4484.0. "NEW PUTIPUT KITTENS !!!!!!" by CRUISE::NDC (Putiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313) Tue Mar 26 1991 10:13

    Ta Da!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Announcing the birth of two more Putiput kitties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talegre Bonnie Bairn MacTavish of Putiput delivered two kittens
this morning between 6:00 and 6:45. She had been in labor since
about 4:30 am, (at least that I was aware of).

This one was a little tough - and scarey. Both kittens were
born backend first and the first was dry (no sack). Bonnie had
a rough time delivering and at one point it took Jack and I to
hold her and help her deliver the head. The poor little kitten looked
so elongated and limp that at first I thought it hadn't survived.
But I rubbed it and swung it and it let out a yell of protest (just
like a fold). That was a truly wonderful sound. :^)

The second kitten was also delivered backend first but she was still
in the sack and Bonnie had a much easier time with her. She was far
more active than the little boy. I say "she" because I got my tortie
    and white!

The little boy is mostly red with a few spots of white - at least
as far as I can tell. I'm so glad to have red in this litter.

While I'm at it - Fiona had her kittens about a week ago. She
delivered eight but two died at birth. She had three red & white
and three black and white (that could be black smoke and white - its
too early to tell). She did lose one of the red & whites over the
weekend but still has five healthy kittens. (Fiona is a tortie and
white and I was very disappointed that she didn't have any torties).

So now we wait for 3-4 weeks to find out who will fold!!
Bonnie seems pretty happy now and certainly has a good appetite ;^)

Actually I'm at home. I took two vacation days so I'd be with Bonnie.

re: folds -this is the third time today I've been asked that question :^)
The unique feature about folds is that their ears fold forward so they
look like they're wearing a scull cap. They also have big round eyes
and round heads and short muzzles. They sort of look like owls. They're
VERY cute.

Thanks to all for their well wishes. I shall pass them along
to the new mom who seems very happy (and hungry).

Just to confuse those of you who don't know about scottish folds,
not all the kittens have folded ears. That's why so many folks
are offering wishes for lots of folded kittens. The ones that
don't fold still have the big round eyes, round heads, cobby
bodies and short muzzles like their folded siblings and as Angel
demonstrates, can be truely beautiful and striking cats.

"Straight-earred folds" (sounds like a contradiction in terms) are
used in breeding since you breed straight to folded ear cats or are
sold as pets. They are wonderful for the HHP competitions at the
shows and I may just take Angel out HHP after I retire her from
breeding. The straight-ear in the breeding may also be an American
    or British Shorthair.

4484.24CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Wed Mar 27 1991 14:1427
re: .23 - Yes Halie is due this Sunday and is doing her usual
"beached whale" imitation (as Jack calls it) ;*) She actually
seems to enjoy being pregnant and is in a much better mood when
she's pregnant. Guess *someone* ought to enjoy it, eh?

re: folds - I forgot to mention that we won't know for 3-4 weeks
    who will fold.

re: straight to straight - Funny you should ask that. Nancie Belser,
who is a fold breeder, asked me if I'd ever done that or if I even
knew of anyone who had. She was wondering if it was possible to
get folds from straight-ears. My understanding of the genetics was
that the fold gene was dominant - meaning that it would be impossible
to get a fold from two straight earred parents - like its impossible
to get short hairred kittens from long-hairred adults. It would be
interesting if we found that there was something that inhibited the
expression of the fold gene rather than that the fold gene was
    dominant.

I doubt I will ever try it since I'm not sure what I'd do with the
kittens. I'd have to do alot more research before I'd try it, only
because right now it feels like I'd just be producing kittens for
which there would be no real market and I don't believe in doing
that. I'd have to be very sure that the breeding served a practical
purpose and would further information on the breed before I'd feel
it was right for me to do that.

4484.25What about the straights?MCIS2::HUSSIANYellow RibbonWed Mar 27 1991 14:449
So there isn't really a market for the ones who don't fold?

Are these "given away" (adopted out), rather than sold for money, or do
you use the straights for breeding w/ the folds?

Probably fundimental questions, but to a non breeder, nothing is
    obvious. Thanks!

