4581.0. " Mocha deserves better..." by SOLVIT::IVES () Wed Apr 24 1991 01:20

This is a difficult note for me to write, and I have put it off
for sometime now. My Mocha needs a new family where he can
    be an only cat.

Mocha is a big beautiful apparent purebred Ragdoll cat that
showed up at our door 3 years ago last December. We tried
to find his original owners but to no avail, so we kept him
as our family pet. At that time we had a Saint Bernard and
no other cats. Mocha and Sebastian were inseperable. After
Sebastian passed away, Mocha was very lonely so enter Ming,
a retired Himalayan queen, spayed and placed from a cattery.
Mocha never adjusted to Ming, and would frequently beat up
on her and she ended up with stress related alopecia (loss
of hair). We tried several options for Mocha including Ovaban
but his agressiveness toward Ming still remained. I decided
to adopt another Himalayan, this time a big, muscular neuter
for Mocha to play with, but he even resented this more. He
simply wants to be top cat in the house. He is a wonderful
boy as long as there are no other cats around for him to
compete with. I think he would do well in a home with a
dog or as an only cat. He likes people and is affectionate
and friendly, thought on his terms. He purrs loud.

Mocha is a sealpoint with an inverted V of white on his face
(bicolor is how the breeders refer to this) and a pink nose.
His toes are tipped with white. His coat is long and needs
grooming. He matts easily. Unfortunately, he doesn't like
to be groomed much (by us anyway) so we take him to the groomer
every 6-8 weeks. The groomers always tells me what a good boy
he is and doesn't give them any trouble. I have to stress that
his coat needs extra care and would like the new owner to keep
it up as we did do he won't be uncomfortable with the matts.
Mocha has big blue eyes and weighs 13 pounds. He enjoys the
outdoors and needs to be in a home conducive to going out but
still have a family to come home to and love. He would not fare
well being made into an indoor cat, I guarantee that. I almost
forgot he is neutered and is 4 years old.

Mocha is free to the right home. I will take him back if by
chance things don't work out. This is not a note to "get rid
of him." I simply feel he needs a different sort of environment
and want to do what's best for him. He isn't happy anymore and
it breaks my heart to see him this way. Ideally, I'd like him
in a home where I can receive progress reports, etc., and know
    that he is happy again.

If any of you Feliners can help out it would be greatly appreciated.
Realizing that most of you have mulit-cat households, perhaps you
know of someone whom Mocha will be suited for. I end this note with
tears streaming down my face and I keep telling myself this is the
right thing to do. I would be glad to send pictures to anyone
who is interested in taking him.

We are located in Nashua, New Hampshire and I work in Merrimack
MKO1 and my dtn is 264-2935. If I am not at my desk the receptionist
will take a message and I will return your call quickly.

    Barbara,

This must have been so hard for you to decide :-( I hope he finds a new
home soon. This is so sad, but I think you're doing the right thing.

    Take care,

    Barbara-

Do you think Mocha would do well in a farm enviroment? My girlfriend
is thinking of adding another cat.......when she can place the one
which isn't doing well in the enviroment.

Good luck Barbara. This is a terribly difficult decision to make
and one made out of love.

This might be a long shot.

I am involved with the British Ragdoll Club and I have left a note with
the membership secretery that If anyone is willing to stand the cost
of the import/Quarrentine then I will act as the arrangert with you.

I suggest this for two reasons, First is that we have a waiting list
for Ragdoll Kittens that makes "War and peace" seem short and the second
is that as I run the membership lists at the moment I am in prime
position to keep in touch with Mocha and send Pictures and reports back
    to you.

The trip might be a bit hard on him but at least I can vet the new
owners and be reasonable sure he will get a good home.

Drop me a line if you think it's a good idea.

Hee, hee. I can picture Mocha now on the other side of the "pond."
Someone is going to have to teach him manners. Andrew, perhaps Bandit
can apply for the job? In fact, I'll send Kelsey over... he can keep
Mocha company!! :^). The two of them could use a good course in "How
to be a real Ragdoll." Evidently they didn't get the message from
    their mom's!!

All kidding aside, Mocha is a lovely boy and if I didn't have other
cats I'd take him in a second!

    :^)

I think Bandit just talked herself out of a job.

For the last two weeks she has been calling and we can't have her
mated yet but she started to beat up Hector, one of her offspring
    from her first litter.

So I took her to the Vet and he gave me some pills for her. But she
still managed to slash the vet. (I did warn him)

Seriously though, I did some more investigation and the idea is good
and we have left a note with the kitten register but I have discovered
that the quarentine is about $1200. plus the flight.

    However you never Know.

    	All the best

Andrew, I forgot about the quarrentine. Mocha would go nuts all cooped
up. Oh, well, it was nice of you to offer to help. Barbara is in no
rush to give him up; she'll wait as long as it takes for the right
    environment for him.

Regarding Bandit: Better keep her away from her son! Is he old enough
to.... ahem... know what to do... if you catch my drift??!!

:^) Good to see you back in Feline, and glad you decided to breed
Bandit again. She certainly is a beautiful Ragdoll girl. I still have
her pics and also those of her Boyfriend Bigsy. He's sooooo handsome!!

    ROBERTA!!!!

    You can't possibly mean....Nawww! He's her son!!! ;*)

It just reminds me of a friend my mom had across the street when I was
little...She told my mom she couldn't figure out HOW her indoor cat got
pregnant, "she's never gotten outside, & the only other cat she's ever
been around is her BROTHER."!!!!!! Ha hahaha!

My mom had some red-faced explaining to do, while the woman gasped &
    stood there gapping!!

Sheesh, Bon, that's really something! People know better as to not
inbreed amongst themselves (or so we hope!) but cats, heck, when nature
calls... they aren't picky about their partners!!

    That made my night!
