3522.0. "m/f buddy for Tiger ?" by SCCAT::STEINBECK () Thu Apr 12 1990 21:30

         I have a 11 year old neutered male and I think he gets lonely
    when I'm gone and I would like to get him a buddy. Would it be
    better to get a female or male kitty? Whichever one I get, I
    will have him/her spayed/neutered when he/she is old enough.
    I was wondering if anybody had any opinions about whether a
    middle-aged male would get along better with another male or
    would a female be better?
         In the past, I have had other cats at the same time as Tiger
    (my boy) and he has almost always gotten along well with them.
    There was one exception, an adult female, that Tiger never got
    to like but she was neuotic IMO. Our neighbors used to have a
    rabbit that they would let wander around the neighborhood and
    Tiger loved the rabbit. I'm concerned because Tiger has been
    the only kitty for a long time and the main reason I am considering
    getting another kitty is for him.
         Anyway, any input would be appreciated.

    All my cat psychology books say that a neutered male is the easiest
    to deal with trying to introduce a new cat to. They say that it
    doesn't matter whether the new kitten is male or female, as long
    as the introduction is done properly.

    Jo,
    	Any hints on successful introductions?
    Also, you are in my area - Santa Clara. Do you know of any kitties
    that would like a great home?

3522.3As a matter of fact...WR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityThu Apr 12 1990 23:0420
    Nancy,

    It just so happens that I do know of some kittens that may be needing
    a home (don't I always?).

    I was at my vet's office this week and she had a litter of three
    kittens that were about 16 days old. They were abandoned and
    mommy-less, so my vet and her staff have been looking out for them.
    They are all cream, one or two with white feet (if memory serves),
    two girls and a boy. Let me know if you are interested, they are
    absolutely adorable!

    I have lots of hints for successful introductions. I can get long
    winded on that topic, so send mail if you want some help with it.
    Also, I think that there is a keyword for introductions. You might
    check those notes out, lots of good information.

    Glad to hear of another "local" noter!! :^)

3522.5The search is the fun part!BOOVX2::MANDILEFri Apr 13 1990 12:507
    Sounds like your kitty would accept pretty much either
    a boy or girl. Now you get the fun of finding a new
    kitten/cat!  (I'm envious!)

    OOOOHHHHH, cream colored kittens, they sound sooooo cute!