4484.27straight-earred foldsCRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Thu Mar 28 1991 10:5142
re: straights - There is a market for straight-earred folds but it is
nothing like that for the folded cats. As you can imagine the folded
ear kitties are VERY unique looking whereas a straight-ear just looks
like "any old cat" to the those who aren't fold enthusiasts ;^)
Of course, an American shorthair would qualify for that description
    also.

The market for straight-ears is with folks who love the scottish fold
personality and either can't afford one with folded ears or already
have one with folded ears so they are happy with the straightears.
To my eye, the SE folds have a unique look too. No other breed has
those eyes. People who see Angel (a SE from Halie's litter) always
comment on her eyes first and what a stunning cat she is. She has
beautiful silver tabby markings (as does Shadow).

I only had one SE out of my first litter to place and I sold her for
$50 which is exactly what Kitty Angels charges. I sold her to friends
of Alice Jacobson and I wanted to be sure they weren't taking her be-
    cause she was a "bargain".

For comparison - I paid $250 for Batman - the SE father of these
kittens. I'm just beginning to acquire information on the role of
the SE in the fold breeding programs. I don't think its very well
understood, but it seems that choosing the right SE for the breeding
can balance negative traits - like short or less flexible tail - in
the folded cat. Well have to wait and see what the Batman-Bonnie
    breeding produces in that area.

Straight-ears make very good show cats in the HHP competition. There
was a resolution voted on in CFF this year to allow SE's in the AOV
class but sadly it was voted down. I'm frustrated by that because
I feel that the SE is a very important part of the breeding program and
should be shown for that reason. I think the rest of CFF is concerned
that we'll push for championship status for the SE's. It bothers me
that 1/2 the cats in my breeding program will never be seen. It would
be educational for me to see what the SE's in other breeder's programs
    look like.

Oh well...that's another story. Enough rambling.
More info as I find it out.

Congratulations, Nancy and Bonnie and Fiona. Nancy, you are going to
tempt me so much, that I will have to make a detour from NY to MA in
July when I visit my folks. All those adorable folds or SE's. I
wouldn't mind a SE to go along with my fold. Marnie has the cutest
purrsonality. If he's typical, I'd love more. (But I have 4, I really
can't, gee it hard to be practical when cats are so adorable) Enjoy

I was a bit disappointed that we had no silvers this time. We have

Looks definite, Bonnie's little cream/cameo boy is folded and "Tiff"
isn't. If her current behavior/personality is any indication, she'd
be one heck of a household pet. She's bold as brass and absolutely
DEMANDS attention. Bonnie is constantly exasperated with her as
Tiff won't stay put. The kittens are now so big that Bonnie can't
lift them. She sort of drags them across the rug to where she wants
    them. Its a hoot!

4484.45I've got a litter of straight-earsCRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Tue Apr 30 1991 11:0536
Well, I guess i've about evened out now. NONE of Halies kittens
folded. So out of a total of 14 kittens in three litters, 6 have
folded. Fortunately, Bonnie's little boy looks real good. Also,
I have pick of Fiona's litter and will be taking a red and white
folded boy. I have also been asked to sell the other red and white
    folded boy.

Here's the final count on Halie's litter, now 4 weeks old:

Brown tabby and white Female - quiet and sweet
Silver tabby female - already eating solid food and using the box.
outgoing and vocal. She's a kick.
Black smoke female - real cutie.
Brown tabby and white male Dundee look-alike. He's the biggest
of the litter and quite playful.
Brown tabby and white male - his face is going to look like
Shadow's I think in terms of patterning.

Tiffany is not available right now. I think she's staying.

I'm asking $100 for these straight-earred kittens. They will have
had at least two 4-in-1 shots by the time they go. If I have them
until they are 12 weeks they will have had three 4-in-1's plus a
rabies shot. They will all be sold with a kitten contract that
    contains the following conditions:

    1. Must be spayed/neutered at the appropriate age
    2. May not go outside except on leash/harness AND with supervision
    3. May NOT be declawed without breeder's permission
    4. Must send pictures to me on mother's day and Christmas ;^)

These kittens make excellent show cats for the HHP class and I'd be
delighted with anyone who wanted to show them.

There are a few other conditions, but these are the biggies.

OK, now that I know what a "fold" is....I have one other question...

