367.0. "First Show for kittens" by LAIDBK::SHERRICK (Molly :^)) Tue Oct 28 1986 13:36

I thought it might be fun for you all to learn about the delightful
results of my trip up to Colo. Spgs. for the Rocky Mountain Cat
Fanciers show this past weekend. I went up there, and stayed with
Debbie Bittrolff (who has a gorgeous house with lots of room for
people, AND cats!). We were about to take our 2, 4 month and 1
day old kittens to the show. (4 months is the youngest age you can
show a kitten.) The kittens are littermates, out of my stud, Echo,
and a female, Angie, that we co-own (Angie lives with Debbie).
The kittens are also the younger siblings to a couple of already
proven show cats that Debbie and I each own. Debbie's kitten -
Laforet's Winston Churchill, is a gorgeous little red male persian,
and my kitten is a cute little tortoiseshell persian, named Angelina.
Well, we both knew that Winston was a very nice little boy,
but you never know how they are going to stack up against what else
is out. Also, you never know if they will take to being shown,
and handled by lots of strange people (belive me, many of the judges
are strange people! ;-) ). Winston and Lina both seemed very
relaxed at the show, glad to get so many hugs from people! In fact
several of the judges commented about the purring.... Winston looks
like he's already done a little research into how to melt a judge's
heart, too - When the judge turns around to take a second look at
him, he gets up on his hind legs, reaches for the top of the judging
cage, and knocks his number off the top! Then, when the judges
hangs the ribbons, he takes those down, too.
The results of the show? Lina was in 2 finals - 4th best longhair
kitten, and 6th best allbreed, and Winston made it to 7 out of
8 finals, and was the highest scoring kitten in the entire show!!!!
I want to offer my thanks (for Lina) and my congratulations
to Debbie. It was a really exciting show, and the best part of
it was that the kittens really enjoyed it.

Yeah Winston! BEST KITTEN in Colo. Spgs!!!! Good luck this
    weekend in Albequrque!

367.3Monroe's first showPUZZLE::CORDESJATue Nov 11 1986 18:5041
I went to a cat show this weekend taking with me one of my cats
to compete as a household pet. Monroe has never been in a show
before. He has been on injured reserve for the last 6 months or
    so, mostly due to FUS.

The show was about an hour and a half from our house. Monroe has
been on long trips in the car before so I wasn't too worried about
that. I put him in the front seat facing me (in his carrier) so
that I could watch him while we drove. We were about 15 minutes
away when a big truck passed us and Monroe started to panic. I
pulled off the freeway and took him out of the carrier to comfort
him. After several minutes of cuddling and affection he had calmed
    enough to start off again.

We continued on our way for a few miles with everything going just
fine. Monroe was reclining inside the carrier, getting slit eyed.
I pulled off at our exit, much relieved that he seemed calm again.

As we pulled up to a traffic light, I glanced in my rear view mirror
and saw a car flying toward us at the speed of light! I tried
frantically to get out of the way! I had stopped some distance
from the car in front of me so I had some room. He slammed on his
brakes at the last minute and plowed into Monroe and I. I had my
seatbelt on so I wasn't hurt too badly. Monroe was thrown to the
floor of the car where he landed upside down. He immediately started
"calling" to me. I took care of all the details with the "gentleman"
who hit our brand new Honda Accord LX-i and Monroe and I continued
    on.

Since Monroe is a household pet he would be judged on his temperament
as well as his grooming etc. Also the fact that this was his first
show and he was scared didn't help.

Monroe acted like the champ I knew he was. He behaved splendidly
and even finaled in two rings out of four against 31 other cats.
I am very proud of him and plan to continue to bring him along to
    future shows.

367.4first show for JouissancePUZZLE::CORDESJAMon Dec 22 1986 21:0627
Here is the show report for Sacrechat's Jouissance de Mysinhs.
She is a sealpoint Birman female, just turned four months. She
was one of four sealpoint kittens at her first show. Considering
her age (the others were just under the eight month old cutoff)she
did very well against the competition and I got some very good feedback
from the judges on her potential.

Birman kittens are slow to mature, their points and markings develop
with age. She did not place in any of the kitten finals, but she
held her own in competition. Out of a class of four she recieved
one first place, two second place, and five third place ribbons.
She was judged best of color class once and second best of color
class twice. I asked Wain Harding, Will Thompson, and Kim Everett
for evaluations of her and I was very pleased with their comments.
(it was refreshing to me that they at least agreed with each other
about her strong points and her faults, it restores faith.)

Out of eight kitten finals, the birmans made it into two, one allbreed
and one LH specialty. That is a feat in itself! I'm looking forward
to the January shows since there will be a whole new batch of birman
    kittens old enough for competition.

The adult female that I agented took Best of breed in all but two
rings, but did not place in any finals either. Unfortunatly, she
was the only champion in the adult birman class.
