3485.0. "a perfectly silly question" by DYO780::AXTELL (Dragon Lady) Tue Apr 03 1990 21:11

Does anybody besides me have this overwhelmng urge to list their
    "kids" on the census forms?

    'Course I wouldn't really do it :>)

Well, I really *should* list Karma. I mean, anyone [oops, anycat]
who gets a pre-approved credit card in the mail surely deserves
    special people-treatment.

Guess I better list my whole crew, afterall, they did receive their
Publishers Clearing House $10,000,000 sweepstakes entry form a few
    months back.

3485.5TOPDOC::TRACHMANExotic Babies are soooo CuteWed Apr 04 1990 13:076
Funny you should bring that up - I was really put out that they
only ask for DOGS! Nothing mentioned about CATS. BUT, then I
thought that if they know how many I have, it could present a
different problem, so I figured I'd let will enough alone.

    re: 1040 - YEAH, sigh
3485.6Boy would it help!PFSVAX::PETHMy kids are horsesWed Apr 04 1990 13:084
The hard part is getting the required social security number! If
only we could, I have eight "kids",2 horses,2 dogs,4 kittys.

3485.7An embarassing phonecall would come.......BOOVX2::MANDILEWed Apr 04 1990 13:288
I have seven "kids", 1 horse, 4 cats & 2 rabbits. The only
prblem listing them on the census is that I would use more
than the seven spaces alotted, and the census would call to
get the rest of the "family" names.
I don't think I could convince them they are my "Kids". :&>!

I should think anyone(cat) that gets as much junk mail as my two should
be listed on the census. Panther got an application for Platinmum(SP?)
Amex, I refused to mail it in for her. Sure would be a hoot to fill
    out the application though:

Occupation: Madam in a cat house

    	Annual income: All of it

marital status: If your rich, I'm single

Charecter references: HRH Pookie, Argus J. Pussycat Esq, (Her
lawyer), Guido the doberman, Her loan shark.

    	Name: P. Jane Spingler

They really should let us list them on the census, then we might be
able to get them on the 1040!!!

Felines, Stand up (or lie down) and BE COUNTED!!!

O.K I confess.. I did include a "little note in my response
about including "kitties.."but I did not copmose the verbage
HRH did.." I also informed them that shoudl they have
any questions or concerns they may call me..
I will also confess to some thing else.. Ya know that "awful
Phillips Light bulb commercial.. well I wrote to them tooo..
they sent me a "very nice Letter of empathy.. note not an
apology.. along with a CASE of Phillips lightbulbs. We do not
use Philips lightbulbs in my house.. we sent them to
"charity"... Pookie and I wanted to do other "things"
with them.. but that would be very unlady like.. so we decided
that charity might be answer.. that allowed us to feel better
kinda.. and "someone from Phillips called me to ask if I had
recieved" thier "token. I replied.. Yes, and I donated to
a worthy cause.. as I will not use products like that in my home..
I told that person.. they should remove that commericial form
the circulation asap.. they did admit, they had recieved other
letters and the like and they were "reviewing the situation,,
you will note that comemercial does "air " too frequently"...
Kate.. who still does not use Philips lightbulbs..

    	Did I miss something?

Kate, can I ask what you're talking about? We went from
claiming our kitties on our taxes to a Philips lightbulb
    	commercial! =)

Oh, and what commercial is this? I dont' know that I've seen
    	it?

I'd glad someone wrote in about that Phillips light bulb commercial.
They have someone vacumming near a cat, the light bulb burns out, and in
the darkness we hear that the vacumn has run into the cat.

Re .14: The 1040 is the most commonly suffered species of income tax
form in the USA. Most Americans feel faintly ill at the mention of
    those digits.

Mods: I hope you don't mind me posting this..if it's not ok
    	please delete.
Not really pertaining to cats but to injury done to animals..

Did anyone watch "Unsolved Mysteries" last night? There was
a story on there about a woman who bought a 110 acre farm
in Missouri (I think) and built a kennel to house stray dogs.
Well someone didn't like her or the animals as they began
terrorizing. One night this "person" shot 3 of the dogs, killing
two and injuring one. (he turned out ok) Then a time after that
the whole kennel was set on fire. Her hired hand was only able
to rescue one of the dogs....59 OTHERS PERISHED IN THE FIRE!!
She has since rebuilt her kennel and this time it is attached
to her house. She had an 8' masonry wall built and has two big
dogs who don't like people to stand guard. She is still receiving
threats but she refuses to move. Fortunately nothing as disastrous
as the fire has happened again. The police have no leads on it.
But I hope if/when they do find this "creature" they prosecute him
to the full extent of the law. Burning to death poor defenseless
    	creatures is totally heartless.

BTW - the kennel is now home to over 150 dogs.....

3485.17I saw it too!!AIMHI::MCCURDYThu Apr 05 1990 16:0211
Yes, I also saw "Unsolved mysteries".. I did see most of the
story you are referring to.. except for the fire part, I changed
the channel, I then switched it back afterward,, that was sooooo
sad, a friend of mine called me last nite, she had also
watched it, and she tried calling their 800 number,
(no she does not have any clues), but she was wondering
if although the lady had rebuilt her kennel, if their was
away to amke donations to the kennel and in memory of
those poor puppies.. She was unable to get thru. I also
hope they get those people who did that..

    	Kate,

Yes it was depressing. I found myself almost in tears.
Especially when she started talking about it and started
crying. I don't even want to think of the mental anguish
that wonderful woman went through. I think she's very brave
not to give up and keep on doing what she's doing.

The donation thing is a wonderful idea. I didn't even think
    	of it.