Is there something special about them? Do they make a better cat or
    something?

    michele
4484.50Are scottish folds special! ;^)CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Wed May 01 1991 10:4837
Michele - Do you live in Mass? If so there is a pet-care fair
on Sunday May 5th in Concord Ma from 1-5 pm. I will have some
of my Scottish folds with me for exhibition so you can meet one
    in purr-son.

re: special - well, I'm of the opinion that ALL cats are special
regardless, but I must admit to being in love with Scottish folds.
They are a type of purebred with a wonderful comic personality and
I started breeding them last year. They also have a very unique
look. The most unique thing about them is the folded ears. They sort
of look like a cross between a cat and an owl.

They are sweet, affectionate, intelligent, inquisitive, mischievious
and people oriented cats. I find them to be active, but much less so
than a breed like an abyssinian. I have also found them to be very
    non-destructive.

For health reasons breeding is always between a "folded ear" cat and
a "straight-ear" cat. The latter can be an outcross to a British or
American Shorthair. For that reason not all of the cats inherit the
gene for folded ears. The ones that do not are called "Straight-earred
folds". Sort of a contradiction in terms.

Anyway, when the kittens are born it is impossible to tell which will
have folded ears and which will be straight-earred. If the kittens are
going to "fold" that will happen between 21 - 28 days. Halie's kittens
just passed the 28 day mark and they all still have straight-ears.
Sigh. The straight-earred kittens are sold as either breeders or as
pets because they carry all the other traits of scottish folds
including that wonderful personality. There is currently no class
for straight-earred folds amongst the purebred classes at catshows,
however, they can be registered and shown as household pets and they
seem to do quite well. They are beautiful cats.

Please contact me if you'd like to know more or if you'd like to visit.
I'm not trying to sell anything other than my love for the breed.

Yes they are beautiful cats!! Nancy, I was skimming through my Cats
magazine last night and saw an ad for "double folds". What does that
mean? The same ad also mentioned long hair kittens available soon.
What cats are being used to produce long hair? I've learned so much
from this file and from talking to you at shows, I'm just curious about
    this.

4484.52They are very smart tooDEMON::MURPHYWed May 01 1991 14:2322
Nancy, I think a note on how extremely intelligent Scottish Folds are
is in order here. Besides "Thai" (my part Siamese), I have never known
a cat as quick to understand things I say or do than my "Jamie" does.
Jamie, as you know, is my straightearred Scottish Fold I got from Tony
last year. It's like he (and Thai) read my mind, which is why they in
particular out of my other 4 cats seem to sense my moods right away too.

I was watching TV last night when I happened to glance towards the kitchen.
There was Jamie sitting on top of the table (where he shouldn't be but he's
spoiled rotten) watching me. I pointed a finger at him and said "I see you,
you little Siberian Tiger" and repeated it again.

Suddenly he came leaping off the table and ran in the livingroom, whipping
by me and came up from behind my chair. I pretended to be "oh so
frightened of the tiger" and he played right along with me and climbed up
under the throwI have on chair, looking much like a "casper ghost kitty".
I almost expected him to say "Boo". ;-) We played this game a few times
more until he decided he wanted to then play fetch with his "one-legged,
fuzzy, white spider". He cracks me up!

4484.53LH is a recessive gene, SH is a dominant geneWR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityWed May 01 1991 15:0825
I believe that the long haired folds just naturally occured in the
Folds because the LH (long haired) gene is recessive. When two
short haired folds were bred together that carried that gene
recessively, a LH fold was the result. The original fold was a
mutation I believe, and that first fold may have been heterozygous for
    coat length.

Many short haired breeds carry the LH gene recessively. That is how we
got Somalis (LH Abys), Balinese (LH Siamese), and Javanese (LH Oriental
Shorthairs). Longhairs also occassionally show up in other shorthair
breeds, but unless the breeders find the trait desireable enough to try
to get accepted as a new breed or division, those LH kittens are just
    sold as pets.

