| This is from a mail message I sent today on a suspiciously similar
question I got from InfoServer product management:
On the VAX side:
InfoServer support for disk services (DADDRIVER) was bundled with
VMS starting with V5.4. I believe InfoServer engineering released a kit
that supported disk services back to V5.2 sometime after that. Support for
tape services (MADDRIVER) was added to VMS for V6.0. An update of the
"client kit" was released which supported tape services back to 5.4 (and
support for pre-V5.4 systems was dropped I think.) Subsequent client kits
were released in step with the InfoServer server releases to fix bugs in
tape support (of which there were many) and that code was also added to the
VMS master pack. Much of it went into V6.1 and the last of it went into
V6.2. The last client kit was ESS031.
The InfoServer V3.2 release notes (dated October 1994) contain the
following section:
InfoServer Client for OpenVMS
The distribution compact disc no longer includes an
InfoServer Client for OpenVMS software kit, as with
previous releases. This software is incorporated in the
Version 6.1 and later OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS AXP operating
systems. If necessary, Digital's Customer Service Centers
can provide software patches between OpenVMS releases.
The software patch (for VAX) was CSCPAT_1128. To the best of my
knowledge, CSCPAT_1128 has not been updated since sustaining took over the
code but I could be wrong. The last version I have is CSCPAT_1128016.
CSCPAT_1128 was newer code than any of the ESSxxx kits.
On the Alpha side:
V1.5 supported disk access only. V6.1 supported disk & tape. Geoff
checked in a port of all his changes right before he handed the code over to
sustaining. Unfortunately, there were a lot of problems in the code and
V6.2 shipped with tape support disabled. A patch kit, ALPLAD was produced
to ship the fixed code. That kit (and follow-ons) was produced by VMS
sustaining engineering. To the best of my knowledge, the last version of
ALPLAD is ALPLAD03.
