3510.0. "Orange tiger cat up for adoption" by ACESMK::POIRIER () Tue Apr 10 1990 20:54

Having someone in the family in the real estate business I tend to
always find out about these abandoned cats. The story is nothing
new... the owners moved out last fall and left behind their cat of 5
years. Supposedly the neighbors volunteered to take care of it. Just
recently the cat tried to reposess his old home, and the new owners
realized the cat was not being cared for at all. One of his ears was
frost bitten and he was extremely hungry.

The new owners of the home have a tempermental cat (I understand cuz I
have one too) who is upset with this new comer. They are temporarily
keeping him in their study & garage and are feeding him. She also just
took him to the vets for all his shots!! The vet had all his records
from his previous owner - he is healthy.

Kitty details: 5 year old, male, neutered, all shots, orange tiger,
loveable lap cat. His name is Flash!

Please help me help him and his temporary owners. The cat is located
in Merrimack, NH but I have no problem driving him up to 2 hours away.

Call me at DTN 264-4948 or home (603)424-4759
You can also call Holly who currently is housing flash, at 880-8439.

    Thank you,

    Suzanne

P.S. This is cross posted in the adoption note. I figured this
deserved a note of its own. I just talked to Holly and she is getting
upset because she doesn't think we'll be able to find him a home.

3510.1Do the original owners go scott free?CSC32::K_KINNEYTue Apr 10 1990 22:1814

Suzanne? I HOPE you find him a good home with people
who will love him. I wish you luck. However, isn't there
something else that can be done with the original family
who had the cat? Meaning, aren't there laws that say this
kind of stuff is not to be done? Can they be prosecuted
or otherwise let know in a firm (but legal) way that this
behaviour is NOT going to be tolerated? If they moved,
there must be some kind of forwarding address (hopefully).
Just asking. That kind of irresponsibility gets my dander
    	really UP!

3510.2Find the Owners and tell 'em!BLKPUD::WARNESGWed Apr 11 1990 09:0715
Before we all launch into attack mode on this poor cat's former owners
perhaps this is a case of misplaced trust in the neighbours. It's
possible they would be very distressed to hear about their former pet's
predicament and would be willing a)to take the cat back (at least on a
temporary basis) or b) make more solid arrangements for the cat's
welfare. I personally think that tracing the former owners and
making them aware of the situation is the best idea.

BTW :- I'd love a second orange tiger, but a) I live in the UK and b)
the size of my new house makes FELINE_FREE_SPACE = 0. Best of luck
with this and let us know how you get on.

Another problem that crops up with outdoor cats is that the commotion
of the move upsets them and they take off for a bit. So, when the
family is ready to get into the car and leave for the new house,
kitty is no where to be found. They may not know what is happening,
and may want to have the kitty back.

Flash has been moved to Kitty Angels in Tyngsboro. For anyone who is
still interested you can find him there. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just to update you on the original owners. I talked to the listing
agent of the home since she knew the sellers. Flash was originally
the seller's son's cat. The son moved out leaving Flash behind. When the
seller moved out he gave responsibility over to his neighbor who in turn
never took care of flash. The seller just moved across town - I may look
them up - but I'm not sure they care of Flash's well being.

At least Kitty Angel's is taking care of Flash. She felt Orange Tigers
were usually pretty easy to place. I hope so.

I SAW FLASH!!!!!!!!! In fact I cuddled him in Boxboro this weekend.
He's Sooooooo soft and such a love. Kitty angels and Hopkinton Humane
were at the show and I always make it a point to go visit the shelters.
Flash is a love. I hope someone will take him soon.

Would it be possible for you to send me a snapshot of Flash? I used
to own an orange tabby (14 years), but he died last summer of kidney
    failure.