Hope this answers your question. I am sure that Nancy can add more
since this is her breed. FWIW, I prefer longhaired cats, and saw a LH
fold a few years ago that I would have given any amount of money for.
:^) She was a calico, and her ears were tightly folded, but her ear
furnishings (the hair that LH's have in the inside of their ears) came
out of her ears and curved back from her face. It was so cute. Those
colors, the big round eyes, the cute ear furnishings made for a totally
adorable cat. Unfortunately the owner thought she was as adorable as I
    did. :^)

    Jo
4484.54CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Thu May 02 1991 11:0421
You're right Jo. I also know that in developing the breed many
different breeds were crossed in, including exotic shorthairs. So
even if the first SF didn't carry the LH gene, it got crossed in there
    on the way.

re: Double vs single fold - This is easier to show than tell but I'll
do my best. According to the breed standard, the adult fold should
have a definite fold line, or crease in its ears. Sometimes there's
one crease and sometimes there's two. The latter produces a much
tighter earset and is definitely the more desireable earset. Shadow
is a double fold, Micki and Charli are single folds, and CC & Dugie
don't have definite creases. Their ears sort of curve forward.

Right now it looks like "Red" - Bonnie's cameo & white boy looks like
he's going to be a nice double fold.

I like the LH folds too, but my preference is still for the shorthairs.
If I ever get a LH in my litters, Jo, I'll let you know :^)

BTW - CFF now has a class for LH folds.

4484.62CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Thu May 16 1991 11:5917
Here's the story about Putiput. You've all heard about my first
cat Kathryn who got hit by a car on Dec 28th, 1978. Well Kathryn
had a rather long name. She started out as Kathryn Elizabeth Kitten
    but it grew to:

Kathryn Elizabeth Velma Splotch Trouble Kielbasa Putiput Kitten

I can only imagine how long her name would have been had she lived
    longer than 2 years.

Anyway, when I was picking a name for the cattery I wanted to
comemmorate her since she's the one who taught me to love cats
so much. Putiput was a nonsense word we'd made up that meant
"cat or kitten" so Putiput it was. I also figured that no one
else would have used that name.

    For Sale:
These two kittens are out of Talegre's Fiona McFee (Dundee's mom)
    and Quista Bartman of Putiput.

Male Red Classic Tabby (Smoke) Scottish fold (folded ear). Jack
had this little fellow purring in his lap this morning.

Male Red McTabby with White Scottish fold (folded ear). This little
guy settled right in as soon as we brought him home. Halie's kids are
teaching both of them how to get into lots of trouble :^)

Both are nice chunky cats especially the first fellow with good
earsets. In my opinion the red and white is the better of the two
but its close and hard to tell at this age. They're about 8 weeks
old and just received their first shots. They will be ready to
    go in another 3 weeks.

One of them is my "stud fee" and I am selling the other for the
guys who have Fiona now. They are playful and happy little fellows.

    Price: $250

Well, now that I've had Fiona's babies for a little bit I can tell
you more about their personalities. They are VERY VERY affectionate
kitties. They follow me around from room to room and talk to me all
the time. They both purr if you so much as look at them and they
both sleep with me at night. I think they'll both be lapcats too.

The solid red is the better of the two in terms of how good a fold
they are. His tail is nice and flexible, he has a decent earset and
a nice round face and chunky body already. If I still have him in
August I'm going to bring him to Mansfield - that's how good he is.

Well, its official. Angel is Pregnant! I hadn't intended to breed
her but she and her brother had other ideas. Now before you get
worried about such incest their parents (Halie and Batman) are
totally unrelated, PLUS granddad is an American Shorthair and
Batman has British shorthair in his recent past. SO...my feeling
is that the ancestry is sufficiently unrelated that this won't
cause problems. I had actually contemplated the mating anyway.

Angel is due July 18th and since both are silver tabbies I expect
silvers, maybe a golden (since silvers carry gold) and perhaps
a black and white. They were the best two of the litter so hopefully
they'll pass along their good traits. And, ANgel is a straight-ear,
    Shadow a folded.

    More news as it happens.
      Nancy DC

    p.s. I'm glad that I learned my lesson on a straight/folded mating.

I just have to tell you about our adventure over the weekend!
Yesterday we flew to Hacketstown NJ to visit fold breeder Sue Stephens.
We brought Shadow, "Little-little" and the black smoke kitten with
us. Shadow will be staying with Sue, on lease, for stud services
which should make him very happy. No more interruptions by mom!

