124.0. "Lotus look-alikes?" by BOLT::WARE (Ralph Ware @ MSD/AD) Tue Jun 14 1988 13:12

    My wife wants to learn Lotus 1-2-3. Is there something *similar*
    for the ST or should I consider buying the real thing and one of
    the emulators ( PC or MAC )?

    I have VIP propfessional on my 1040ST. It is LOTUS compatible and
    can use LOTUS data files. The commands are the same.

    Can VIP work on a 520 ST. Is there enough memory.

    I've looked back through the old notes for comments on VIP and while
    they were generally favorable someone did mention that it would
    be better with a meg. An add in 'START' for version 1.2 ( gem )
    says that it will work with a 520ST however. ( mono or color ).

    I run it on a 520 with no probs. Admittedly, I don't use VERY large
    spreadsheets.

    I have used V.I.P on an Amiga, and I've never found a Lotus .wks
    file that it wouldn't run. I downloaded plenty of templates from
    MS-Dos BBS's.  V.I.P seems a perfect clone.

    VIP Proffesional will work with a 520, but it does run out of memory
    very quickly.

    I used 123 in DEC and VIP is so close to it that if 123 were written
    by DEC, we would sue their backsides off.
