3527.0. "Wanted: Male mate for my cat" by SLSTRN::MILLER () Tue Apr 17 1990 15:48

    Hi,

I was looking for some information. My blue point Himalayan is
2 years old and she is in heat. This is the first female cat I
have had, so I am not familiar with the times a cat
    goes into heat.

I would like her to have one litter. Is someone interested in
having their males (same kind) meet my cat? What is this procedure
for breeding -- I mean does the male cat owner keep one of the litter
and what if there is one cat? Please help. I would like her to
    have a litter soon.

Please send mail to SLSTRN::MILLER. I can't get into notes very often.
    Thanks, Amie

3527.1PLEASE READ NOTE #1109SMEGIT::ROSSITue Apr 17 1990 17:1010
    AMIE,

You might want to take a look at note # 1109. It has 45 replys it is
rather lenthy but please read through the whole note it will give you a
better understanding of this most complex and sensitive issue. The
first few replys may seem unreleated to you questions but please
continue to read on. A lot of food for thought.

    Valerie

3527.2More pointers to other notesWR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityTue Apr 17 1990 20:3441
    Amie,

I did a keyword search on breeding and came up with the following
list of topics that relate to breeding issues:

    345
    352
    1099
    1109
    1147
    1173
    1361

    2293
    2695
    2712.33
    3004
    3197
    3289
    3335
    3338
    3396

Not all of these will relate to your request for a stud, but they
will give you lots of information about the types of issues that
may come up in choosing a stud, the pregnancy of your cat, the
delivery, possible complications, raising the litter, and a mutlitude
of other things. Being a breeder myself, and knowing now what I
do, I can say that breeding your cat isn't something that should be
entered into without lots of thought. Many, many things can and do
go wrong. Think about it before rushing into breeding her. She
will get through this season, and will undoubtedly come back in
again if she isn't spayed, so please don't rush into breeding her
just cause she is in season now. Take some time to learn about
your breed, and how to select a stud that is a good representative
of your breed, as well as in perfect health. Breeding is a prime
way for diseases to be spread from cat to cat.