In exchange for leasing Shadow to Sue I will be getting a show
quality fold most likely out of her male Panda when he comes
back from Texas. Panda will hopefully bring just what I need into
my lines for a GOOD balanced fold. Panda sires kittens with good
tight ear-sets and long, flexible tails. He also has a WONDERFUL
sweet disposition. (All Sue's cats are very very sweet).

The iceing on the cake was when Sue decided to take the black smoke
kitten out of Batman and Halie for breeding! I have my eye on a
gorgeous blue smoke female that I will be getting if Sue decides not
to keep her. That will insure that when Shadow comes home I'll have
    a nice girl for him.

I was delighted with the quality of Sue's kittens and with her
cattery setup. I walked into the adult cattery and the first thing
I noticed was the smell of bleach which tells me that she keeps a
good clean cattery! There was absolutely no urine smell.

Sue gave me alot of GOOD advice and impressed upon me how important
it was to develop my breeding program and plan ahead. And I took
her advice and didn't take any kittens home yesterday even tho I
wanted to. She had already sold most of her "top shelf" kittens and
I could have done well with one of the others, but this is my
opportunity to bring a cat into my program that I otherwise wouldn't
be able to afford right now. So I'm going to wait for just the right
    kitten.

Roberta - Sue has a blue cream longhair fold that is absolutely "to die
for"! If she didn't want it to go to California to be shown I would
have taken her and gotten into longhairs too. (I think Jack was just
as glad that Sue had other plans for this baby :^)

Sue is a great believer in the barter system and I think its wonderful.
She thought my cats were excellent - and told me she was really
surprized at the quality considering I'm a new breeder! I have Tony,
Beverly and the folks in this file to thank for that :^)

NOW - If ANY of you are knitters out there and would like a nice
Sue Stephens fold, she needs a knitted afghan for her living room
and will happily trade a nice folded kitten for one. If your
interested, contact me and I'll give you her phone number.

What a day! I have videos of Sue's kittens too if anyone is

its traceable back to "Snooks" who was one of the original folds

well, if my family's experience is any indicator, it may be best. My great
aunt spent one whole summer tracing the family tree...and decided she just
DIDN'T want to know any more. What she discovered:

on my father's side, I am descended from Oscar Wilde (yup - he did
have children)...of course, Oscar was arrested for being
openly homosexual in England which was against the law at
the time (most folks think he was arrested only because his
accused lover at the time was from one of the noble families)

while I am quite proud of the connection - he was a great
writer and social satirist - Aunt Maude was just a little
		shocked.

Then she discovered that HER side of the family included several criminals,
a military deserter (German, WW I), and then there were the, ah, "children
from the wrong side of the blanket" ....a gentle way of saying they were
the progeny of unmarried mothers. That's when Aunt Maude threw up her hands
and decided she didn't want a family crest after all. She didn't even get
to the slave trader ships captain....

We are all "moggies" and proud of it!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

CC, SHADOW, CHARLIE, DOOGIE, MICKI, ANGEL and BONNIE II were 1 year
old on Saturday and Isis was 7 years old on Saturday.

Doogie threw a birthday party and invited all his brothers and sisters.
He was quite dismayed when the brothers and sisters that showed up were
NOT the ones from his litter. Well, CC came and even mommy had trouble
telling them apart from the front. Micki was there. CC insisted
on bringing 5 kittens with her and they were good little boys and
girls. They settled right in, eating any food they found, playing
in the plants, ignoring the "Dragon" (Kelly, the older golden
retriever) and generally being "Cute". They even wore party hats
with better graces than Doogie and Micki. (CC was a good sport about
the whole thing) After that indignity, Doogie and Micki went upstairs
and grumbled to each other for a 1/2 hour on top of the waterbed.

Auntie Pat came over too and we all had a great time playing "pin the
    tail on the mousie".

Well, my favorite time at the party was watching those adorable babies
playing and having such fun. They made themselves right at home and
investigated everything.

CC was so cute the way she called to the kittens and "mothered" them. She
even called them to come to the video room and watch the film with us.

Micki demonstrated his favorite sitting position (on the rug as well as on
a glass table), Tiffany tried her "paw" at playing the piano, Halie's two
brown/white tabby boys, Lil' lil, Sunny, & Tiff learned how to play "chase
the pretty marbles", and Doogie checked out all these "new kids on the
block" and walked around like "Mr. Cool".

