3412.0. ""Mirror - Mirror"" by NATASH::ANDERSON () Mon Mar 12 1990 17:51

Has anyone out there got a fur-face - that loves looking at themselves
    in the mirror?

We have held Tiffany to a mirror - but this must be her first life -
because she doesn't have a clue. Otis - on the other hand - is adding
another dimension to his (our??) life!

The other morning my daughter was blow drying her hair and - in the past
her doing that has frightened our kittens/cats right out of the room - but
not Otis. He actually let her fluff some of his fur with it, he'll try
ANTYHING onece. Then, she held him in front of the mirror and....
he got curious. His eyes just got 'fixed'....no matter which way we
turned his body - his eyes stayed glued to his image in the mirror. It
was so funny, and at one point he had that 'smile' expression that kitties
get when they are amused. He DEFINATELY has an ego - but this was just
    so cute.

This morning I woke up to see him sitting on my bureau - staring at
himself...making that *sound* (you know, the one when they see birds
flying outside and they are ready to pounce)...he really gets into
    himself.

It kept him quiet for about 1/2 hour....he didn't even pester me to
    eat!

Has anyone else out there got an 'ego' cat?

My guys usesd to look at themselves in the mirror more when they
were younger but what does happen now is that they kind of scare themselves
during one of the chases througout the house when they pass the
full length mirror in the bedroom. All three of them will be engaging
in one of those 100mph races/chases (sounds like a hurd of elephants)
down the hall - then they cut a sharp left and end up in the bedroom
    - each taking a section of the room for the stand-off - one ends
up by the mirror and scares itself to death - back arched - tale
blown up as well as hacks up on the back. It so funny to watch.
Of course afeter said cat calms down, the chase continues -

What would life be like without this wonderful entertainment???

Limoges has an ego the size of Texas, we often find her gazing at
her reflection in the mirror. She doesn't chirp or anything, just
looks at herself. She is also the only cat we have that likes to
get on top of my dresser, climb onto the wooden jewelry box, and
then gaze down her nose at the mere cats running around on the floor.
I swear that this behavior started the day she granded!! :^) We
like to call her our little "Prima Donna".

The Lovely Pip will walk up to a mirror and rub against it. I've also
seen her groom herself in front of it.

MIRRORs.......REALLY spook Scruffy. She wants to know where the cat,
which looks like her, goes????? She also can't understand where I go?
and How come I'm here, right in front of her and then I'm there? She
really gets into most any reflection and gets upset when my reflectin
    disappears. It's fun.........

Squeeky doesn't know that I know this but....she looks at
herself in the mirror every morning...she sits on my vanity
while I'm putting my makeup on and pretends she's visiting
me, purring, rubbing the mirror frame, etc...but I KNOW that
she sneaking looks at herself when she thinks I'm not watching!
She blew her cover in the bathroom yesterday, I was using
that mirror to fish (yet another) cat hair out of my eye, and
she got up on the sink, streeeeeetched up, put her paws on the
mirror, and pretended to try to see what I was doing...but she
was looking right at herself in the mirror the whole time...and
    	she doesn't think I know....

Yes indeedy, HRH is indeed a mirror kitty.. she loves mirrors,
upon returning from Miss Desirrees(her groomer).. we imediately
accept praise and compliments from our loyal subjects.. then it
is off to the buodoir to check ourselves out in the mirror, we
preen and fluff up our ruff, tail, paws.. and glance at ourselves
for quite awhile, then we go over the water bed and check ourselves
out in the mirror in the headboard, it is more comfortable there,
I mean really, HRH stand on a wooden surface, that would be
toooooo uncomfortable.. hmm.. and Yes, Preshie is following
in HRH "pawsteps".. SHE also enjoys mirrors, but it not
used for the same purpose.. cuz there is kitty that lives in there..
OH MY... we are very mystified about that.. we use the bathroom
mirror alot.. ii is easier to get up there.. She has discovered
the "mirror on the waterbed, and she saw 2 kitties other than
    herself..
and they looked familar, very, very familar.. tee-hee.. Happy
is curious about them, but she is like Preshie.. it is a toy..
But HRH is very serious about MIRROR gazing... tee-hee

3412.9I stand corrected..AIMHI::MCCURDYTue Mar 13 1990 17:376
I stand corrected, I would not want to mislead you al.. Pookie
is a mirror kitty every day.. not just after trips to the groomer..
she checks herself out all the time.. at least 3 times a day.
after every grooming.. afterall, if she were to read this,
she would probably sue me for "misrepresentation.."

