**NOTE THE NEW LOCATION** - 45 Minot Avenue
Go north on Taylor Road at the lights just east of the junction of
Routes 2 and 111. Take your first right onto Minot Avenue (beyond
school on right). The Acton Christian Church is the building on the
left with the long wooden ramp in front.

Note that the Acton Christian Church does not currently have a sign
out in front to identify itself. The mailbox across the streen from
the church building is labelled "Adventures For Children", which
uses the facility as a Day Care center during the work week.
25.2Sign went up last SaturdayPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeff LomickaTue May 02 1989 16:007
As a deacon at Acton Christian Church, I am pleased to be able to say
that a sign was erected last Saturday to identify the building. Now you
don't have to "guess" that the place "looks like a church" anymore.

If you know what it takes to get a sign of any kind approved by the town
officials in Acton, you know that this is an event is worthy of some
celebration.

			     NaVAUS MEETING REPORT

Last night's NaVAUS meeting was attended by about 30 people. An
impressive turnout!

Rick Flashman of Gribnif software spoke about NeoDESK, how the product
came to be, and demonstrated what the current capabilities are. He also
demonstrated some features from the upcoming next major release, which
should be appearing in the spring. The new featues include substantial
new capabilities for customizing what happens when you activate an icon.
I missed a lot of the details, but I caught enough of it to be excited
about the possibilities. We all got to ask our favorite "tough" questions.

NeoDESK is impressive. Several copies of NeoDESK were sold on the spot.
Even I bought one! I can't wait to try it.

A pitch was given for the Blitz cable, and we got to see one first hand.
It's literally as simple as cutting a 6' floppy cable in half and
soldering the bare ends to a DB25. You use this get-up to attach two
drives and your printer port, and the controlling software (available as
freeware) does the rest. Using this cable, it's claimed that you can
format and copy a double sided disk in about 45 seconds. We didn't get a
demonstration, but we might get one of these for our library.

Rick Saul (HANNAH::) brought in a '520 with a substantial quantity (2.5
meg?) of memory in it, and opened it up for us to see how he did it. Lots
of wires! Not for the faint of heart, but impressive to see what you can
do with a little cleverness.

NaVAUS membership is on a calendar year basis, so if you live in
eastern Massachusetts, now's the time to get involved in your local
Atari club. Dues are $15/year, and this get's you our newsletter and
access to the club library of PD and shareware software titles (topic
461). The next meeting will be January 2, 1990 at 7:15PM at the Acton
Christian Church. See note 25.4 for directions.

25.12is there a Dan Wilga?SKETCH::PAULHUSChris @ MLO6B-2/T13 dtn 223-6871Fri Dec 01 1989 15:176
The real question is: Is there a Dan Wilga? Nobody seems to have
ever seen this person. The image appears: A cage with an imput door
for Pepsi and Twinkies and an output door from which pours forth
faboulous code. (I hope he's not another S. Hawking, or similar - I
would be quite contrite and wishing I had not written this if so...)

     March 1990 M E E T I N G N O T I C E

         Date: Tuesday, March 27th
         Time: 7:15 pm
Location: Acton Christian Church - large meeting room
        Topic: Midi applications

There is a LOT to demonstrate at this meeting. Please be early - aim
for 7:00 if possible, to get any disk copying and magazine reading
out-of-the-way before the feature presentation. I will have (my own)
recent issues of ST-Informer and Current Notes available starting at
6:45. Club copies of other publications usually show up with Ray
Wallace. I will attempt to minimize as much as possible the "club
business" portion. The adjenda will go something like:

7:15-7:25 club announcements
7:30-8:10 Chad Leigh and Dan Gosselin demonstrate C-Lab's Notator
8:15-8:40 Rick Saul breifly shows us some Hybrid Arts software
8:45-9:45 Dr. T's staff (oh no! I forgot their names!) will demonstrate
their Tiger CUB and Copyist Apprentice software.

I expect the meeting to be longer than usual. I know I won't get home
until after 11:00. I may swap Rick with Dr. T's if there is a time
constraint.

