3992.0. "Psychic experiences with Cats..." by MCIS5::MCDONOUGH () Wed Sep 12 1990 17:44

This month's issue of "Cat Fancy" is--in my opinion---one of the best
ever!! There's an article on 'uusual traits' and another VERY EERIE
but interesting article on "Psychic experiences" with Cats...

Has anyone out there in Digital "Cat-Land" had any psychic
    experiences with their kids???

The closest that I can relate is my "familiar"..."Cookie", who will
actually COME to me when I call her in my mind...and this is NO LIE!!

Not really psychic but Sasha will freak me out every now and
then by very intently staring at "something" outside, through
the window. Usually at night too. I'll usually make Cary look
(I'm a wimp!) and there's nothing there. Or she'll just appear
to be staring at something in thin air...or follow something
with her eyes and/or head when there's nothing there..

Oh yeah....I KNOW that maneuver!! You should experience it with 10 dogs
all at once...all 10 heads pop up---20 ears perk up, and wrinkles form
on 10 little faces at once....and there's NOTHING that a human ear can
hear nor human eye can see....DEFINITELY makes the hair stand up on the
    back of your neck!!

re: .1 - sounds like the words to a song I heard once:

"Oh my kitty-cat has her favorite chair
where she goes to lick her hair.
Sometimes she'll just sit and stare
at things that are not even there"

I think what I wrote in 2416 would certainly qualify.

Hmm. I can remember reading somewhere.. that "all animals communicate
telepathically, (which is considered to be a "higher form" of
communication)naturally, while humans communicate "orally" and must be
taught to communicate telepathically..just an aside.. if you will..

Hannah, my flame-point rascal, will also come to me when I call her in
my mind....and runs in saying, MMMMRRRRMPH?, which obviously means,
"What's up?". Of course, all cats see ghosts and other invisible entities
like elves, trolls, and gremlins....I often watch one of the cats
suddenly begin stalking something that is not there (as far as I can see)...

Nicholas has the ability to wake up humans by staring at them....no noise,
just stares at you and "wills" you to wake up. It works everytime - he
uses it on my roommate to get an early morning breakfast on the weekends.
Hannah won't let him use it on me - she likes to sleep late and gets on
his case if he tries it on me. I know he is "calling" us - I remember
suddenly being AWAKE and knowing Nick is waiting...

Cats also seem to know when someone or some animal is near death. When
my dobie was dying, Hannah and Nick stayed with her constantly until we
went to the vets for the last trip, often touching her nose or paw with
their nose or laying against her tummy as if to keep her warm. I know
they knew she was leaving for good when I took Brandy to the car - they
both got up on hind legs at the screen and watched me load her into the
car. They never do that.

I found this incident frightening ... made the hairs on the back of my
neck stand up. It happened a couple of years ago...Fido the cat has
    since died. But, picture this...

...it's 2 am. My dorky dog wakes me up in a full-blown thunderstorm
panic -- panting, whimpering, pacing, trying to get inside my skin. I
went into the kitchen with her...she was lying down against the
counter, shaking like a leaf. After about 10 minutes of this, I was
getting irritated. I wanted to go back to bed.

Then Fido appeared, strolled up to the kitchen bar stool beside me. He
slowly turned his head down, and stared at the top of my dog's head.
Within 30 seconds, the dog stopped shaking, stopped panting, uttered a
huge, contented sigh, and closed her eyes.

Fido got up and left the room. I couldn't take my eyes off him...it was
scary...I looked down, and the dog was sound asleep.

    Fido was an amazing cat.

Something happend quite a few years ago when my grandmother died and it
involves my, since gone, Ting-Ling. I haven't talked about it much but
it was truly an amazing experience. The evening of the day we burried
my grandmother I went home to my apartment after leaving my parents
place. When I opened the door I just knew that something was
different - Ting was very agitated and was crying and slinking up and
down the hall. By the time I got into bed my heart was pounding and
Ting was very restless. In my uneasiness I called my mom and asked her
to come over - I was clearly upset so she came and I asked her to stay
for a bit. She got into bed with me and we were talking and Ting was
still crying and pacing - then there were three loud knocks/bangs at
the front door - Ting was in the hall looking at the door. I
immediately got up turned on the lights and looked down the stairs -
nobody there - we had a tunnel enterence with a 10 foot gate which was
locked - my dad came down from his apartment and wanted to know what
the "He@@" was going on - the noise was so loud and disturbing.

After this Ting immediately calmed and settled down - it seemed as if
even the quality of the air had changed. Yes, he knew she was there
and I'm glad I had someone with me or no one would have believed it.
Seems like people choose the most interesting ways to say "good by".

    This happend in 1976.
