3442.0. "Furballs" by SHAPES::WILLIAMSJ1 (Don't blame me.......) Wed Mar 21 1990 10:34

    Why does my cat keep throwing up everywhere with furballs? Is this
    anything I can do to relieve the situation. I have started to brush
    her but I heard somewhere that by giving them butter it also helps the
    digestion.

    Any ideas? Oh by the way, she is eating grass as well to make herself
    sick.

3442.1Get LaxatoneCRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds - DTN: 297-2313Wed Mar 21 1990 11:079
    Get some Laxatone or Petromalt - come to the Hudson show this weekend
    and buy it from Hadleigh House. Besides, You haven't seen my
    new little fold yet. Brushing will help - a bath might help more,
    but the biggest help will be the laxatone. Follow the directions -
    if the cat is having problems with furballs you start out by giving
    a more frequent dose, then once the problem is under control you
    give a maintenance dose.
      It works.

3442.2Try VaselineMIVC::MTAGWed Mar 21 1990 15:348
    I've tried the stuff for furballs from the vet - the stuff cats are
    supposed to *love*. Well, my guys HATE it! However, they love
    Vaseline so I give them that and they seem fine. I have very few
    furball problems these days. The vet was surprised they like Vaseline
    (note, they don't like the generic stuff) and was not upset that I was
    giving it to them. I've also heard mineral oil is good.

3442.3Here comes the pump, guys.....BOOVX2::MANDILEWed Mar 21 1990 16:416
    I have two that *adore* the Laxatone, and beg for more. The
    other two hide when they see the pump coming. The newest
    tube is now styled like pump toothpaste. A lot less on the
    messy side!!

    I have always known that you shouldn't give the Petromalt or Laxatone
    just before or right after a meal, but I just learned why. It coats
    the stomach and intestines, and can interfere with the absorbtion
    of the nutrients from the food by the body. So, now that I *know*
    why this is so important, I am going to be much more careful about
    when I give the stuff.

    Thanks very much.

    I'll try to get the stuff over here. Fairly that, vaseline or
    something.

    Ya, Flame and Bonnie will eat Petrolax (the stuff in the pump
    bottle) as long as Ikeep giving it to them, but I have to force
    it on the rest. Oh well....fortunately we don't have too many
    furball problems, except for Mao.
