3674.0. "What is the most contented sound in the world?" by DECWET::GIRDLER () Wed Jun 06 1990 17:07

The most contented sound in the world? With Snickers (and sometimes Raisin)
it is when he is stretched out on me, or next to me, purring away, and then he
drops off to sleep. At the end of the purr comes the LONGEST most contented
sounding sigh I have ever heard, with a few remaining little brups from the
purr mixed in the middle. I wish I could sound that happy! It must be kitty
heaven.

3674.1Is there is goose in the house??CUPMK::TRACHMANEmacX Exotics * 264-8298Wed Jun 06 1990 17:3123
    What a fun topic!

In my house, you can hear a VERY loud sound - it's a called:

                                 PurSnore

This sound is emitted by Miss Lara the Lady when she is a very deep
    sleep !!

Another unique sound that can be heard at my house is:

                             Hoooooooonk Hoooooooonk

This is emitted by my free-fed Cornish Brown Tabby Rex, Terror !
When he wants to be picked up, or let into a room when the door is
closed, he 'honks' - you sorta have to hear it to believe it !!
It's kind of like living with a goose.

The cutest sound of all, is a litter of five hungry kittens
purrrrrring at the same time when they are nursing from mom!
Sometimes it was so loud, it could be hear in the next room!

E.T. and the cast of thousands (some days it feels like millions)
3674.2the last bed check reportFORTSC::WILDEAsk yourself..am I a happy cow?Wed Jun 06 1990 20:246
in our house, it is the long "PRRRRROWM?" from Hannah just when she
FINALLY settles down in our waterbed at night..she purrs too softly
for anyone to hear it, but she always calls "Mom?" one last time
before curling up and purring herself to sleep. That's the signal
that she has made the last bed check of the night and all of us are
tucked in and her world is safe and secure.

I've got one very loud purrer, Bandit. T.K. on the other
hand was inaudible; you can feel him purring but not hear it.

Lately though, T.K. has been making noise purring! It took
him three years to figure out that he wasn't supposed to just
vibrate. Now that I can hear him purr too... its wonderful!

When my "Cookie"'s in heat, she likes to lay on her back in my arms
like a baby with her back legs spread wantonly, and have me rub her
belly....and she comes out with these sounds that can best be described
as a mixture of a 'chirp', 'purr', and 'mrrow' all combined in one.. It
sort of sounds like a demented cricket...and all the while her eyes are
opening and closing and her little head's snuggling and rubbing against
    my arm...
(We ahven't had her spayed cause she tested FELV+ as a kitten, and we
were told that a trauma--such as the spaying operation--COULD trigger
the d&*%#@*d disease...so we put up with her "antics" every now and
then....but overall it's not as much trouble as it is sort of funny to
    watch her...

    Re: .4

Several years ago I took in a stray that was dumped in my neighbor-
hood. She was an adult, unspayed female, and tested positive for
feline leukemia. She had a wonderful personality and was in good
health at the time; I just couldn't bring myself to have her put to
sleep. My vet also said, as yours did, that the spaying operation
could bring on the disease, or that she might not live through the
operation. After 6 months, my housemate convinced me that Nikki was
very uncomfortable when in heat (she would really yell). Since Nikki's
health seemed very robust, I decided to have her spayed. She came
through with flying colors and lived another 1 1/2 years.

Hope you have many happy years with Cookie!

Well, aside from the usual purrs you can frequently hear Bob
"peeping" his way around the house. He "bobs" around cheeping
and peeping and chirupping. I love it.

Nancy,

so you guys have a "mummbler" too! I know I can hear Hannah mummbling
and humming to herself as she goes about her very important duties of
keep track of all of us...all the time. She patrols the house constantly,
talking to herself, when both Marge and I are home and working about
the house....I can just hear her saying, "if they would BOTH work in
the SAME place, my job would be SO MUCH EASIER...but NOOOO, they have to
spread out all over the place...."

I do love the little talks she has with herself. She also giggles when
she is having fun or happy to see me. I swear it is a sound I've never
heard a cat make and it sounds like a chuckle or giggle.

sigh. the rest of the gang is pretty silent except for Tabby-cat's
typically siamese cry when she wants attention. Ah well, Hannah talks
enough for all of them.
