20.0. "Where does your cat live?" by MIGHTY::HERBERT () Mon Jun 18 1984 20:39

I am really interested to know where all of these kitties live that I'm
reading so much about. This information will be helpful if our cats
want to hold a Worldwide conference. On your cat's behalf, please let
us all know where he or she reigns!

As for my cats:

ZEUS, SHADOW & HERA Reside in Merrimack, NH

(Zeus & Shadow were native Californians until 8 months ago)

My whole tribe (Wally, Cory, Cali, Buttercup and Melissa) were acquired
from an animal shelter in Allentown, Pa. and have made two relocations
with me--a brief year in Pittsburgh while I worked on my Masters degree,
and the *BIG* drive up to Manchester, NH, where we have moved across
town once already since I've been here. I had promised them "never again,"
but now it looks as though I may have to relocate closer to Marlboro where
I have recently been transferred. Hate those car rides!

For what it's worth, I'VE heard of Budd Lake, New Jersey. I went to school
in Hoboken. Now how can I relate this to cats? Uh, I worked at the radio
station there and for a while we had a cat living in the station. His name
was DC (for damn cat). I'm not sure what happened to him, but I wouldn't
be surprised if it was not pretty...

Kat was found in Worcester. Tux was found in Worcester (or perhaps a

degenerate into shoving matches. That's probably why they're apolitical.

Richard and Harold were born on a farm near Roscoe, New York (good trout
fishing country) about 5 summers ago, and lived with me in an apartment
in New York City until we moved up here to Massachusetts about 2 years
ago. They share my townhouse apartment in Westboro, where they have
their own bathroom. They use most of the rest of the house as bedroom,
although each has his favorite spots (usually boxes -- ever see a ten
pound cat curled up in a shoe-box?). We hope to buy a farm in a year or
two (assuming the other debts get paid and enough money gets saved for a
down payment and the price of real estate doesn't go sky high..)

A 12 pound solid black long-haired puff of a cat looks just ridiculous in
a 9"x12" box that's 7" deep! Then he crouches down under the level of the
rim, slicks back his ears, slits his eyes and *watches* us - but the whole
effect is spoiled by his long bushy tail hanging out over the edge twitching.
You'd have to see this one to believe it - we were on the floor laughing,
which annoyed him greatly.

My name is Diva. I'm a slim, sexy, solid black tabby (my distant
relatives, I'm told, were from Siam). My daughter, Grizzabella,
Grizzy for short (who is now 9 months old) and I rent our home in
Maynard with a big back yard and lots of woods were I get to play
with the field mice and tweetie birds. Sometimes I capture these
little grey critters and show my mom and dad.

Unfortunately, also living with us is this hairy husky named Tasha.
They think she's great. Personally, I could do without her. I
can't have any more children, but after two pregnancies, I'm just
    as happy.

20.31Hello from IforIOSG::READWed May 14 1986 14:2533
Hi Diva. My name is Ifor. I'm a big solid black and silver tabby
with white paws. My younger half-sister Idris lives with me. She's
a petite orange stripey tabby, and because she's so small, she's
    called Diddy Iddy (daft eh?).

We have a lot of neighbours' gardens to play in, and I love causing
trouble. In fact, just the other day I went into the neighbour's
garden, and while they were watching, I ripped a hole in the netting
over their pond, caught one of their carp, bit of the tale and dropped
the remains at their feet. Daring eh? My mum wasn't very pleased
though, because she had to buy them a new fish.

Normally I bring the fish back alive, so that mum can nip over the
fence and put them back in the pond when nobody's looking.

My sister Idris doesn't bother with the fish, but she does catch
lots of birds and mice. She's very timid, but I make up for her
by being very bold and friendly to everyone.

In fact I'm so friendly that I even put up with that daft dog that
mum brought home. Mind you, I do get a bit annoyed when it trys
to pick me up by the scruff of my neck, but I put up with it licking
    my ears.

Idris gets jealous when the dog licks my ears, because that's normally
her job. Most afternoons we curl up on the back shelf of the garage,
on a cushion by the window, we put our paws round each other, wash
each other and then fall asleep.

