4153.0. "CHRISTIE NEEDS HUGS.....NEED YOUR HELP FELINER'S!" by SWAM2::SZAFIRSKI_LO () Thu Nov 08 1990 19:23

I know we mostly talk fur faces here in this conference, but I need
your help and this conference has brought many new friends into my
life and showed me what kind, caring, compassionate people you are.

I'm writing this note for a friend. Her name is Christie and she is
ten years old. Christie had quite a tough year battling a serious
disease and undergoing major surgery. When she got home from the
hospital she had only one wish and it was "I want to have a puppy
more then anything in the world". So Dad finally got off the couch
and built the fence in the backyard. Then mom and Christie took a trip
to the local shelter to go puppy hunting.

Christie locked her heart and love on a 3 month old Chow. Christie
left the shelter with a huge smile and "Chelsea" snuggled in her arms.
Chelsea turned out to be a wonderful friend...personality plus.

Now one month later, last weekend, Chelsea had to be put to sleep. The
vet said that it was Distemper. Mom did some investigating and found
out that this particular shelter had had a history of dogs with
Distemper and Parvo (sp?). She went back to the shelter to give them a
piece of her mind, all they could say was they were sorry...she said
tell that to my little girl.

Christie is heartbroken. The scene at the vets was a nightmare. She
wanted to be with Chelsea when he put "her baby" to sleep, but because
Christie was already hysterical the vet thought it wasn't a good idea.

So I write this note to all you "cat lovers/dog lovers" in hopes you
will have some nice words and hugs to send Christie's way.

MODERATOR: I WILL CUT OFF ALL HEADERS ON REPKIES BEFORE MAILING THEM
                CHRISTIE.

    Thanks In Advance,

    Lori...Sausha...Misty Rae...Freeway

P.S. I entered this note in the Canine Conference but figured it
couldn't hurt to enter it in the Feline Conference. Everyone
here has always been so great in helping out those who have just
lost a loved one....and I know Christie would really appreciate
          notes from other's who understand.

4153.1Christie, here comes a BIG BIG BIG HUG !CUPMK::TRACHMANEmacX Exotics * 264-8298Thu Nov 08 1990 19:3026
Hi, Christie, my name is Elaine - folks call me E.T. !! I just
wanted to tell you how sorry I am about your puppy. I really
hope someday you will have a nice kitty to hug and love and
    love you back.

HERE IS A BIG BIG BIG hug from me and all of my cats at home!
I told them about you, and they hope you are ok!

Here are a few words - not sure you will understand - maybe your
friend or mom can help you understand. Just remember, we are ALL
    thinking about you!

"Those of us who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our own
Live in a fragile and easily breached circle.

Unable to bridge its awful gaps,
We still would choose to live no other way.

Unable to comprehend life's necessary plan,
We must take our comfort in the knowledge that
Memory is the only true immortality."

      E.T.

Hi Christie! My name is Denise, and I live way across the country
from you. I hope you are feeling nice and strong today. I heard
about your doggy friend and felt very sad for you. I had a dog once
too, for 14 years, but he died of old age. I cried and cried. We had
a little funeral for him. I have had my best friends, kitties, die
sometimes too. It hurts so bad. But I know they are all up in heaven
watching me. So I am strong for them. I have nine kitties now. I
love them so much, I can't have enough kitties! There are so many
animal friends out there that need you, Christie, maybe someday
you can help another dog friend and give him a great big hug! I love
having as many animals as I can around me, they make such good friends.
Right now I know you are feeling very sad, that is the way you should
feel about losing your friend. But you be strong and remember your
dog loves you very, very much!

big hugs from Denise and the gang of 9 cats

    Hi Christie,

I'm so sorry your wonderful dog Chelsea died. You must have loved
her very much, and had a lot of fun times with her. And you probably
feel really sad now, and miss her very much.

I had a cat when I was little, named Cricket, who lived to be 17 years
old, which is quite old for a cat. When he died, I was so, so sad.
I thought I would cry forever! But I like to believe that he is
watching over me, and is in a happy place with lots of other kitties
to play with, and all his favorite foods like tuna and chicken.

You sound like just the kind of friend every animal needs, Christie.
When the time is right, perhaps you could get another animal-friend,
like a cat or a dog. It will be a lucky little animal, whoever gets you!

    We're all thinking about you,

Lynn and my kitties, Molly and Iago

    	Hi Christie,

My name is Judy but my friends here call me JJ. I'm very
sorry to hear about your puppy. It sounds like she was
a wonderful puppy. I know you feel very sad now and wish
she could still be with you. But remember one thing. You
took that puppy out of the cage she was in and gave her
all the love you had inside of you. And she loved you right
back. Even though it was for a short time, you made her
a happy puppy. I'm married now and have a husband and 4
kitties of my own, but when I lived at home I had a doggy
named Mitzi. She still lives with my Mommy and Daddy. I
know when she dies, I will be very sad. But, you must remember
the really good times you had with Chelsea.

