807.0. "Kitty Tease - Better than Catnip?" by VIDEO::USHER () Thu Oct 01 1987 15:06

    I picked up a Kitty Tease at the Framingham show this past weekend.
    What is with this toy? My cat is nutty over this thing and acts
    like he has regressed into childhood. My only guess is the way
    it goes across the rug in a buglike hopping fashion. Smurf likes
    to play but usually after 5-10 minutes (he is 4 1/2) hes bored but
    with the Tease theres no end to his interest. I think it's great
    exercise for an indoor cat too. I also picked up an ostrich feather
    which produces a weird cry when its brought out, I think he, rather
    than play with this would just like to devour it. But he settles
    for it being twirled around his face, he just sits there with what
    looks like a smile...........

    I, too, own the kitty tease - two of them, as a matter of fact.
    I, as well, picked up my second one at the show on Sunday, the smaller
    of the two, and my red Aby LOVES it. I like the smaller one best
    as I don't have to put as much effort into flicking it around, and
    I can still read a book or do whatever with my other free hand.

    Here's a little hint for you: When the denim piece wears out, replace
    it with another denim piece from an old pair of jeans, and when
    the string wears out or gets unreasonably knotted, replace that
    with some clear fishing line. The cats seem to like the clear line
    better as the only thing they can see being flicked around, is the
    magical piece of denim and not the black line attached to it. Another
    hint, rub some natural catnip on the denim before your play routine
    with your cat -- Sit back and have a ball!!

    We made one very easily. Just buy a 3' thin wooden dowel (19 cents at
    Spags or any hardware store), drill or otherwise put a small hole in
    one end, thread it with fishing line or other strong string, and tie
    very securely on the other end some small cloth rectangles in the
    middle to make a bow.

    The fishing line is also good because you can snap it around and
    it sounds like a bird or insect whipping in the air! The cats love
    it!
807.3My kitty teases me!LAIDBK::RESKEPreserved For Future Use ...Fri Oct 02 1987 18:3421

    I obviously have a much smarter cat than the rest of you .. he finds
    his own kitty tease. :-) My cat gets endless hours of enjoyment
    from my palm tree plant which I now call the "love me/love me not"
    plant (so named since he picks the leaves one at a time). T.C. will
    pick a leaf off the plant and will have endless hours of fun chasing
    it, throwing it etc. He has also taught me this game is just as fun
    for two (he has me well trained). Mom can hold this leaf and move
    it and tease the kitty with it and it's all the more fun!

    Why would any kitty want to play in his kitty condo or with the
    numerous expensive toys when he can play with this living toy?
    I used to yell at him but he can put me on a guilt trip better than
    my mother ever could! Oh well, the plant can be replaced but my
    kitty sure can't!!

    Being a kitty mom is so rewarding .. can human kids be this much
    fun? :-)

807.4DON'T USE PLASTIC LINEPOSSUM::FAMULAROJoe, ZK02-2/R94, DTN381-2565Fri Oct 09 1987 16:0117
    I also bought a kitty tease and all three of my cats love it.

    The instructions that came with my kitty tease specified NEVER to
    use plastic fishing line. If the cats chew and break the line the
    tip of the line can be needle point sharp and actually pierce their
    mouth, throat, stomach ... etc. They suggested to replace the line
    with the same type fishing line (cloth like) that originally came
    with the unit.
