155.0. "TURBODOS.PRG" by CIMBAD::POWERS (I Dream Of Wires - G. Numan) Tue Jul 05 1988 23:14

         I have uploaded TURBODOS.PRG, This program should be placed
    in your auto folder. It replaces the file system of gemdos. It
    makes your hard disk act more like a hard disk, instead of a floppy.
    There was some concern as to some possible danger involved in using
    this program, I believe I have posted a few notes with regard to
    this. This program was written by Atari France, and has been
    announced on usenet, by Roy J Good of Atari USA, that this program
    is in the public domain. I have been using this program, for several
    months now, and had no problems with it, except once and a while
    while booting, it sometimes takes two attempts. The program can
    be found in CIMBAD::DISK$USER:[POWERS.ATARIST.PUBLIC]TURBODOS.PRG.
    Note that it takes about 100K of memory or so, so 520 users might
    not want to install it if they only have 512K.

155.1TUrbodos and C'T HDBIOS?RDGENG::KEANEWed Jul 06 1988 12:3629

    Hello,

    	RE .0, Turbodos,

    Has anyone any information on what TUrbodos does to the BIOS ?,

    The reason I am asking is that already I am becoming disenchanted
    with my hard disk performance. As I load it up with more files,
    the performance appears to degrade exponentially!. I have a copy
    of turbodos, what I got from the USENET, so I thought, bang it in
    the old AUTO folder and away we go!!. Unfortunately, I have got
    the C'T Hard disk bios in there as well, which works well on its
    own. When I switch on with turbodos in the folder, first the HDbios
    loads, announces itself all ok, then loads turbodos and crashes,
    I cant see how many bombs, they flash too quickly!, then loads HDBios
    etc etc etc. Turbodos, will load ok if its in the auto on its own,
    buts thats not what I want. I should think that the system variables
    used by the C'T BIOS would also be popular with Turbos, any opinions??

    Has anyone out there got TURBODOS to work with the C'T software
    please ???? If so, HOW?

    Cheers

    Pat K.

155.2Try Reorg, comes with DLIINEXUS::MORGANHuman Reality Engineering, Inc.Sun Jul 10 1988 00:288
    The performance of my 204 has not degraded, even with about 500
    programs on it. Try the Reorg program that comes with DLII. It works
    for me with a 1040, Descart, and folderxxx.

    I've been using Reorg for about a year now with no problems. It
    is kinda' spooky to see it relocate 2 or 3 thousand clusters though...

    I recommend DLII and Reorg. They are chained together..
155.3Is DLII PD?RADINA::PASCIUTAAdrian (RDGENG::) PasciutaMon Jul 11 1988 10:035
I've seen many references to the DLII program. Is it PD? I've
not seen it anywhere. If anyone on the Enet has it, could they
tell us?

155.4How great, compared to fatspeed?PANGLS::BAILEYTue Jul 12 1988 19:388
    Can anybody comment on the speed-up of TurboDOS vs FATSPEED? 100K
    seems like a stiff price to pay.

    Further, can anybody provide me with a copy of FATSPEED.PRG? I
    tried to get one from the Lakesys archive, but I can't seem to get
    anything but an index.

    For a short time you can copy DLII.ARC from

155.6FOLDRXXX obsolete?SUOSW2::KAISERme again...Thu Aug 18 1988 05:479
I'm working with Turbodos on my Mega 2 for about two months now.
To correct the "40 folder bug" ("100 folder bug" with the new blitter ROMs)
I use FOLDRXXX.PRG. My question is: Do I need FOLDRXXX.PRG if I have Turbodos?
I've heard that Turbodos corrects this bug. Is this right? I could really need
the extra memory, VIP professional eats up a lot of it.

Thanks
-Hans

155.7Better use FOLDERXXX anyway !!!BRSDVP::GEBOERSGrin and ignore it.Mon Aug 22 1988 11:2915

    Although Atari claims in the accompanying letter that you don't need
    FOLDRXXX.PRG anymore, I had still problems with this bug. After using
    FOLDR200, all problems with Turbodos disappeared. (It screwed the D:
    partition of my hard disk, luckily I'm paranoid abouth this and had a
    decent backup !)