It's quite a good life really - especially if it wasn't for that
    stupid dog!!

Cassie, a beautiful siamese, was born in Youngstown, Ohio. She
lived there for about 4 years then moved to Hawaii for a little
more than 2 more (4 months in State required quarantine). She got
restless and decided that California would be a good place to be
so she lived there for around six years. She's now retired in Georgia
where she has resided since the summer of '79.

That makes her 18 1/2 years old. Her life's companion, Gerri, was
put to sleep two years ago at 17 years of age. We must be doing
something right since they lasted so long. (The dog is 13)

Where does Shadow live? Anywhere she wants! She (it) is a 12 year
old Burmese who fits the description in the cat book to a "T".
She also falls into the "attack cat" classification, as she is EXTREMELY
unfriendly to strangers, and drove the poor old woman next door

This is my first time in the NOTES FILES. It is really great to
share with other cat (pet) lovers.
My husband was not a cat person until we were adopted by "Souche"
(pronounced Soo-she). The name is French for "stub". She is a
neutered all black Manx. Her lips, nose, pads on feet and skin
are black. She came to us when she was 5 weeks old and is our "baby".
She was born in Attleboro, MA and still resides there with her family.
Reading all the other notes on attention getting and pranks, they
all fit her to a "T". Souche must have some oriental in her. She
talks continually. She is a joy and is loved dearly. She is only
9 months old. Some days, she is lucky if she lives to see that
evening. But on the whole, she is great to have around even if
    she is VERY bad sometimes.
Since it is the season, we put up our tree yesterday, and she thinks
it was really great of us to bring the outdoors in for her. She
is an outdoor/indoor, more indoor than out.
Well I could go on for days, but will end it for now.
Have a great holiday season all you animal lovers!!!!

Shadow (aka Bungalow Belly), Samantha, Blinky and Ted E. Bear have
consented to live with us in Audubon, NJ. Shadow lived in a big
old house in Haddon Hts., NJ for a while and wasn't too sure if
he liked the strange smell of new construction, but he got over
it when his people added a screened back porch for him (he thinks).
As soon as the weather is decent he parks himself on the chaise
and keeps tabs on the neighborhood.

Blinky was rescued from a miniature golf course where he attached
himself to an animal lover in the person of my son Tom. He was
about 6 weeks old and weighed 12 oz. Due to a throat injury he
couldn't eat solid food at first so the vet had us feed him baby
food which we warmed in the microwave. To this day he still comes

I am Tony a tiger cat with a very soft coat that brings me much pride.
My human adopted me from a shelter in Skowhegan Maine where they
don't take sex education and told her I was male! Can you believe

She is making me live with this dumb puppy that she thinks is cute and
if I could only tell her how much of a fool she is I think she could
    be helped.

When she has the urge, my annoying human will take me for a ride,
which I enjoy. I like to bite her when she is sleeping because she
    makes the neatest swearing sounds.

When _That DOG_ is not biting my tail, I enjoy sitting outside and

sitting spot in in the kitchen window overlooking the driveway.
She loves to walk around on the toilet seat and play in the water