After the kittens would wear themselves out playing they'd take quick "cat
naps" and you could find one on a chair, one on a glass table, one or two
curled up in one of their carriers, and another on a rug.

I wish you could have seen the table setting. Balloons, kitty party favors
and paper plates with kitty pictures. The party hats were adorable and
Nancy, you have a real craft there. "Putiput's Party Hats for Kitty
Birthdays." ;-)

The food and company were GRRRREEAAT (as a certain tiger would say)! :-)

Well, it looks like Shadow will be coming home a little earlier than
I had expected. Sue has decided to take a break from breeding and
is selling off all her straight-earred girls. I am VERY disappointed.
To make up for my not getting my kitten from the lease agreement,

I will definitely be at the Peabody TICA show with kittens for
sale if anyone is interested in seeing them. I"ll have all four.

Geez, I'd better sell them soon. They're 3 months old now and
I'm getting VERY attached to them.

FYI they've now had 3 four-in-one shots and a rabies shot.

    Still available for sale:

Male Brown classic tabby & white, straight-ear fold now named
"Mayday" after Sam Malone (aka Mayday Malone) on Cheers. Mayday
is a very handsome fellow and is turning out to be quite mellow
in new situations. He just hung around and purred at the TICA
show so he'd probably make a great cat for showing HHP. He's
going to be a big boy.

Oh - lately Mayday's favorite game is bite-the-toes at 3:00 am!
I think they're starting to teethe.

Male shaded cream and white, folded-ear (sort of ;^) who's been dubbed
Sunny (Sundance). He's a sweetie who frequently sleeps in my lap.

ANNOUNCING THE BIRTH OF THREE NEW PUTIPUT FOLDS!

Angel had her first litter last night (Sunday) between 5:00 and
9:30 pm. (Poor baby, it was SO hot) She went into labor around
5:00 and had her first baby (FINALLY!) at 6:45. Just under the
wire. (The book says if 2 hrs of hard labor has not produced
a kitten, call the vet). Two more followed within about the
    next 2 hrs or so.

I don't know about sexes yet but for colors we have one all black
(that was the first born), one silver tabby and one silver tabby
and white. Angel was pretty aggitated for a while there, but
once instinct kicked in she was fine.

re: .91 Well, if Angel's behavior of late has been any indication
she's going to go for everything to which she's entitled!

This probably should have been in the note about hiding places -
I thought we had reached a compromize where she was going to
keep the kittens in the kitty-condo but when Jack arrived home
yesterday he couldn't find Angel or one of the kittens. She had
taken it UNDER THE FREEZER! Jack had one heck of a time getting
it and Angel yelled at him the entire time.

This morning they are in a tokyo cage! End of arguement.

BTW - I'm fairly sure that all three are males.

Well, the star has returned. Putiput's Silver Shadow is back in
the cattery and seems to know he's home. It's nice to have him
    back :^)

Also returned is the little black smoke kitten who was dubbed
"Raisinette" by Sue Stephens' daughter. Raisinette is love!
Just purrs up a storm and asks to be let out of the cage constantly.

Also, new to the cattery is Marmalade - a cream straight-ear who
will be Shadow's girlfriend in a few months. She's a very very
    lovely, sweet girl.

Little Raisinette will be available for sale after a 3 week isolation
period. Since she's just returned from another cattery i'm taking
precautions with her (and the other two). I want to be sure they're
100% healthy before they go anywhere else.

We had a very cute little interaction last night. I openned the
cage for Shadow (its in the livingroom and he seems extreemly
content with the location) and Angel to say hello. CC came over
and all three of them touched noses in a little kitty reunion.
(They are littermates) There is obviously some affection there.
    It was really touching.

I think people with a single cat do miss something because they don't
get to watch the cats interacting with each other.
    I could watch for hours.

Announcing the birth of Bonnie's second litter. She had FOUR kittens
last night (I got to be around midnight - yawn). Personally I thought
she pulled a magic act there because she wasn't that big. I don't know
where she had the other two. I was expecting only two kittens!!

