1216.0. "Macadamias" by RUSURE::EDP (Always mount a scratch monkey.) Tue Apr 01 1997 15:14

    Where can one procure macadamias in quantities of a pound or so? I'm
    looking for raw macadamias for baking, not the roasted and salted and
    price-jacked jars in supermarket nut sections.

  To shed more light on this: Macadamia nuts are grown in Hawaii, possibly in
CA too. Part of the high price of these nuts in the Northeast is due to having
to ship them a long distance (especially if from Hawaii). So I doubt that you
can get them cheap here. And they may not be cheaper raw, because you then
have to pay for shipping the added weight of the shells.
  The mail order houses are worth looking into. It may be cheaper to have
them sent by mail order from Hawaii than to buy raw nuts in a store (if any
stores around here carry them), because even though mail-order shipping is
expensive, you eliminate the middleman.
