3860.1Cats are difficult to photograph well!ICS::GERRYHome is where the Cat isWed Aug 01 1990 13:4410
    This sounds VERY expensive....

Chanan, one of the most well known cat photographers will be at the
Seacoast Cat Show on August 18th & 19th. His fees are usually around
$30, which includes the sitting, and 6 3x5 prints, and the contact
sheet. If you want to order 8x10's from anything, I think they're
    around $20.

3860.2But 20% goes to shelterDEMON::MURPHYWed Aug 01 1990 13:5019
Maybe not too expensive considering 20% of proceeds will go to the
shelter, Cin.

3860.3A good cause is worth extra $$$...ICS::GERRYHome is where the Cat isWed Aug 01 1990 15:1911
Oops, sorry, I missed that part....sorry!

Your right, as long as something is going to a good cause, then
spending a little extra is well worth it.

Do you know if they are actually taking more than 1 picture....in my
experience, it can sometimes take lots of tries to get a good shot of a
    kitty....they move so fast! ;-)

3860.4Chanan is by far the best cat photographerWR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityWed Aug 01 1990 16:2610
I would use Chanan, and then donate the money that you saved to
the Shelter! That way, you would be giving them a larger donation.
    :^)

Anyone thinking of having Chanan do their cats, you will have to
contact the show management about bringing them in for photos only.
You may have to pay an "on exhibition" fee to get them in, usually
    $15.00

3860.5I also loved Carl!ICS::GERRYHome is where the Cat isWed Aug 01 1990 17:0912
You know, Jo, I was far more pleased with the photograph that Carl
Widmer did than Chanan....he also seemed to be more patient with the
    cat.

Of course, that could partially be the cat....DWeeBs is a camera ham,
while Stripees is a pain-in-the-...well, you get the idea. Stripees
    hates to be photographed.

I'm going to have Chanan do DWeeBs at the Seacoast show.

Carl is pretty good, but his technical know-how isn't up to par
with Chanan. Richard (Chanan) has been doing cats for so long,
that he knows which poses are good for each breed (Birmans should
not be photographed for head shots unless the photographer can get
a white foot in there too) and he also knows how to prevent reflections
in the blue eyes, and what amount of light will show off the facial
features of a seal point face, or a black cat's face.

Carl is very willing to work with you, which Richard isn't always.
Carl is around all the time here, since he just lives in Los Gatos.

Unfortunately, we don't see either one of them much out here, since
they're both from CA. But, I remember with Chanan, both Stripees and I
felt very rushed and pressured. I only got 1 good shot out of all the
pictures he took, and that one was boarderline.

With the pictures Carl took, there wasn't a bad one one the contact
sheet at all, and the ones he chose to print up were really good.

I agree with you though, Jo, most of the very special pictures you see
in the CFA Yearbook, or elsewhere are done by Chanan.

3860.8Chanan photographs THE Best!ICS::GERRYHome is where the Cat isWed Aug 01 1990 20:315
In fact, just glancing at the CFA Almanac, Chanan did the photos for
CFA's Best Kitten, Cat, and Alter this year.

    Pretty Good Stuff!

Update: the sample packages listed in the basenote are just that:
samples. There are also less expensive packages available. Single
photos may be purchased as well.

There's still plenty of time to make a reservation at Croteau
Photography for professional pet portraits -- and remember, 20% of the
proceeds benefit the Humane Society of SHC in Nashua. And don't forget,
the half-price sitting fee is good only until November 1st. Please help
if you can. For more info, write to me on PICA::PHILBROOK, or call the
    shelter at (603) 883-8512.

    Thanks,
    Mike
