33.0. "Uniterm" by BOLT::MINOW (Je suis marxiste, tendance Groucho) Mon Apr 11 1988 23:27

A new version of Uniterm was just released, in 18 (!) installments.
If you're interested, the files are in
	BOLT::USER1:[MINOW.PERSONAL.ATARI.NET.UNITERM]*.*

I haven't tried downloading and building it.

33.1Uniterm ARC files availableMAST::WALLACETue Apr 12 1988 03:0720
    I've taken the 18 UUE files from Martin's directory and generated
    the 9 ARC files that they represented. The 9 ARC files can be copied
    from:	LIBRTY::USR:[WALLACE.PUBLIC.ST.UNITERM]*.*

    The file CONTENTS.LIS (also in the same directory) I created which
    lists the contents of each ARC file and what the various files are.
    This may be usefull as you may not want/need to download all the ARC
    files.

    The manual is in LaTeX form again. Simon has provided a plain ASCII
    text version of the manual BUT it is a subset of the LaTeX versoin
    and in Simon's words "is a horrible version" (of the manual).

    So can we get another volunteer to convert the LaTeX files to ascii
    and Postscript? Please, pretty Please?

    As with Martin, I have not downloaded this and run it yet, but all
    of the files unARC ok.

    I got the files off USENET, downloaded and unarc'd them last night.
    It runs fine, the only visual change that I noticed was the help
    screen, it's completly different and much more readable.

33.3It works, but...BOLT::MINOWJe suis marxiste, tendance GrouchoTue Apr 12 1988 12:567
I also downloaded it. I've reorganized the file names for easier
de-arcing (if you need this).

Warning, if you use Uniterm to connect to a VMS system with 8-bit
controls enabled, your Atari will crash.

33.4.SET convert program doesn't workMAST::WALLACETue Apr 12 1988 15:326
    I couldn't get 20aTO20c.TOS to work, other than that it works good.

    I can access NOTES again! The last version (V2.0b 006) would crash
    the ST when I tried to run NOTES.

Funny, notes is what crashed for me. Did you try it with 8-bits enabled?

33.67 and 8 bit, whats the diffMAST::WALLACETue Apr 12 1988 21:2212
    RS232 is set for 8 bits no parity but the terminal setting is for
    VT220 with 7 bits.

    I used the same settings for V2.0b (which crashes in notes) as I
    am for V2.0c (which works fine). I guess I'll try 8 bits and see
    what happens.

    Is there a reason why I would want to set it for 8 bits as apposed
    to 7 bits? I assume since I have the RS232 parametrs set for 8
    bits that KERMIT transfers will be 8 bits, is this true?

    Hi, Ray.

    I use UNITERM V2.0c with:

    RS232        Databits: 8

    Terminal1    USE       8 bits
                 Terminal  VT200

    on my 1040 since more than 2 weeks now without problems (Notes,
    ALL-IN-1, SEDT/VMS,...). I've saved these settings to UNITERM.SET.

    As far as I understand it: VT200 with 8 bit controls can interpret
    the CSI Escape Sequence Leadin character (155(10)). VT200 with 7
    bit control uses the ESC [ sequence as leadin charcters for Escape
    Sequences. (Am I right with this?)

33.8UG for 2.0CVINO::BHAMILTONBuzz HamiltonTue Apr 19 1988 19:085
    I have run the 2.0C UNITERM User's Guide through latex.

    The output file, ready for printing on LN03 or LPS40 is available
    as VINO::PORT:[BHAMILTON.PUBLIC]UG.LN3.

33.98 bits works for me toMAST::WALLACEThu Apr 21 1988 02:018
    Well I've tried this version of Uniterm (V2.0c 008) with 8 bits
    enabled for both the terminal and rs232 characteristics and it works
    (I'm using it now).

    Since NOTES is crashing Uniterm for Martin there must still be some
    combination that has problems.

33.10Problem with uploadingMILRAT::WALLACEWed May 04 1988 02:4716
    I've noticed a problem with UNITERM (V2.0c 010) doing uploads from
    the ST to the VAX using kermit.