Now this presents an interesting pattern:

    6/22/90 Halie had seven kittens

    3/26/91 Bonnie had 2, 4/2/91 Halie had 5 = Seven kittens

    7/21/91 Angel had 3, 8/28/91 Bonnie had 4 = seven kittens

    7 7 7 I think I see a pattern!!

Bonnie had a cream and white boy, a calico girl (mostly white with
spots of cream and black), a silver and white and a black or
black/smoke and white ?girl? who is going to be a real pretty baby.

Mom and babies are doing fine.

Oh - and Jack and I are healing too. Bonnie chomped both of us
but good during the delivery of her first kitten. I figure she's
entitled. I'm sure she was in pain.

It really shows me tho that the damage from a cat bite is NOT in
the puncture itself but in the soft tissue damage that is done to
the area surrounding the punctures. Something to keep in mind if
you're ever dealing with a cat bite either in yourself or in your

Well, this past weekend definitely does NOT qualify as one of my
best. First I took a dive off of Abe (the horse I ride) and landed
on my ribcage (and my head, but I wear a hard helmet). I thought
for sure something was broken but the x-rays say otherwise. Geez,
rib injuries hurt!!! You have no idea how much you use the muscles
through that area just in maintaining balance.

Anyway, Lynne was good enough to drive me home since I'd ridden
my scooter down to her place, and we discovered that the little
silver and white boy had died. Actually, I don't think he was quite
gone when we found him, but there was nothing we could do.

It took me a few hours before I'd finally admit that he was really
gone. I laid him out in a little box and put some african violet
flowers in the box with him. Then Jack dug a hole in the back yard
near some bushes and we laid him to rest.

I felt so bad for the poor little guy. Especially when I go in and
watch Angel's three who are now 6 weeks old and playing. I've prayed
that this little guy will get another chance and will be re-born in
some future litter in a healthy body.

Since I had so much trouble getting this little guy started, I can
only conclude that he had some physical problems. Perhaps it is a
blessing to lose him now and not at 3 or 4 weeks when I'd gotten
attached. Perhaps that's a selfish attitude and maybe I"m just
trying to make myself feel better. I keep worrying that I didn't
pay enough attention to the litter.
      Nancy

Clarification - Abe doesn't have a nasty bone in his body. I was
trying some new boots (that don't work) and my foot slipped out of
the stirrup while we were trotting. Since it was a nice cool day
and Abe *LOVES* to be ridden, he didn't stop immediately when I
pulled him up. I lost my balance and got bounced right off the
    side.

Lynne said I should have seen the look on Angel's face (her registered
quarter horse) and the dance he did to avoide stepping on me.
(Thanks Angel!!) Tho, I don't think I would have noticed at that
particular moment. I was trying to breathe!

Anyway, just as soon as I can pull myself back up I"ll be riding
again. And NOT in those boots.

sorry to hear about the poor little guy. It's nature's way of handling
the newly born who have real physical problems to just let them go
early. Hopefully, his little soul will have another chance.
Your horse fall brought back some memories, when I was a teen I had a
heck of a fall off a horse, bruising my ribs terrible, and getting some
good deep puncture wounds. It's actually kind of a funny story in that
I was with a group of people on horseback walking calmly through a
field, when a loose dog just happened to pick my horse to nip the heels
of. He reared up and took off, sending me flying when he took a sharp
right to avoid a boat. Yes, a boat! Picture this huge field of soft,
nice grass, and in it was a boat turned upside down with the nice hard
jagged engine parts sticking so nicely up in the air. Out of all the
unimaginable square feet in that field, I fall on the one and only
hard object, a boat yet!!! Never did quite live that one down. But,
despite my rather severe bruises, I was back the next day. But wowwww
    was I sore!

Sunny is a pretty cream and white boy with topaz eyes. He's VERY
playful and comical. In my house he isn't much of a lap cat but
I noticed that when Tiffany and Tina are in the cattery he'll

Well, Putiput's Sundance is visiting Dr. Harris this morning for
"the operation". He's just a tad over 6 months old and normally
I'd prefer to wait longer but as Jack puts it "He knows he's a man".
He keeps grabbing his sister by the back of the neck. She puts up
with it for about 10 seconds and then rolls over and swats him one.
Its as if he grabs her and then can't figure out what to do next.
    It's really quite comical :^)