I'm Oscar. Me and my fat sister, Portia, we were born in Westminster,
MA. We were unwanted and forced to live outside. So, at an early
age we realized that we were going to have to find someone to adopt
us. See, the people where we were living wouldn't even have the
common courtesy to take us to a shelter -- they just threw us out
into the wild to fend for ourselves. Anyway, Porty and I decided
that we would find the nicest house in teh neighborhoood, and make
those people adopt us. We found the right house and decided to
go play with the owners every day. That way, the humans would want
to adopt us. It was summer and we had so much fun playing in those
flower gardens, climbing the screened porch, and walking across
the deck. After afew months of this, we realized that we were going
to have to try alot harder to get those people to adopt us. It
was fall now -- we would go over and help this lady rake. She would
get a big pile of leaves built up. And we would scatter them back
acroos the yard. My favorite trick was on the pool slide. I would
climb up the ladder to the top. I would wait until this lady had
an armful of leaves, then I would begin to slide down the slide,
being sure to scratch my claws to get the lady's attention. She
would then run over and catch me before I hit the water. Once October
hit, I started to get worried. Though these people would play with
me, and their son would bring me and Porty some Tender Vittles every
day, we just had the feeling that they didn't want to adopt us.
The first snow came, and Porty began to get sick since she had
Leukemia. So me, little ol' Oscar, had to act twice as cute all
the time around this family. Finally, the week before Christmas,
the son came tromping through the woods and found where Porty and
I had a nest. The boy captured me, but left Porty their. He brought
me inside their house -- I decided against pooping on the carpet
since I wanted to make a good impresion on my new family. I ate
almost a whole box of Kitten Chow. But, I was reall worried about
PortyPrecious. She was soo sick. She was al;so pretty dumb and
when the boy went back out to find her, she got scared and hid.
After 3 days, the boy finally caught her and brought Porty in to
be back with me. I thought life was going to be dandy.

Then the disaster struck. The woman who lived in this house, one
night she loaded Porty and I into the car and took us for this long
drive. We ended up at this house in Pepperell whereupon, this woman
brought us inside, emntioned something to the effect that we had
to live with her daughter in a crumby old apartment. Here we thought
that we got to live in a nice big house with a big backyard and
a big pool and lots of gardens for pooping in, and we end up in
a little apartment in Pepperell with 2 foolish looking people.

But, on the positive side, Grandma didn't say that these 2 people
in the apartment were the live-in servants for us! We got used
to them after awhile (We were pretty scared at first since they
jumped up an down and clapped their hands the first time I used
the litter box), and now life is pretty dandy. They take good care
of us, buy us all sorts of toys, and let us poop in the neighbors
gardens. We keep telling our servants that we want a house just
like grandma's, but they keep telling us that they can't afford
a mortgage, whatever one of those is. I also keep telling mom that
I would enjoy driving in the car is it was a Merceded Benz, but
she says no to that too.

Even though the house in Westminster was nicer, the love we get
    in Pepperell is better.

PS - I told you these were good servants -- they even take dictation!

Hi, I'm Schnitzel. I was born in Shrewsbury and adopted from a
place called Spag's eleven years ago. The human that adopted me
first took me to visit "Grammy" (her mother) then to my new home
in Hudson, MA. It was nice there but I hated Rte. 85. Too many
cars. Guess I complained enough about the traffic 'cause then we
bought "Grammy's" house (I let the human pay the mortgage...I keep
the mouse population down) in Berlin, MA. I really love it there.
I have a big yard to play in and LOTS of fields to hunt in. I always
bring a present home for the human. Sometimes she likes them, but
    usually she doesn't.

There's one thing I haven't quite figured out about human's....why,
when they've given you a perfectly good name to they call you something
else? The human calls me "bumppas" "Baby Bumps" "Baby Schnitz"
and a few others I don't think I can put in here. She also has
the annoying habit of telling me, every time I go outside "Be a
good girl, have fun and stay out of the road". Where's her sense
    of adventure?!

20.52WHITLEY AND SPIFF AT BURGHFIELD NR. READINGSUBURB::COFFEYJ1Fri Sep 30 1988 11:5562

    Hi,

My name's Whitley, my human calls me that 'cause that's the area
of Reading I was born in.

I'm dying to tell you all about my girlfriend (not bad going for
    17 weeks) and My Farm.

My girlfriend actually lived at the farm before her mum decided
she officially lived in the house. She was born in the barn and
one day when most of the humans where off down the pub the one that
was left snuck out to the old farmers barn and took the smallest
    weakest kitten into the lounge.

