1559.0. "Cat Orphanage Needs Help!!!!!" by ARTRED::LAVOIE (Doin' the butt! Aww sexy, sexy!) Mon Jul 18 1988 15:21

This weekend I went with a friend to a catshelter in Fitchburg and
was amazed at what I saw. There is (next to the dog officr's place
but not associated with) a cat shelter for homeless abandoned cats.

In this shelter are about forty full grown cats and two small kittens
(kittens are easire to place than cats). They are kept in a fairly
roomy size arrangement, there is also a separate housing unit for
those with feline lukemia. All of these cats have been neutered
and have had all of their shots. Adoption fees for Cats is $20.00
    and kittens are $15.00.

Now here's where the help is desperately needed. This whole
organization runs on a donation basis, unfortunately not many people
know about this job the lady is doing and she is paying out of her
pocket for a lot of expenses. Donations are being sought for the
    following items:

    Sheets, towels, comforters
    Feeding Bowls
    Kitty litter (any kind)
    Canned food of any kind
Cat food (Purina Cat Chow is the only brand she has found not make
    any of them sick)
A couple of medium size pails
    Litter boxes (big ones)
    Trash Bags
Fencing (The stuff sold at places like UCF)
    Fence Posts

I know the list sounds kind of picky but she knows what she needs
and I would like to help her out as much as I can, I think I got
suckered and will be there every Saturday. :-) Any help would be
greatly appreciated more than you would ever know.

Most of the cats are extremely well tempered and are dying for some
tlc. The lady who runs it can give you a detailed personality report
    on every cat.

   			Thank you in advance
                        	Debbi

1559.2Themost important thing and I forgot it!ARTRED::LAVOIEDoin' the butt! Aww sexy, sexy!Mon Jul 18 1988 17:3711
Ooooppps, (insert red face) for those who do not live in the Fitchburg
area please do a send/author and I will make arrangements to pick
up items at your convenience, for those who would like to drop things
off in person I can send specific directions at request.

The donations will all have a card stating the person who is donating
and what they donated so the lady will have an idea. She will not
be there this coming weekend but will be back the following weekend.

    			Thank you,

Debbi - I think you and this lady are wonderful.

Cats Protection League run something similar in this country on
public donations, but it's hard when you run something like this
    on your own.

    Good luck and best regards.

1559.4Cents off coupons?FRICK::TRAVERSTue Jul 19 1988 13:457
How about store coupons for Cat Chow and various kitty litters?
The Sunday paper is usually FULL of this stuff - and we end up throwing
    most of it away.

    RE: -1

I'm sure they would love to have any kind of donation of that sort.
I'm good friends with Debbi and from what she has told me, these
cats sound wonderful. VERY playful. She said that she spend all
saturday afternoon just sitting and playing with the kittens.

Okay for checks (made payable to Purr-Fect Cat-Tel) and
donations via mail they are to be sent to:

This is not the address of the Shelter itself, I will have that
later today. Thank you to those who have responded already. I
can't take all the credit, most of it goes to Pat I'm just trying
    to help out.

Like I said before in the basenote, she can use anything you can
spare with forty+ cats not to mention the calls she gets everything
    has a use somewhere! :-)

1559.7a little help from their friends...RAINBW::PERRYTue Jul 26 1988 13:2225
I am very familiar with this place, and am very grateful to Pat
Brody for what she is doing. She is a wonderful person (and so is
the Fitchburg Dog Officer for letting her set this up on her land).
Dr. Eileen Mulcahy at Central Animal Hospital in Leominster also
deserves a word of praise for her role in this.

Please note, that not only do these guys need the "neccessities",
but they also need some good old fashioned TLC. If you can't contribute
money or food, etc., they can sure use some prime "lap" time.
They are all very friendly, and each has their own little story
    to tell.

Please remember that all of this is coming out of HER POCKET, and
new cats are arriving daily, so if you can provide a cat with a
home (EVEN TEMPORARILY), it will help her immensly (sp?).

Also, for you folks with lonely leukemic cats, who are afraid to
get another for fear of infecting the newcomer, she has FeLV positive
cats who are in dire need of playmates.

For photos of potential adoptees, stop by Central Animal Hospital,
in the Johnny Appleseed Plaza, Leominster.

    THANKS FROM THEM ALL.
