1662.0. "Someone is Sick in Our House" by NSG022::POIRIER (Suzanne) Tue Aug 16 1988 16:39

Someones sick in our house! I'm not sure who it is, Koko or Mandy,
    or what it could be.

    (This is kind of gross):
Last night, we fed the kitties late, of course they were starved.
Koko ate like there was no tomorrow and Mandy picked as per usual.
Well about a half hour later I found some throw-up (for lack of
a better word) in the hall way. I figured it was just Koko since
she ate so fast. Well this morning there was a undigested poop
in the hallway in front of the bathroom where their litter box is.

Well Koko is at the vets and tomorrow for spaying (I miss her), so we
will be able to tell if it is Mandy or not. But what can this be
Is it serious or maybe just the heat? Ideas will be much appreciated.

    Worried Mom,

Every so often someone throws up at our house. It does seem to
happen that often there will be 2 (sometimes 3) episodes in the
space of part of a day, sort of like the problem wasn't all taken
care of the first time. I have certainly seen the
Holly-eats-too-fast-throws-up syndrome, but sometimes either one
of them just, well, just throws up. If it went on for two or three
days, or happened a lot or (it's hard for me to think of a good
rule of thumb here), then I would worry. Sometimes a food allergy
as well as sickness can cause this. But some amount of occasional
throwing up seems to just be something cats do. I would guess it
happens maybe once a month at our house. Having a hairball that's
hard to get rid of can also cause this, and if that goes on for
a while with no success, I would ask the vet about it too.

Portia has the IEatToFastAndThenPukeMyBrainsOut syndrome. Soemtimes
I notice that she has been eating grass, other times I can't identify
anything. My rule of thumb is more than 4 times or more than 24
hours. Most likely your cat just ate something that disagreed with
    her.

We're having the same problem at my house. Selina has emptied
her stomach 3 times this week. I called the vet and he seems to
think that it has something to do with the heat (we don't have
air conditioning). So we have been watching for any further expelsions.
We've been worried about the kids and the heat. They don't want
to stay in the basement where it is cool. They prefer upstairs.
I can't wait for this heatwave to pass.

For these and other GI problems, we find that a dab of petroleum
jelly on the finger (or the cat's nose, if they aren't fond of it)
will usually ease the problem somewhat. Works great for hairballs.

1662.5Yup, same here - 1 out of 15 puked? who did it?EDUC8::TRACHMANTue Aug 16 1988 21:092
Yeah, we had two cases of the puke_on_the_rug last week - my guess
is heat. keep on eye on the baby and then reevluate.
1662.6I wouldn't worry yet!SHAPES::TAYLORSSharon, Dillan & Sammie in UKWed Aug 17 1988 13:2211

Dillan is always puking_on_the_rug. He always eats grass which
makes him sick..don't know why he does it...probably the same reason
I go out and get drunk!!!

Mind you I think I'd throw up if I ate that tinned stuff!!!

Don't worry unless it carries on
