3554.0. "Sean is missing" by CECV01::SULLIVAN (Sue) Mon Apr 30 1990 17:07

    Last Wednesday evening Sean went outside as usual. We have not seen
    him since. He sometimes goes out in the evening and comes back in
    the morning. He's a one-year-old neutered male cat. My daughter is
    heartbroken (I miss him too) and Kapi is lost without her playmate!
    I must note that we took him to the vet's on Tuesday evening for
    his booster shot. He acted a little woosie Tuesday nite, but
    being Sean we didn't make a big deal of it. There probably is no
    connection, but I can't help but have this haunting feeling that
    there may be some relationship between the shot and his disappearing.
    I called Kitty Angels because we live in Tyngsboro.

    Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

    Ask your neighbors to check any place he might have gotten
    accidentally shut in, like a garage, basement, or shed. This is what
    usually happens to outdoor cats who go missing. Please
    check the local shelters as soon as possible (some keep cats only
    a few days) and be sure to ask to see the sick or dead animals as well.
    Don't reply on a phone check with the shelters, go there in person,
    as there are so many animals that descriptions are not
    dependable. Or possibly the animal control officer or police have a list
    of found animals. Post notices on telephone poles in the neighborhood
    and leave copies with people for several blocks around and
    send them to local vets' offices.

    (I think that by 24 hours he was over the results of the shot.)

    Please let us know how things are going.

3554.2Tell the kids..WOODRO::IVESMon Apr 30 1990 19:149
    Tell the kids in the neighborhood. They know every nook and cranny
    and every animals for miles around. Ask the kids if they will also
    talk to the kids at school.

    Let us know how things are going.

    Hope he shows up soon.

3554.3Hope he shows up soon ...XNOGOV::LISATue May 01 1990 08:1915
    Oh no! I hope he comes home soon! When Percy went missing I made up
    some posters and put them every where - local shop, petrol station,
    my windows etc. I posted leaflets through the doors of all the houses
    in the area. I serched *EVERYWHERE*!! Check out the neighbours sheds
    and basements. Asking the local children to keep a look out is a very
    good idea.

    I hope he shows up soon - I know how you feel. Please let us know
    as soon as you have any news.

    Good Luck!

    You might want to post a reward too - say $25. That will especially
    motivate the kids.

    One day I had burner repairman here. After he left, I couldn't find
    Benjamin. You guessed it - he had climbed into the repair truck!

    The repairman was driving down the highway, and suddenly Benj crawled
    onto his lap! Was he shocked!

    Anyway, this story might give you some leads - perhaps he crawled into
    the open door of someone's car??

    Good luck; I know it's agony when they're gone.

    Thanks so much for all of your advice. We tried everything that was
    suggested, but still no Sean. I just can't imagine what has happened
    to him. My daughter now is asking for a new kitten. I still hope that
    he somehow finds his way home.
3554.9There's still hope!SA1794::DOWSEYKKirk Dowsey 243-2440Thu May 03 1990 20:017
    Don't give up hope yet! My daughter had an indoor only cat that
    got out in the middle of winter, in a storm that was followed by
    several days of sub-zero temps. After 2 weeks we gave up and got
    another cat. The day after the new kitty arrived her first cat came
    back!.

    Yes, don't give up! Keep looking! I know how much it *HURTS* when
    your cat goes missing. Please let us know when you find him!

    sometimes outdoor cats have two homes.. i.e. another home they
    occasionally visit.. I think its kind of like a backup, in case
    something happens to their regular food supply!

    I had a cat about 10 yrs. ago who used to visit with someone else
    on a regular basis!! if you alert the neighborhood, theres a chance
    you could find him in someone elses house!

    Good luck

3554.12How is the search for Sean coming?NATASH::ANDERSONTue May 08 1990 16:426
    We haven't heard from you in awhile....have you any news about Sean?

    Worried...but still hoping that he's found safe and sound!

3554.13does this sound mysterious?SYSTMX::SULLIVANSueWed May 09 1990 16:1821
    We still haven't heard from Sean. I never thought I would miss him
    as much as I have. My daughter was very anxious to get another cat
    that we adopted a 9-month old male from this file. He's a black and
    white long hair who is VERY friendly. Shannon and he get along very
    well and she loves playing tag games with him. Kapi is still a
    little suspicious, but the introductory period went very smoothly.
    As long as he leaves her alone, she doesn't even care if he is around.
    She remains her aloof self.

    Shannon made a startling conclusion the other day. She heard about
    another cat in our immediate neighborhood that has disappeared. He is
    also black and white. As a matter of fact when we first moved in we
    used to let this other cat in thinking that he was Sean. Then another
    neighbor told her his black and white cat disappeared last year. Not
    wanting to over react, I asked her to find out how many other cats have
    disappeared that were not black and white. I'm usually not suspicious,
    but this does seem to be strange. What do you think?

    In the meantime, Tyson (our new cat) will stay inside and play with
    Kapi.

    I hope you find him soon. Perhaps he and sneakers have been out on a
    wild night together and they'll both come home soon! I'm worrying
    for you too!

    There are an unusually high number of black and white cats in
    New England so this may just be coincidence. I hope so.

    	I hope Sean comes home soon. I was lucky, my Sneakers just
    came back last night. 'Tis the season for Tomcat prowling, so with
    any luck at all Sean's just out having a good time and will return
    when he gets hungry/thirsty enough. Our prayers are with you and
    Sean!

    Thanks for your concerns. I still have hope that Sean will come home.
    I once had a cat that was stuck in a neighbor's attic for a month! She
    survived on mice (ugh)

    Bob's note about Sneakers really threw me. The other cat in my
    neighborhood who disappeared last week was named Sneakers. He also
    just returned home. We saw him on his back steps this morning. But
    Bob doesn't live in Tyngsboro.

    Must've been a Sneakers' convention this week. That explains it.

    Anyway, our thoughts are with you and Sean. Best of luck.

    I am so sorry to hear that Sean hasn't shown up - doesn't sound good,
    does it?

    Keep the faith - sometimes they do miraculously 'show up' - I'll keep
    hoping the best for you and your family.

    How is your daughter fairing with the new 'kitten'?
