783.0. "BONKERS" by WALTZ::BOWEN () Tue Sep 22 1987 12:45

For several months now I have seen references in this conference
to a cat snack food called Bonkers and have wondered just what in
the world they were. Last evening I bought a box for my two cats.

    Now I know.

My cats prefer them to Pounce. Unfortunately they get hard faster
than the Pounce, so use them quick.

My cat prefers Pounce. She goes crazy over them. One of these
day's she's going to learn to open the container herself.

Once when I didn't have the energy to finsh unpacking the
non-perishable groceries, my chief monster found a box of Bonkers
and chewed threw them. I don't know if he could smell them thru
the carton or just recognized the box.

783.4What do they see in them??NOD::TAMIRTue Sep 22 1987 17:209
Honey prefers Pounce to Bonkers. Chauncey won't touch either.
Both boys will come running when I shake the can. One evening,
when I had the Van Grayson boys over, I was sitting on the sofa
munching away at some Pepperidge Farm goldfish (which Honey also
loves). I was tossing Pounces around the room and tossing goldfish
into my mouth. It worked great until I started tossing them the
goldfish and popped a Pounce into my mouth. YYYYEEEEECCHHHH!!

Merlin couldn't care less about Bonkers. As far as he's concerned,
    they could be cardboard.

On the other hand, though, Karamaneh will wake my wife out of a
nearly comatose sleep in order to get her Bonkers. She sits and
_screams_ as only a Siamese can scream.

She has a stronger will than my wife.

Pookie likes pounce over bonkers.. I also buy her the gourmet kitty
treats.. (fish flavored.......).. it's really funny.. we call them
her Pookie treats".. she is on the c/d diet.. so these are little
desserts,, for her.. she also eats Crave as a treat...she even has
a little treat container to keep them in.. so they wont get stale..
(not that they last that long!!!!).. i have to keep some in the
bedroom so that they are accessable when desired.... and in the
    kitchen.........
    regards kate, pookies mom

783.7They may not come when called...PARITY::TILLSONIf it don't tilt, fergit it!Tue Sep 22 1987 19:439
but they come when I shake the Pounce can!

My three all like Pounce (nicknamed bouncie-cat-treats in our
household) better than just about anything. Ain't it strange -
we can be convinced that they've all disappeared for good, but shake
that Pounce can, and they materialize from out of the fifth dimension
    IMMEDIATELY.

Mine do the same! But whether it's Bonkers, 9-Lives treats or Bonkers,
    they come running!

However, the Bonkers seems to make them choke, so they don't get
    them anymore.

So far the only thing Trouble likes for treats is a product called
Cat's Love which I can only find in the local Pet Shop. I tried
Pounce and her response was a look of disgust, so I tried some gourmet
type treats and she wouldn't eat these even if I put them in with
her food. At least with Cat's Love I've managed to get her to accept
(and even occassionally even ask for) brushing.

Mine to will come running at the shake of the Pounce can.
Even if they just see it in my hand they go wild. But a treat
they love (and is good for them) is chewable Brewer's yeast.
I give them one a day and shake the bottle and they come running
    also.

    re:-1
Did you know that brewers yeast makes their whiskers grow?
Strange but true. About 4 years ago one of our siamese cats had
a problem with her whiskers falling out and the vet told us to give
her brewers yeast. We did and after a couple of months her whiskers
    were back to normal.

In regards to the matter being discussed here. That same
siamese(Eskimoe) haz a favorite treat and that is Oat Flakes. She
only eats them at breakfast time but if we don't put them on top
of her food she won't eat her breakfast and will complain loudly
and open the cupboard where the oat flakes are.

I was told that Brewers yeast also gets rid of fleas. It doesn't
kill them, but it makes the cat smell so the flea isn't interested.

I tried it, but it gave my kitties gas. Didn't want to light a
    match in my apartment... ;-)

Bailey and Amelia like pounce but it makes Bailey ill so I don't
    buy it anymore.

They love Bonkers, especially liver flavor (chicken is okay too).
Amelia knows how to open the closet I keep them in and Bailey will
go in and chew through the box to get them. I recently put a chewed
through box inside a shoebox to hide it and Bailey found the shoebox
and has discovered that it doesn't take much to get it opened and
finish chewing the Bonkers box and contents.
