822.0. "In/Out Transition Part 2" by COGVAX::HEATH () Fri Oct 09 1987 19:40

In reference my note 819 "Help In/Out Transition". I'm not sure
I included the whole story. My reasons for trying to transition
Babe to the great outdoors are twofold. One, I would like her to
enjoy the freedom of being outside now that I can provide that
opportunity for her. The other reason is because she likes
to claw the furniture. She has ruined one living room set and
is working on doing the same to my brand new living room set.

Although I was not always there to discipline her in the last
three years, what discipline I do give her doesn't seem to help.
(I usually crack a newspaper over my knee or speak to her in a
very commanding voice... she will stop then but is back at it
most often at 5:00 a.m....she loves water (what a cat!) so I don't
    this squirting her would help)

    Although I haven't tried it, I honestly don't think a scratching
post will work just from knowing Babe as well as I do. She claws
on every piece of furniture, I don't think she would stick to one
thing. She's beautiful and I love her so declawing seems out of
    the question.

    Any suggestions?

There are a heap of suggestions about scratching posts and how to
get a cat to use them in the replies to note 822. Worth a try.

There are a few notes and replies that youu might want to read.
I did a dir/all/title=scratch and came up with these. It might
    be worthwhile reading....

I'm 99.9% sure your cat would go for a Sisal scratching post (resembles
the bark of a tree in texture for the cats scratching needs)

The FELIX Company in Seattle Washington, manufactures this post
(I don't have the phone #, sorry) and IT'S GUARANTEED!!! Period.

10 out of the 10 folks I've recommended this post to -- love it
for their cats and say IT DOES WORK! A little patience is all that
is needed. My recommendation is that you purchase the "Large Katnip
    Tree" (as it's called).

My friend had an awful problem with her cat destroying just about
every piece of furniture in its path -- until she purchased this
sisal post. Now, in addition to the sisal post, she keeps her cats
claws neatly trimmed on a weekly basis -- which helps immensely!!

Give it a shot! The post and base costs a mere $20 (or so)!!
