3413.0. "killing time!!" by BRAT::GERMANN () Mon Mar 12 1990 19:07

    Well, life is never dull with 4 cats around. And we have a sort of new
    wrinkle that really has us baffled. So if any of you can explain this
    one, we'd really appreciate it!!

    I have an older chime clock that sits on my mantle. It has a lovely
    chime that rings the hour, and once on each half hour. So what does
    that have to do with cats? Welllllllll...........

    Lately, Esmarelda has had a strange reaction to this clock. It doesn't
    happen every time it rings, but when it does, it sure is funny.

    Just before the clock chimes, you can hear the noise of the weight
    inside dropping. On that cue, Essy will head pell mell for the clock.
    She proceeds to sit ON TOP of the clock while it rings. If she isn't
    in the room when the chimes start, you can hear the dainty(?) footsteps
    (somewhat like an elephant charging) running from wherever to take a
    flying leap and land on top of the clock. And there she roosts until
    the chiming is done. She will then stare at the clock for about a
    minute, then sit herself next to it for a few minutes more, then give
    that look - you know, the "Who, me?" look - and head back to whatever
    she was doing. Now, if you happen to be the poor person sitting in the
    chair next to the fireplace which is the ladder to the mantle, you
    might want to move quickly as the hour approaches!!!

    So, what is it that Essy is doing? Does the noise bother her? Does
    she hear a noise that we don't hear? Does she expect it to take off on
    her?  What is going on?!?!?!?

    Ellen (who also has a cat that loves to be vacuumed - are there any
    normal cats?)

3413.2she's pickin' up good vibrations! (ooooooh, sorry!)SMURF::LONGOMark Longo, Open Systems GroupMon Mar 12 1990 20:154
	I bet Essy likes the vibrartion the clock makes when it is chiming.
Put your hand on it when it chimes and see what it feels like!

    Who knows how a cat's mind works..........
3413.4We owners are so well trained.....BOOVX1::MANDILETue Mar 13 1990 13:099
    I have a cat that loves to be blow-dried! He hears that dryer
    turn on, and he is at your feet in seconds. If you don't give
    him a blast, he climbs on your leg and cries. He likes it best
    when you roll him over and blast him on the belly, while rubbing
    it in.

    Silly things these cat's train us to do!

	My little Siamese twins love to be brushed in the morning. They kept
	bugging me while I was blow-drying my hair, so I brought their brush
	in and do them too. C.C. especially, sits up like a little princess
	while I brush and 'dry' her back. Jenny often tries to bite the brush,
	but won't move off the vanity until I'm done with her :^}

3413.6Vibrating Willy...AIMHI::SJOHNSONTue Mar 13 1990 13:445
    My Willy loves the vibration of our Interplak toothbrush and also a
    muscle massager that we have. He goes crazy when he hears it and tries
    to bat it without touching it. It's real funny!