I had a kitty named Duke. He was very, very sick and after a
short time, he died too. I miss him very much and wish he
was still here, but I know he's in kitty heaven right now
with whole bunches of other kitties to play with.

So Christie, remember the fun times you had with Chelsea and
someday soon I'm sure another puppy will be just as much
fun and loving as Chelsea was.

Big hugs are being sent to you.

    	JJ and her four kitties

    Dear Christie -

I'm crying too because I know how it feels to lose such a good
friend. When I was nine years old we had to have my dog, Duchess,
put to sleep. She was nine too. I still remember clearly how upset I
was. Two days later my mom and dad took me to the animal shelter
and we got Lassie. Lassie was my closest friend and companion from
the time I was nine until I was 25 yrs old. I'm sure both Lassie
and Duchess are taking care of Chelsea for you now.

We have a special list of kitties and doggies who have died. Its
called the Silver Lining Memorial list and four times a year we
make donations to Animal shelters and other places that help animals.
We do this in memory of the dogs, cats and other animal friends who
have brought love and joy into our lives and who are no longer with
us. I have added Chelsea's name to that list and when the time
comes a donation will be made in her name to some deserving
organizations. She will live on in the good that those folks do with
    that money.

I hope that soon you will have another "furface" in your life. You
    have alot to give.

    Love,
Nancy DC and the Putiput kitties.

    Hi Christie,

My name is Roberta and my family always had both dogs and cats. I know
how attached you become and think of them as people, not just as pets. I
know how it feels to lose one, and how difficult it is to say goodbye
when you know their time is up and they have to leave.

I am married now. My husband and I have 4 cats. Over the past two
years, we lost 2 very beautiful kitties who were very sick. One of them
died naturally, but I had to make the painful decision to let the other
one go peacefully to kitty heaven at the vets. That was a very hard
thing to do. But remember, Christie, that part of the loving is
knowing when it is time to let go. The memories your dog left you will
be there forever. They will never die. So, hold onto them and when the
time is right you will find room in your heart for another pet to adopt
and love. The best thing about love is that you can never run out
and I know you have lots to give.

Take care of yourself and don't be afraid to grieve. That's part of
accepting death. You will know when it is time for another animal
friend to love and the happy times will begin all over again.

    Love,
Roberta (and Kelsey, Murdock, T.K. & Nikki)

    Hi Christie,

My name is Debbie. I had a german shepherd dog that I loved very
much. She became very sick, and my parents had to have her put to
sleep. I'll never forget that day. I was so sad. I cried and cried
for days. I thought that I would never be happy again. I know you
must be feeling the same way.

The only thing I can say is that one day you will feel better. It
will still hurt, but not nearly as bad as it does now. I still
miss my dog, but I know that she is being taken care of in doggie
heaven and so is your puppy.

    Take care.

    Love,
    Debbie

    Hi Christie,

My name is Sandi and I love animals too (all of them). I know how
hard it is to lose a beloved pet too. I had a beautiful white dog
that got sick and had to *go to heaven*. I cried and cried for days.

I now have another beautiful dog to love and to spend time with. She
doesn't take the place of Keisha, my white dog, but she has another
    special place in my heart.

I also have four kittys and take care of two more stray kittys. I
guess what I am trying to say is don't forget Chelsea but do open
your heart to another dog or cat that might need you. Our hearts will
never break from loving too many animals and you sound like you have
a very big heart filled with lots and lots of love.

Chelsea and Keisha and Dukie and all the others are up in heaven
looking down at us and I know they want all of us to open our hearts to
all the unfortunate dogs and cats in the world.

Stay well and just keep the good memories of Chelsea in your heart.

    Love,

Sandi & White Lightning, Black Thunder, DejaVu, Patches & Storm the dog
also Black Beauty & Grey the outside strays.

    Hi Christie

My name is also Sandy and I am owned by 6 little kitties. I love
all animals and have lost many of my little furfaces over the years.
It's so hard to lose someone you love,,,,but please keep in mind
that you gave Chelsea alot of love and he will always remember
    you.

Chelsea is now in Doggie/Kitty heaven with all our loved ones.
I'm sure he is keeping an eye on you and would like you to be
strong during this time. He will always be close to you in
your heart and you have wonderful memories which I'm sure you
    will never forget.

Hopefully when the time comes you will be able to give all your
love to another animal. Animals love humans like you.

    Christie...

My name is Diane and I live down in Atlanta. I have never had a puppy,
but I had a dear little Siamese cat named Cissy who died. I cried for
days (and I am a grown lady!) I thought nothing good would ever happen
to me again because Cissy was gone. But because I love cats so much, I
now have Stanley and Stella. They did not 'replace' Cissy, but they
are very sweet in their own way and I love them.

It is O.K. to be sad and cry for Chelsea. But remember the only love
she ever knew was the love you gave her--even if it was just for a
little while. I hope the right time will come real soon when you know
you want to take home another puppy to love. The more love we give, the
more we have to give. God bless you.

    Diane, Stella & Stanley