Acton Christian Church is at 45 Minot Ave, which is near the
intersection of Rt 2 and Rt 27. Turn NORTH at the first traffic light
on Rt 2 that is EAST of Rt 27. (This intersection is near the entrance
of Digital's Piper Road plant.) This road takes you past the Conant
school. Beyond the school, you reach a bend in the road. Turn RIGHT,
the church is right there on your LEFT.

Note that we are in the "other" room, that is, the large meeting room
with blue carpeting that looks like where the Church usually holds it's
worship services. This will allow us to use the sound system installed
in this room for the Midi demos.

(Of course, like much of life, things are not what they appear. In
actuality, the Acton church meets for worship in the same small room
with the Red carpet that we usually use for our meetings. Attendance
has been low lately, and the congregation "feels better" is the smaller
room. Twenety people in the small room feels like a lot. In the large
room, it feels like the place is empty.)

See you there!

Topic: Speech synthesis hardware, officer elections

The November 27 meeting of NaVAUS is very important. At this meeting we
will elect our club officers for the upcoming year. In addition, we
will receive a presentation from Bryan Levin about how makes his Atari
ST talk. Bryan has built a small speech synthesis device that attaches
easily to the Atari printer port.

The NaVAUS offices are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary,
ST librarian, and 8-bit librarian. Of particular interest to software
collectors, Buzz will be relinquishing the ST librarian office this
year. As a further enticement to run for office, the librarian gets
the use of the club's DSDD external disk drive and "Blitz" cable.

Beside the election, the November 27 meeting will feature a
demonstration of a small speech synthesis device that anyone can build
themselves for a few dollars. Bryan will have schematics, as well as
some software that could be used as the starting point for further
experimentation. For those of you that are interested in electronics as
a hobby, but haven't figure out where to start, this could be just the
thing for you.

lot of other stuff. Most members I've talked to will be bringing something.

Also, I will be taking final orders for people that want to take

The April 30 meeting will be a demonstration of "Cheap Midi" on the Atari

instruments can be connected to the ST, and driven using inexpensive or

While we all know that the Atari ST is an excellent tool for the
professional musician, this demo is aimed at how we can use the Midi
capability of the ST for our own enjoyment and education. Demos will be
done by Buzz Hamilton, Roy Lomicka, Joe Oconnor, and Jeff Lomicka.

Software will include some public domain sequencer software, samples
from the club's collection of "Music Studio" format music files, the
"ROBO-BOP" shareware drum sequencer, and if I can figure it out in
time, a demonstration of the demo of the new music program TCB-TRACKER,
a sample sound player.

Date: Tuesday, May 29, 1991 7:15 Officers Reports
         Time: 7:15 pm 7:45 Break
Location: Acton Christian Church 8:00 Rick Keene
Topic: Atari in graphics business, Migraph hand scanner demp

If you are at all into desktop publishing, this is one meeting you don't
want to miss! Artist Rick Keene will be demonstrating how the Atari ST
plays a role in his professional graphic arts business. Rick is a user of
the Migraph Hand Scanner, and will also show what role the scanner plays
in his work. Rick has been featured in an interview in the March issue
ST-Informer, and is the computer cartoonist and occasional author for
Current Notes.

This Tuesday's meeting is well timed. Rick has been using his Atari ST
and the Migraph Hand Scanner for some time, and will be able to provide
us with a wealth of information about it. Also, since I forgot to ask
last month about involvement in the Migraph Hand Scanner sub-club, we
are extending the deadline for signing up one additional meeting. This
means you can wait and see Rick's demonstration, and having seen it in
action, you will then be eager to hand over $20 for the opportunity to
borrow the Migraph scanner.

The benefits of joining NaVAUS are getting better all the time. All
NaVAUS members are entitled to receive a FREE "Atari User's Coupon Book"
from the St Connection. I will have these on hand at the next meeting,
and will pass them out to members that are present. Quantities are
limited, so you must be a member to get one at this month's meeting.