Her name's Spiff, odd kind of kitty-name but she seems to like it.
Her mum's called Alison, who lives with Tommy, the human who invited
her into the lounge is called Tom (mighty confusing at times -
especially since my name was nearly Thomas!). My mum's Jo who's
good mates with Nina who's getting an alsation puppy soon (dumb
animals). Nina's friends Steve and Verge live with us too and they've
got a placid spollie (spaniel/collie) who's called Wolfie (apparently
after a t.v. show called "Citizen Smith"). Alex lives downstairs
as well. In with all the less intelligent creatures around the farm
(including the mice owls cows and the like) Spiffy and I can normally
find someone to play with; if not I just try to beat her up (she's
bigger than me though so she normally wins.)

My farm is in the middle of the Berkshire countryside, far better
than where I was born in the town. Spiff and I were hoping for
a family when we were older, we're not sure how many more the farm
will accomodate though so Spiff is contemplating family planning.

By the way I'm one of the most hansome beige tabbys with BIG paws
and saucer eyes and a relatively macho square build, my lady friend
on the other hand is a very slim long tailed black and white girl
who looks at time like she's wearing spats and a bow tie she's *nearly*
long haired and has the sweetest white tufts sticking out her big
black ears. (She's good at hissing at Wolfie too, tho I prefer to
wind him up by rubbing against him and purring and pretending I
don't know he's being very impolite when he growls at me.)

With love and purrs to all you suffering town kitties out there,
    Whitley,
    living with:
    Spiff
    Wolfie
    'Puppy to be'
    Ali
    Tommy
    Nina
    Steve
    Verge
    Alex
    Tom

    and

Jo (the one Spliff and I sleep with).

    Hallo Whitley,

Sounds like a nice place to live, we'll be moving out hopefully
very soon, but not sure where yet.

(who live in Whitley Street - whereabouts exactly were you born
    - not Highgrove St by any chance - if so - Tarot's not your Dad;-)

Mimi (6years) is born in Bienenbuettel (guess where this is),
as well as Pueppi (5years). They are both children of Buesi, which
died by an accident last summer and became 13 years.
They live in my little weekend-home 40 miles away from Hamburg as
owners. They are feeded during the week by my neighbour's daughter
but they let me live there during the weekends.

Tabbies are cats with a striped or spotted coat patterns. Sometimes
they are described as looking like "Tigers"

My name is Tex (named after where by grandparents live-Texas) and
my adopted brother is Waxy (don't ask me where that one came from!
I'm a surfer cat from Santa Monica, California...actually the pound
in Santa Monica. My brother is from that very snobby neighborhood,
Marina del Rey, California, but mom got him from in front of the
local grocery store so he has no reason to stick his nose in the
    air!

We all used to live together on Venice Beach (rollerskaters, crazies,
etc.) but mom and dad have recently purchased a nice, big townhouse
in the Valley--yes, we're now "Valley Boys". (Too bad we're not
    girls, huh!)

Anyway, I'm 12 years old now and Waxy is 8. We used to be big slobs,
no energy, no nothing; that was because we lived in a little apartment.
    Since we've moved, we're still slobs (I'm 19 lbs.--Waxy is 16),
but we have stairs to run up and down and a pool outside to lay
by. Since all four of us sleep together, it's the first one up
the stairs that gets the best spot in bed, so we've both had to
    shape up a little.

We like the Valley a lot better than the beach, it's quieter out
here and more normal. That beach life is for the young kitties
I guess! Anyway, we aren't planning a move for a looooong time!

Tex (older, wiser, and the typist in the family)

My name is Heidi. I am a purebred Maine Coon Cat with beautiful
blue eyes. I was born in Presque Isle, Maine (way up theya!) and
was happily rescued from my older bullie brothers and a very large
dog who used to attack me and often! I live indoors now in a small
town south of Bangor called Newburgh in a brand new house with lots
of land and a new baby coming in January. I have spared my human's
furniture (I have no front claws), but I love to tear into Kleenex
boxes and shred newspapers with my still handy teeth. I am going
on 4 yrs old, so I'm almost full grown (won't stay on the scale
long enough to be weighed)! We have just discovered that we have
a few mice that got in when the house was constructed, so starting
tonight, I am going to show my prowess as a mouser!! I may not
have front claws, but they don't know that!!!

                                           ^^
