358.0. "Oh no, not again!!" by DONJON::SCHREINER (Pussycat, on the prowl...) Fri Oct 17 1986 17:57

Well, I've decided to keep one of my Red Tabby Persian kittens,
I think she might be a nice little show cat. But, I just can't
seem to come up with a good name for her....

I usually like to use a name that has something to do with either
the mother's or father's name, and I have thought of only 1...

Her mom's name is: Cattyshack's Look Alike

Her dad's name is: Thesaurus' Great Balls of Fire

Of course, I'ld prefer to use something to do with Fire, I've already
named a cat "Firecracker", so I can't use that again.

Now, another catch, the name can be no longer than 29 letters, and
must include the "Cattery name" Cattyshack...so, her name would
    be:

    Cattyshack's .....

The only name I've been able to think of for her is: Cattyshack's
    Light My Fire...

    Any thoughts???

Thanks...I Love all the suggestions, but still can't decide....Well,
I guess I have at least a month to decide, before I enter her in
a show. Trouble is, I have been calling her "Little Fi", and she's
    starting to answer to it....

Keep the ideas coming....their much appreciated!!

Yeah, Little Fi wants her own name! And if Big Fi had a visitor
last night, your gonna need all those names! I can just see him
in his velour smoking jacket with the matching ascot...Perry Como
records on the stereo...wine chilling by his sofa! Poor Fire, such
    a tough life!

Poor Fire, I gave him a woman last night, and she just wasn't
interested!! He tried champagne and roses, and still couldn't arouse
    her...tee hee

I told him he should maybe try sending her a few love letters, that
might get her in the mood....

No, I still haven't decided on a name for Little Fi....and Little
Fi doesn't really fit that well anymore, cuz she ain't so little!!
I have caught myself calling her Fire a few times, so she needs
a name real soon...It will be too confusing to have two cats with
    the same name!!! tee hee

I promise to decide on a name by Monday, and I'll let you all know!

    Ohhh, I love it!!!

Right now, I'm still calling her Little Fi, but I guess I've got
it narrowed down to 3 names:

    Cattyshack's Light My Fire
    Cattyshack's Goodness Gracious
    Cattyshack's Burning Desire

I'm leaning towards one of the first two.....

Still can't decide, but she's starting to answer to Little Fi!!!

Well... I registered a name for my kitten, how about you?

I sent in the papers Monday morning. What is your experience with
getting your first choice of names? I was suprised to find them
asking for two choices since I thought that cattery prefixes before
the name was enough of an identifier to distinguish between cats.

I did include a second choice, but I'm hoping for my first choice.

She will be dubbed Sacrechat's Jouissance de MySinhs

or Sacrechat's Jeune Fille de MySinhs

Jouissance is french for delight or enjoyment.

What did you name Little Fi?

Well, I gotta hang my head.....I still haven't named her!!!

I have decided to register her as "Cattyshack's Goodness Gracious"
though. I am still calling her "Little Fi" or sometimes "FiFi",
quite a silly name for such a nice kitten!!! Anyway, I've tried
calling her Goodie, and Gracie, and somehow it just doesn't fit!!!

I have never had CFA or CFF use my second choice for a name, in
fact, I almost never even submit one anymore!!

Let us know how your kitten does when you show her.

358.15One name choice can workGLINKA::GREENEMon Dec 01 1986 11:0812
I just sent in registration forms for my two new Russian Blue kittens,
and at Cin's suggestion, just listed one name after the cattery
name. Sure enough, almost by return mail, I received papers with
my only choice for each cat.

Now: how do I get a cattery name? I want to "grab" a name if it
hasn't yet been chosen. Do I need to have a litter of kittens first,
or can I just declare myself to be a breeder?

    Thanks for the continuing info!

Just request the cattery registration forms. It is highly advisable
to get the name before the kittens.

I think that CFA charged me $15, but that was a while back.

358.17As Soon As PossibleDONJON::SCHREINERdanger zoneMon Dec 01 1986 12:3817
Dave...that musta been quite a while ago!!!

I registered my Cattery in 1981 and it cost me $40 I think. It's
    probably a little more now.

Anyway, if your going to register in more than one association,
I suggest registering in CFA first. Most likely the Cattery name
you register in CFA will be available in other associations. If
not, then you may have different Cattery names for different
associations. But the best chance you have of getting the same
one is by registering CFA first.

    Do it right away!!

    Good luck

358.18I'm a little forgetful this morning!DONJON::SCHREINERdanger zoneMon Dec 01 1986 12:4016
    Oh yeah, I forgot....

I had such trouble getting the last note in this conference that
    I forgot to say...

Unlike registering kittens, send in lots of choices for Cattery
names, in order of preference. I would suggest at least 6 or 7,
maybe more. That way you don't have to waste time with forms going
back and forth in the mail.

Oh Yeah, Call CFA and they'll send you out the forms for Cattery
Registration, same with the other Associations.

358.19I just went through all that stuffPUZZLE::CORDESJAMon Dec 01 1986 16:4926
    Penelope,
I just registered my cattery name about a month ago. The cost
for CFA was $30.00. You do not have to use the forms that they
provide, so if you are really anxious just type up a letter listing
at least four choices and mail it off. There are some stipulations
about the type of name (i.e. no punctuation or spaces allowed, limited
    number of characters allowed).

It you aren't familiar with the stipulations then call CFA
and ask for the forms. This will save you some time down the road.
I wish I could remember the rest of the rules for you but I can't.

You can also get copies of the show standards and rules for $2.00
a piece at the same time. It is better to have your cattery name
before you purchase a kitten in order to save time and money later
on. If you bought and registered a kitten before getting your cattery
name you would have to pay an additional fee in order to add your
name to the kittens registered name.

Keep in mind that the total letters and spaces allowed for a cat's
registered name is 35. You may want to limit your cattery name
so that you have more to work with when naming your cats and kittens.

358.20Mail en route to CFAGLINKA::GREENEMon Dec 01 1986 17:4621
Thanks for the information about registering a cattery name. As
I just registered the two kittens (now "cats," I guess, as they
joined us the day before they were 8 months old), I'll send a letter
to the same address and enclose $30 to see if that is acceptable.

I probably won't show these two, although already their eye color
is coming in much stronger than I had expected, so the "finer" one
    may get shown after all.

I am on a waiting list for an especially good quality female from
another breeder -- that could take 1/2 to 1 or 2 years, and THEN
I will definitely want the cattery name to be included in the cat's
    name.

When I get a name approved, I'll let you all know.

(Meanwhile, I've changed my uVAX process name to Cat Lady: why
wait 'til I have 85 cats? I'm clearly heading in that direction,
as my children predicted a few years ago!)

Good Point, Joanne, about keeping the cattery name short. I wish
I had someone give me that advise when I was registering mine.
Cattyshack is long and when I purchase a kitten and try adding my
cattery name as a suffix, often I have to choose a 4 or 5 letter
    name for the cat.

$30...hmmm, I wonder if I paid more, or if I just thought I did!!

Seemed like alot when I was paying it!!! tee hee...

checked my records... $25 for CFA... $15 for TICA

My maines cattery name was chosen to fit the cat (Lovabacons Cap'n
Crunch). I had to stay under 7 letters.

Made some great choices for names later on.

Don't Worry about not having your cattery name attached to your
kittens name when you register it. CFA will let you add it later
for $3.00. (probably won't break you!) I think I had to send in
7 cattery names before I got one - BEAUDEE - named for my first
cat Baby Dee. The fee was $30 when I got my cattery name several
    years ago. Good Luck!
