3347.0. "Do I look like a hair-matt!!" by CRUISE::NDC (Putiput Cattery - (DTN: 297-2313)) Mon Feb 19 1990 14:28

I don't want to hear E.T. complaining about Lil's hairdressing
exploits any more :-) Bob has taken up a "hair habit" that makes
me wish he'd take some lessons from Lil. This usually occurs
after my 4am trek to the bathroom.
First he climbs over my head, then settles down behind me, (I'm
usually laying on my side), starts patty-pawing with just enough
claw for it to feel good.....

Then he grabs a hunk of hair in his mouth and YANKS!!!

Needless to say this gets him thrown out of bed very quickly.
We've come to the conclusion that Bob is slightly "special" if
    you know what I mean.

Nancy, Rosie used to do this to me, too, except it was
when I was soaking in the tub, she'd sit behind me, stick
her nose into my hair, then *yank*! I think it had to do
with the mousse (or something) that I used...she always
    	did like pretty smells...

RE: paul Mitchell....is tha good or bad????? (good in the sense
that it's not animal tested, but bad because you don't know the
    effects?)

That's GOOD!! I mean how much relevance does it have to my
scalp to have hair products force fed to animals!!

Besides, PM uses totally natural ingredients which are highly
    unlikely to harm you.

Also, if you read the label you'll see that it says "Tested
on hairdressers, NOT on animals." so it IS tested.

Well, it wasn't PM, I think it usually happened after
I had had my hair colored....it smelled very floral-y...

3347.8Willy does the same thing...AIMHI::SJOHNSONMon Feb 19 1990 19:2712
My Willy does the same thing to my head in the morning when he wants me
to get up and feed him. He does this till I either cover my head w/ my
comforter or get out of bed & feed him. I do use Paul Mitchell
products - ironically enough! As a matter of fact when Willy hears me
brushing my hair he comes from any room in the house to get under the
spray of the Sculpting Spray and of course take off w/ the cap - which
by the way is his favorite toy. He plays w/ those caps for hours
    (literally)!

P.S. What's the catch w/ Paul Mitchell products?

    Sonia (curious)

I just thought that they might like the smell of the PM products,
    that's all.

Well, Bob started doing a little hairdressing routine - minus the
*yank* - on Jack this morning and Jack doesn't use PM, so scratch
    that theory.

Thunder went crazy when I had my perm. She would lay on my pillow and
hold my head with her paws and just *burrow, burrow, burrow*. What
wierd cats we have. Thunder and Lightning love Vicks and Ben-Gay too.

still smells like perm when its wet.

Nancy, there may be something to this Paul Mitchell/perm stuff.
I use PM sculpting lotion and Bailey has been known to groom my
hair for me when I'm sitting on the couch watching tv. But, the
more I think about it...I notice she does it more when my perm
is fresh than after its had a chance to grow out. I'm due for
another perm soon. I'll have to watch her reaction a little more
closely to see if it's the perm that gets her.

I have never known Nippa to play hairdresser....although she is not
a very affectionate cat to begin with....(I use PM as well). I
find she is more interested in licking hand cream off instead....

hmmm. You folks may be on to something here. It's taken me until
this morning to figure out that I, too, use P.M. Awapooee (ugh,
I know that's spelled wrong, sorry Paul). MAYbe that's why Lily
gives me all the doo's - last night she really went to town. It
took me 10 minutes to brush out the knots! She is a piece of work!

Hey Elaine - I could send Bob over. He'd take care of the
    knots for you.
Although you might not be too thrilled with the results.. :-DDDD
3347.17ah, my girl, Lil !!TOPDOC::TRACHMANExotics are Shorthaired PersiansWed Feb 21 1990 12:5916
If he can hold a hair brush, send him! I thought I would need a
jack-hammer this morning to get them out. After she finished last
night, she literally wrapped herself around my head, and very
comfortably dozed off, the little dear! She really must have
had a very hard day! Of course, she know she has to gather
her strenght for the Salem show this weekend. She knows that
she has to sit in her cage and look cute, walk out on her
grooming table, and play with her kitty tease, eat only her
favorite foods both Saturday and Sunday, recline on her pillow
in her cage with her name on it. Yup, she really must rest up
so when the judges look at her, and smile at her and tickle her
under her chin, she will be strong enough to purrrrr for them.

That's a lot of work for a little shorthaired baby girl !!!!!

here's diane with another dumb question:

when the cats lick the hand cream or perfume from our skin--or the hair
preparations from our hair--are they doing it because they like the
taste or because they are trying to remove the scent so our "predators"
won't be able to track us?

i am always curious about relating the behaviour of our domestic babies
to their ancestors in the wild...

Oh, Kate, yes, I will tell her to take an extra nap to prepare
for her aunties' hugs! You know how much she 'hates' attention !

I think Snidley is a lot like his daddy - he does resting real well!
Or shall we say that he is 'laid-back' ???