    If you try to do an upload before doing a download the upload will
    fail, the VAX Kermit keeps sending NAKs. Once I do a download I
    can then do as many (successfull) uploads I want.

    It seems to be a problem with Uniterm and not with the Vax's kermit
    since I can exit and re-run Vax Kermit with no ill affect on the
    next upload. But if I exit Uniterm and re-run it I then have to
    download some file before I can (successfully) upload anything.

    Anybody else seen this problem? Maybe I have something set wrong
    in uniterm.

    	Ray
33.11BOEHM::REILLYMichael ReillyMon Jun 06 1988 16:3413
Ray,

Have you tried with the latest version of Uniterm? I use xmodem which works
without problems so can't say if the bug is fixed in newer versions or not.

Does the VMS kermit allow logging of packets? If so, enable it and see what
it is complaining about.

A quick guess would be that for some reason Uniterm kermit doesn't do the
initial transaction(s) correctly. However once things are setup (due to the
download) the parameters stay setup correctly.

33.12VAX Kermit does loggingMILRAT::WALLACEMon Jun 06 1988 16:4810
    I'm not sure I tried this in V2.0c 014 since I got used to first
    downloading (a non existant file) then doing the upload.

    I checked VAX kermit and it allows logging of transactons, so I'll
    check it out.

    I'll try this on V2.0d when I get it. :-)

    Thanks for the "/log" suggestion,

33.13V2.0d 005, get it while its hotMILRAT::WALLACETue Jun 07 1988 19:199
    For a limited time only (disk space is low here) Uniterm V2.0d 005
    can be copied from -
    	MILRAT::DISK$USER3:[WALLACE.PUBLIC.ST.UNITERM]*.*
    There are three .ARC files. There is no doc file, just use the
    docs from V2.0c.

    This version is hot off the press thanks to Mike Reilly!

I have the three 20.d arc files mentioned a few replies back in
PRNSYS::DUA1:[LOMICKAJ.HOBBY.ST]UNIFONT.ARC,UNIMISC.ARC,UNIV20D.ARC, but
the most recent documentation I have is UNIV20A.PS. I don't have the
rev C documents that go with rev D.

	As explained on USENET, the version C had a bug in the XMODEM
	routines, D should work.  (I haven't tried D yet)

    re: .16

    Jeff, could you change the file protection on those files? I got
    an "insufficient privilege or file protection violation" error.

    Thanks

33.19Xmodem still no good?AQUA::OCONNORThe law dont want no gear-gammerWed Jul 13 1988 13:238
    re: .16 & .17

    It would appear, that at least for me the Xmodem in Uniterm doesn't
    work. I get "Received EOT" messages after about 4k of file in a
    file that is 100k+. However, the Y modem seems to work fine.

    Thanks Jeff for the pointer

33.202.0E User - TEXlessVANISH::SOUTARVANS (UK) Systems ManagerWed Jul 04 1990 17:2011
    Hi,

    	I got hold of Uniterm V2.0E a couple of months back, & so far I've
    just read the ASCII copy of the Users Guide.

    	I have the TEX version on floppy, is it worth getting it printed?

    Also, would anyone else be interested if I made V2.0E available on
    Easynet?

33.21UNITERM macro doc description?COL01::BOEHMFri Jul 06 1990 13:5711
    re: .20

    Hi Steve, I'd be interested in the Doc's for this version. Is there
    a description of the UNITERM macro capability contained in your
    doc?

    Regards. / Hilmar.

    P.S.: Is there anybody of the german UNITERM users listening? I
    would like to use the german Umlaut keys. Any chance?

33.22Yes - The Macro Processor is documented in 2.0EVANISH::SOUTARVANS (UK) Systems ManagerMon Jul 09 1990 16:246
Hi Hilmar, yes it is documented : I'll mail you a copy, & post a network
address here (when I've got my directory access sorted) for anyone to access.

	Steve
