3698.0. "Dolly - our 16 year old " by ELWOOD::PRIBORSKY (All things considered, I'd rather be rafting.) Tue Jun 12 1990 15:36

Certainly not the oldest cat mentioned in the conference, but our
16-year old cat died last night. I got her for my wife when we were
dating. Fortunately for everyone, she went quickly. The kids mentioned
she toppled over yesterday morning, and had a trip to the vet last
night. She had another episode at the vets, but never left the cat carrier
when she got home. She passed away with a heavy sigh about 8:00 last
night. She was healthy and frisky right up until the end.

Dolly was the kid's pet, she was a lap cat, liked Dove Bars (Ice
Cream), fetched paper balls, and all the things that make a cat a
member of the family. It was pretty sad around the house last night.

    I'll bury her tonight.

All we have left is our 15-year old Himalayan. She had a stroke about
15 months ago, and can't get around like she used to.

of sharing your life I am sure she is going to be missed. Losing
an old friend is painful but you will keep the memories of the good
times you had with her. I am glad that her illness was brief and
    she didn't have to suffer.

Sixteen years is a very long life for a cat, and she must have been
very loved and well taken care of to have such a long life. I am
sure that you have many wonderful memories of your time with her.
It is very difficult to lose a member of your family, and I know
how you must be hurting. Take care of yourself, and your family
    in this time of grief.

It's sad when an old friend dies. I lost Georgie Peakms last month and
it still feels strange not to see him there at my feet at feeding
times. I find comfort in knowing he was as happy as a cat could be and
I gave him all the love I could.

The happy part is that now (in time) you will have room to make another
kitty as happy and well loved as Dolly. Hope you look to your rescue
animal shelter when you decide to add another cat to your family.

I am so sorry to read of the passing of Dolly!

She sounds like she was the ideal cat and by passing away at home she
was with the people who loved her (and she loved) the most.

Our condolences - thank God she didn't suffer.

Tony,

Dolly had the best Dad going! I'm really sorry to hear of your loss, but
you've got 16 years of memories that will always warm your heart. When it
doesn't hurt so much, there just might be a little furry critter than can
find another special place in your heart, right next to Dolly.

Very sorry about Dolly. Maybe it will help to know, that I have
just named my Exotic Shorthair kitten Hello Dolly, and I call

I have added Dolly's and Georgie's names to the Silver Lining Memorial
List so that some good can come from your losses. I hope it helps.
I remember when we had Lassie put to sleep at age 16. She'd been my
childhood buddy. 16 years is a long time - and I still think about
    her and smile.

Hope the pain will ease soon.
