I went to see "Jack the Ripper: The Whitechapel Musical" at the Boston Center for the Arts this weekend. It is being put on by Centastage. I have to admit, I went mainly because Centastage has a nice habit of giving reduced price tickets to the acters on their mailing list, and I rarely get to see any theatre! I really wasn't expecting much. Girl, was *I* wrong! This is an INCREDIBLE piece of theatre. And I'm not a big fan of musicals. I was amazed. And judging by the response, so were most members of the audience. Considering that it was press night, and more than half of the audience members were critics (including a New York critic from the acting trade, Back Stage), that is saying a lot! I highly recommend this show. You can find more information at Centastage's web page: http://world.std.com/~centasta E

I was in a very amateur (and probably illegal) production of this a few years back, and had great fun with it! Possibly part of that was because of the tiny theatre - it only had 90 seats! However, the show itself was great fun! regards, //alan

errrr...I don't think so. This is a world premiere of a musical by a local composer/lyricist team, and it wasn't finished a few years ago. E

errrr...I don't think so. This is a world premiere of a musical by a local composer/lyricist team, and it wasn't finished a few years ago. Ah. Oh dear, I think that they might have some problems with copyright or some similar legal thingies then - because there is already in existence a musical called Jack The Ripper. It has songs such as "Gawd Bless Us" and "The Ripper's Gonna Get You If You Don't Watch Out", as well as that classic of the stage (!) "They've Gone And Dressed Us Up In Women's Clothes" I can't remember the author/composer at the moment, I'll check that out when I get home. As far as I recall it's handled by one of the major distributors - French or someone similar. regards, //alan
