4206.0. "Boarding a cat?" by RAB::REILLY (Come see the violence inherent in the system!) Thu Nov 29 1990 12:35

Unfortunately, I will be away over the New Year's long weekend and
won't be able to bring my cat along. I looked for any keywords relating
to kennels or boarding and didn't find any. So, can anyone recommend a
GOOD kennel/boarding place for cats in the Nashua area?

    Thanks,

    Paul

4206.4an alternative to boarding..?CSS::IVESFri Nov 30 1990 12:2624
We have friend who started a pet sitting service a year ago
and have done fabulous. You might try this instead of boarding.

      PET PALS
Nashua, New Hampshire (they cover Hollis, Amherst, Hudson,
                             Merrimack, and of course Nashua.)

Their business card is so cute has a cute little kitty on it
and the face of a cocker spaniel. Their motto is, " While
you're away T.L.C. for pets in their home enviorment."

Folks who have used them are always repeat customers.

I do not know what they charge.

I've checked all the notes on boarding a cat and am curious about the
cost. $9.50 a day seems like very expensive, especially if you are
going on vacation for a week or more. They do 10% discount for 2 cats,
    whoop-de-do!

What's an average price that you would expect to pay? I've always
heard around $5, but perhaps inflation has kicked in a bit since then?

Thanks, Cheryl (and yes, I know all about having neighbors coming over
to care for cats, plants, etc...)

4206.8The Cat's Cradle in Groton, MA.EXIT26::MACDONALD_Kno unique hand plugs the damTue Jun 04 1991 17:0815
I saw an ad in this passed Sunday's Boston Globe for cat boarding
in Groton, MA. The name of the place is "The Cat's Cradle" and
the description sounded great. It's a big old colonial house with
what they called "cat duplexes" inside. They made a point to say
that cats were not caged in a sterile, cold environment. The house
is adjacent to a vet's office in case of any emergencies and that
they would provide home-cooked meals or gourmet cat-food - whichever
you would prefer for your cat. The prices given were from $4 to $7
per night. Sounds reasonable to me...

Sorry that I don't have the phone number, but the paper got thrown
away. I'm sure you could get it from information, though.

RE: .2

	I called Merrimack Veterinary Hospital
today and they are charging $24.50
for a double-high cage with two perches!
	Can you believe it?

Does anyone know of any place in Southern
NH or Northeastern Mass. where I could
get boarding for my cat for the 4th
of July weekend in a double-high cage
with perches for $10 or less a night?

RE: .8

I called information about "The Cat's
Cradle" and they didn't have a listing
for it in Groton, Mass. It sounds like
a really nice place. Does anyone know
	how I can reach them?

	thanks............................beth

    Beth,

A better option would be to find someone to come into your home and
care for your cat while you're gone. Boarding is a frightening
experience for animals -- strange sights, smells, etc. It would be
much less stressful for your kitty if she could stay home while you're
    gone.

Also, there is a chance your cat can get sick while being boarded. A
great many viruses are airborne and the stress of boarding would make
her that much more suseptible to illness.

I don't live in your area so can't make a recommendation. However,
there might be a Feliner who lives nearby and doesn't have plans for
that weekend who can help you.

    Good luck!
