4386.0. "My Tigger's Got the Blues...I Think!" by GRANPA::DCOMBER () Wed Feb 13 1991 19:00

    Help!

One of my two kittens, Tigger, aged 7 months has started a new
thing that has me UP IN ARMS!!

Tigger and Tawny were spayed last month and ever since I brought
them home from the hospital Tigger has started crying at 3 a.m.
I'll get up when I hear her and she'll run to the kitchen. I've
checked the food bowl and there's food in it -- if not, I've always
put some in for her, but, 15 minutes later she'll start crying
again! Tawny is usually under out bed sleeping, but when I get
up, so does she. I don't get up when she starts again and after
a while she will stop and jump up on the bed and sleep with me.
But this crying breaks my heart!

Why is she doing this? Or, what can I do to stop it?

Someone, anyone please help -- I can't keep being late for work
because "the kitten kept me up"! Thanks so much in advance,

    Diana

I think she is doing it cuz it works!! :^) Her main objective is to
get some attention, and she is getting attention. Try totally ignoring
her and see if after a few days she doesn't give up. This won't be
    easy, but try it.

if she bothers you too much, shut your bedroom off from her when she starts
crying. She will stop fairly quickly if she doesn't get what she wants.

One of my cats used to do this - he was Siamese and came out with a
pitiful cry that was ever so loud. I ignored him when I figured there
was nothing wrong - his next step was to go find a toy and bring it up
on the bed and throw it in my face. I then made it a point to pick up
all the toys before I went to bed. How'd that song go "I'm gonna wait
    till the midnight hour'?????

Kittens are high energy babies. Try some games like catch the
catnip mouse before bedtimes to tucker her out. This gets
better as they get to be a year or so old.

    Here's an update on Tigger...

Once again, the great advice that I've received through this notesfile
has helped!! Thanks to all of you!

I've been giving Tigger extra TLC before I head off to bed at night and
on Friday night, she stopped crying! Saturday and Sunday were quiet
too...I only hope that this lasts.

I can't thank all of you enough, but, thanks from Joe, Tawny and me!

Diana (and Tigger thanks you too...she likes sleeping through the
    night!)
