3840.0. "Help request from feliners..." by BOOVX1::MANDILE () Fri Jul 27 1990 19:39

Calling all you "rabbit/bunny" Feliners who have raised
    /had rabbits.
I need your help/suggestions on what might be wrong with my
bunny, Fred. He's a Netherland Dwarf male about 1 yr old.
He has gotten very scruffy looking i.e. bodyweight/appetite
good, but his back area right above his shoulders to mid-back
has ridges of fur that looks like a rippling effect from one
side to another. He's gotten very mellow and lets you pat him
now. Either he trusts me now, or he's sick? Do rabbits shed
this time of year, and does it come out this way? Is he just
    shedding?
Is he just shedding? I checked him out, no signs of mites,
dandruff, etc. He gets fresh water everyday, plenty of pellets
,hay and a chunk or two of carrot, apple, whatever. He hasn't been
in contact with my other bunny, she gets the same, and she's fine.
Overfeeding? Something missing he needs? Too rich a diet?
He's sick and I can't tell? He's not sick, just shedding?

If he were a cat, no problem.....AAARRRGGGHHHH!

    Please advise...

Does Fred have a salt wheel? He may just be finding it hot lately.

Re .1 &.2 - Thanx- I tried that note last time but it didn't
work. I'll try it again, though.

.3 - Yes, he has a salt wheel....and funny you mentioned the heat-
another bunny owner said it's probably just the heat bothering
    	 him.

He is fine other than his fur looking "ratty".

Rabbits will molt, which makes their coat look really
ratty - tufts that stick out from the coat and pull out
easily, etc. I forget if it's once or twice a year, but
    	it is normal....

    Lynne,

Have you tried the "small_animals" notes file? I believe it's on
    WECARE. I'm not sure, though.

contact Kristy Gleason. She'll know where it is.

    Thanks to all -

"Fred" thanks you, too! He gets brushed now, and loves it! :-)

    He's only shedding, nothing serious.
