cargo but later in the game you can minimize the
effects they have on you (as long as you have lot's of fuel).
I'll send an addendum to this as soon as I pull out the game and
remember the names of the different planets, etc.

                               .....Chris.....

P.S. Since this notes file is not really for Sundog related stuff it
may be a good idea to start one specifically for this game. :)
