166.0. "Used Mouse wanted!" by KBOMFG::HAUCK () Wed Jul 20 1988 05:12

    Hi Freaks,

    Yesterday I bought a AtariST. It was a used computer and there was
    no mouse into.
    And so I hope that anyone can help me:
    I am searching a used mouse for my ST. Because I'm a German Freak
    it would be easyer if a German user can help me.

    My mail adress is KBOMFG::HAUCK.

    Bye,

    Jochen.

166.1Any "quadrature" mouse will workPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeff LomickaWed Jul 20 1988 16:2114
You may use almost any QUADRATURE-type mouse with the Atari ST by
fabricating an appropriate connector.

Note that mice come in two major types. The "SERIAL" mouse (Logitech
C7, the DEC "Hockey-puck" type & friends) has a microprocessor inside,
and is not usable on the Atari without significant hardware hacking
inside the mouse. These mice use serial RS232 communciation and a
high-level procotol.

The QUADRATURE mouse, such as the Atari mouse, the old DEC mouse (VS100,
early VSII), and many others, is a simple device with X and Y sensors
that has two "quadrature encoded" contol wires for each axis. Most
cheap mice are quadrature.