Is Pookie a tortie on white (or at least a tortie)? She sounds too much
like The Lovely Pip in the mirror department (and a few other
    departments) to be anything else.

    Re. 2

I laughed so hard when I read your story. Otis does the 'helicopter
flip'. He'll be standing totally still and then Tiffany will hunch
down - and run as fast as she can to scare the h*ll out of him. His
tail grows three times it's size, the fur goes up on his back and then
he jumps staight up (about 1 1/2 feet) and at the highest point does
a 360....lets out this 'yell'....comes back down to earth and then the
chase is on. Tiffany then falls to the floor (playing the 'I'm too
old and fat to run' routine) and Otis falls for it every single time.

I have two chairs that I drape a blanket over - and they each have
their own little 'house'....but Otis get's his when Tiff walks by -
totally unaware - and Otis' paw reaches out from the blanket and
then scares the h*ll out of HER.

They are so much fun to watch. I wish I had a camcorder so I could
send their antics into 'America's Funniest Video's'.

Pookie is a "smoked tortie.. she also has copper eyes.. and
if her Auntie Cin is reading this.. she will tell you that
Pookie.. is and I quote"typical smoked Tortie.. Right Cin.
and the new baby is definitely learning about the finet things in life
from "the Mistress of the GOOD LIFE" herself.. she is a real
genteel lady......occasionally she will even request to be
"carried" to her dish,, she also has the "vapors" when
when she have guests in.. the only 2 people she has ever let
"hold her" and she did not have an "attack" are .. DRUMROLL
PLEASE.. Auntie Cin Gerry" and Aunt Sue Spingler..
She even PLAYED for Aunt Cin.... with a mousie no less..
and she still plays with all the mousies Aunt Cin sent home..!!!!

Careful, she may sue for spoiling her image. Pip's attorney, Argus J.
Pussycat, Esq would slap a lawsuit on me if I ever made such an
admission in a public forum. :-)

Cardigan preens in front of the mirror in the morning, giving herself a loving
top-to-toe once over. Some mornings she finds her reflection so exquisite that
it gets a dainty little kiss after her inventory. However, once her morning
ritual is completed she doesn't venture near a mirror or fuss with her
appearance until the next morning. After all, she has a very busy schedule
of shoe-molesting and laundry-writhing to accomplish before settling down to
her well-earned rest.

Milo spent two years trying to locate That Other Cat he kept seeing in the
mirrors all around the house. But about two months ago, he became utterly
disgusted with the d*mned anti-social rascal. So when he chances to catch sight
of him, Milo merely turns 180 degrees and does the bottle-brush tail routine.

Rick swears that this is kitty AMSLAN for 'kiss my *ss!'

3412.16Purrrrrrr.. I am sooooo prettyAIMHI::MCCURDYThu Mar 15 1990 16:3118
.15.. this is true.. Pookie will not even **** consider breakfast***
until she has been groomed which incudes not only brushing, but her
teeth brushed, her face washed etc.. after that she goes to her Mirror
to check herself out, by this time Happy has eaten her breakfast
as well as Pookies..heh-heh..and now that wehave Precious,
Precious and Happy are eating when this is going on.. so they
finish theirs, and then they finish Pookies.. it is a hoot,
cuz Pookie watches me get their beakies ready,, and she wants
hers put down at the same time I give Happy and Preschie
hers.. she sniffs hers.. has a very dainty sip of water,,
and then walks down the hall..
so we can begin the " morning ritual, now once she is all
set,, I "wrestle with Happy" so I can groom her, and then I
do Preschie,,, who equates it with playtime.. tee-hee..
and Pookie "supervises" work,, she even checks Precious
out after I am done.. it is a riot.. then everyone
    settles in..
    Kate..

It's true Pookie does check all work done on her um... I mean Happy's
baby. Woe betide the groomer, Auntie or Mummie who does not meet the
    strict standards of our Empress.

Also, Pookie is not vain, not our gentle aristocat, she is just certain
that she is the best there is!

    will let me hold her!!!
